But you see, even Adult Swim edits anime. I remember in Cowboy Bebop they edited the scene in Episode 13 where it shows Gren nude in the shower.

Anime in America is usually edited to some degree. It's just how it goes.
That's because even AS has standards that they can and can't do. When Bebop was on, the rule was they had to keep things TV14. Remember hearing one big shot ws a fan of Elfen Lied and wanted to put that on, but they didn't because they would've had to hack it to bits.

Well this is...unfortunate, but not even for Kai, I was gonna get the uncut Blu-Rays in the first place. I for one was really hoping (and it may still happen) that "Dragonball Kai" would get HUGE ratings, and then FUNimation could use that as a way to say to Nick Toons, "Well ya know...we've got this thing called 'One Piece'..."

Okay, so I really want "One Piece" to become the huge phenomenon that it is elsewhere. In order to do that, it needs to get on TV, though. I thought Dragonball Kai might be the key to getting "One Piece" back on TV. It may still do that, for that matter, but I was hoping that "Dragonball Kai" would be tastefully--and minimally--edited like "One Piece" was. Chances are now, I guess, that if "One Piece" ever sees the light of day on Nick Toons, it will be just as badly censored.

Getting ahead of myself, I know...but DAMN I want "One Piece" back on TV!
A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

And speaking of that fight, what about Pic's arm? Will it make a difference that he can grow it back, or are we really gonna get some crazy shit here?

Either they will redraw his arm for the remainder of the fight, or they will have Piccolo exclaim "Just you wait 'till it grows back!!"

I'd love to see the former however, because I'd prefer censorship that makes me laugh to censorship that makes me wince...

Exactly, and their current standards would have nothing to censor. Even CN did DBZ Uncut for a bit, with all the blood and nudity. The only thing it didn't have was language, and doesn't have said nudity anymore. So, AS could do it uncut easily.

Or they just have Piccolo downplay it like he already does.

Even if they threw in a "Just you wait until it grows back", it wouldn't be a big deal AT ALL because unlike Tenshinhan, Piccolo actually CAN grow the arm back.

I hope they draw an arm on Tenshinhan after Nappa rips it off!

I also want a body drawn of Frieza when he gets cut in half, and I want to see Vegeta die while looking perfectly okay. Frieza had better not blast him through the chest; I want them to paint over the hole in his chest armor. They could also have Frieza point his finger at Vegeta and have him declare "You can't pay the cash, then you're out with the trash" and then I want them to animate Frieza taking Vegeta away to his dungeon.

If you're referring to DBZ Uncut, I watched it when they aired it. The language was kept in, from ReaCoom saying "pissed", Vegeta saying "Dammit" and Krillin saying "Bastard."

I think Tom Dubois of "The Boondocks" said it best for me when FUNimation announced the release of the domestic Dragonbox, after buying all of the Season Sets: "MOTHERFUCK!!! SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT, PRICKS, SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIIIIIIIT!"

These edits don't affect me.

I don't have TV, and I wouldn't watch it anyway if I have the real version on DVD.

It's sad though, because with all these edits and the huge amount of people who don't have the channel, Nicktoons is essentially going to get this show canceled.

I mean how bad is it when not even Dragon Ball die-hards want to watch it?

There's fans who aren't interested in Kai itself, let alone the Nicktoons edit of Funi's dub of Kai, so it's a not a big surprise that not everyone is digging it.

I'm almost disgusting that they censored it SO badly that they took away Bardock's scar. Thank goodness he's not in the show anymore after that.

How are they going to handle Yamcha's face and Tien's chest?

Its going to amaze me how a show based almost soley on fighting will have no blood or bruises apparently.

@Amigo: who IS digging it now? After seeing what they did to Bardock in the first scene of the series, I'm literally ashamed of them for that.

Gah, none of the clips want to load for me on the site. Would anyone be kind enough to rip and upload these up to YouTube? :P

Meh. It's the TV version. No biggie. I plan on buying the home release, anyway.

Thank God we get a home release as its coming out. At four episodes a week in the US and one a week in Japan, will we catch up to Japan before theend of the series?

I was a bit disappointed that DBZKai wasn't coming to the UK but now I'm not really that bothered. The censorship is quite bad, I'll just get the DVD's.

Yeah its a kids station on TV, not that huge of a surprise that they are editing out things like blood and alchohol references. At least their not saying "NEXT DEMENSION" over and over.

Oh and yeah that preview clip aint working for me either. Would anyone be an awesome person and upload it to youtube? :D

While I can't really be bothered to care how Nicktoons presents it (my own personal view on it, not saying everyone is as fortunate) because I'll be enjoying my Blu-ray release of it, I am only concerned with one teeny thing. Apparently Bulma's line was changed...and it doesn't seem to be for the purpose of censoring, but just rather...a meaningless change. This worries me for the Blu-ray release because if they didn't change that line for the sake of censoring, why did they change it? And does that mean that it's in the home release? Just a tiny little thing like that bothers me. Other than that, Roshi can enjoy his glass of milk, Bardock can go ahead and thank the sophisticated Saiyan surgeons for removing his scar, everyone who gets "defeated" can safely travel to the Home For Infinite Losers, and for their final battle, Goku and Freeza can hold hands and sing Christmas carols, I don't care. Just don't go screwing around with the home release with meaningless altered dialog or I shall bring hell on you!

Anyway, with that out of the way... I like the returning cast. Really shows you how far they came if you go back and watch "Season 3"...or oh hell, just go watch the Ultimate Uncut and see how far they came from there. I thought that the performances in the Ultimate Uncut episodes were horrible. They spoke too fast and with so much lack of emotion, that it was clear by that point that everyone was thinking, "damn it, still more of this?" But somewhat of a bravo for their Kai performances, so far based on the tiny clips of course. One thing is...although I may not have always been a fan of Tiffany Vollmer or Stephanie Nadolny's performances, there is a little bit of a sadness that they're gone. And that sadness is simply out of nostalgia purposes. I mean... I have the entire series sitting at home on DVD where from the first episode of Dragon Ball, to the last episode of GT, I get to hear Stephanie Nadolny and Tiffany Vollmer. It's just a little sad that they're no longer involved. And I have to say, the girl taking over for Bulma is no better or worse than Vollmer, I think she sounds and carries the role pretty much the same. As for Nadolny's replacement...4 year old boy? Sounds like a 13 year old, but okay. I don't know, I'm just not feeling it. If they switched her up for a cute sounding voice (like Seffron Henderson who made Gohan sound freaking adorable), that's fine. But...eh. Maybe it's just my old dub fan coming out, but it sounds off to me. It's just going to be weird watching the first episodes of Z YET AGAIN. I watched them with Ultimate Uncut in 05, I watched them with the "Season Sets" in 07, I just saw them yet again with the Dragon Box, let's not mention that I go back and look at the old Saban dub every once in a while (nostalgia okay?), but yet again here I go watching these first episodes again. I mean I love the series, but how many times can I watch the same thing before I say, "okay okay I get it, guy shows up from space, shocking, fight, fight, oh Krillin lets him go"?

Just my two cents.

I can't honestly say I was surprised by the censoring and I would call them "Saban era" edits, but it's not like any of us were actually going to watch it on T.V. We're just holding out for the DVD release which will be uncut, unlike the "Saban era".
