Dragonball Kai (FUNimation English) Dub: General Discussion
Re: Dragonball Kai dub?
Luckily, I got to see the clips.
I'm really looking forward to this new dub. May can not come soon enough.
So, what does everyone think of what funi's brought to the table so far?
script-accuracy?
voice direction?
the voices themselves?
dubbed themes?
Just thought I'd ask. It's always nice to see someone else's view on a subject.

Re: Dragonball Kai dub?
This might possibly be the first Dragon Ball related product I buy that isn't the manga or a game. That's partly because of what Funi's done with Kai, but also partly because of what Toei did with Z to make Kai in the first place.

Re: Dragonball Kai dub?
Having calmed down a little about it, it's my opinion that I really haven't heard enough of the dub to make any real judgement about it, but from what I have heard, I'm satisfied that Funimation has finally pushed the standard of their DBZ dub to where their usual dubs are. That is to say, it doesn't seem like one of those dubs you'll remember for years to come for its excellency, nor does it rival the Japanese track, but it will do in a pinch. It's listenable, which is itself a huge accomplishment. Between this and their Dragon Box releases, Funimation is definitely taking strides in their treatment of Dragon Ball-related anime.
My opinions of Kai as a whole are still what they are, though, so I won't be rushing out to buy the Blu-Rays anytime soon.

Darn...did anyone save the clips? Until the guy uploads them elsewhere or someone else uploads them, I'm stuck really really wanting to see them!
I think I'll be buying assorted Dragon Ball things for the rest of my life.

That seems to be all of them that I can find, changing it to six brings up nothing.

Re: Dragonball Kai dub?
Did they clean up bardock's face in kai or did nicktoons erase the blood, we know there broadcast will be edited. Either way Bardock sounds great.

Bardock sounded decent, but I'm a bigger fan of the narrator.

Must have been Nicktoons that did that.TheMajinRedComet wrote:Did they clean up bardock's face in kai or did nicktoons erase the blood, we know there broadcast will be edited. Either way Bardock sounds great.
Re: Dragonball Kai dub?
I rather hope that's a preliminary edit on the beer, even the old Saban dub did a better paint edit. That milk they did looks so... strange.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
Also, GRAAAAGGGHHHH. Those are region locked as well. Who the hell own the distribution rights for DBZ in the UK anyway, and why can't Funi just buy them out?

Re: Dragonball Kai dub?
So we're getting confirmed Saban-era level edits on Kai if they can't even show blood, a show that's edited to begin with. Toei and Nicktoons can get fucked.
Re: Dragonball Kai dub?
On a funny note, in clip 4, Nicktoons confused Raditz for Vegeta in the description.
Overdramatic, much? It's not like we can see their parachutes or anything.Undercooked Sausage wrote:So we're getting confirmed Saban-era level edits on Kai if they can't even show blood, a show that's edited to begin with. Toei and Nicktoons can get fucked.

We don't know that we won't be getting any blood; I assume we'll get it toned-down, DisneyXD-Naruto style.Undercooked Sausage wrote:So we're getting confirmed Saban-era level edits on Kai if they can't even show blood, a show that's edited to begin with. Toei and Nicktoons can get fucked.

Re: Dragonball Kai dub?
I'm not really raging since I only get 3 channels on my tv and I already have the first blu-ray reserved. Just seems retarded to go backwards in terms of content editing.
I'm pretty liberal with telling people to get fucked.

Re: Dragonball Kai dub?
All they're doing is editing blood. They still show Farmer w/ Shotgun getting hit by the bullet in clip 4.
