You can always get the stuff before Freeza features prominently.

Damn you all. I like Linda Young as Freeza. Seeing how the script is handled with that character is the thing I'm most looking forward to in this dub.

I like Linda Young too. I've always thought that even in the Japanese version, Freeza had a...homosexual lisp/tone to his voice. The lipstick doesn't help. I'm pretty sure that's why they had a woman voice Freeza. But I saw someone say that they won't be getting the Blu-ray because Linda Young is doing Freeza? That's funny. Just like the Dragon Ball Z DVDs, if you don't like the dub, you can always switch it to the Japanese version. I'm pretty sure that getting the home release is going to be a big money saver than getting the Japanese one (especially in terms of shipping/handling, and how much more easily they are to obtain here than there). But maybe that's just me, but a home release would give more options. Subtitles, etc. But your call.

I just hope they don't do any dialog changes. We've had enough of that in the past. I came across someone saying that Bulma's line is different than the original when she goes to the Kame House, and it wasn't for the sake of censoring. This seems bad, very very bad.

The dialogue change was only for the TV version. On the DVDs and BDs, the dialogue is fine.

And some people don't like Kai, and their only reason for getting it is because of the finally decent English dub. I'm going to give Freeza a chance and see if Freeza's actually going to be Freeza this time. I just might be able to ignore the voice if the script and delivery is good enough.

I say it's too soon to judge Freeza's voice. I mean, we only get a bit of a laugh, that's it.

It's got absolutely nothing to do with the Japanese version. Kai is pretty fucking awful overall. The Japanese voice acting is mostly emotionless, and just feels rushed when compared to the original series. Even if the pacing the better, as a show Z is just better, so if I want to watch the superior anime, I'll hit up my Dragon Boxes. I was planning to buy Kai for the dub. I wanted a dub I could be satisfied with and watch on occasion to spice things up (Dragon Ball wise). But with the inclusion of Young, I'll be passing.

That's the point of the Kai dub, re-writes, and correcting the wrongs of the Z dub, making it more true to the original.

Though she does great in other roles, I don't particularly like Linda Young as Freeza, either. But I'm willing to deal with it if at least the script and direction is top-notch. Which, for the moment, it seems to be.

It's one voice, and you haven't even heard speaking, just a laugh. That's premature judging of a product, for sure.

And as for the re-write, I think he means the Nicktoons edited dub has some changes to the original, uncut dub that aren't because of the need to censorship. It was stated that Nicktoons Kai and uncut Kai have different audio tracks, iirc.

So... Nicktoons must be paying good money, because what FUNi is doing is to make two completely different dubs 0.o Meaning they'll be dubbing over two hundred episodes...

But if Nicktoons has a different dialog, it's still done under FUNimation's gaze. Like Nicktoons can't say, "I want to rewrite this line. Go call in Sean Schemmel" you know? I'm afraid that a POINTLESS (not for the sake of censoring) line change is made, that it's in the home release as well.

What's weird is that Sonny Strait's Krillin has always pronounced Tien as Tee-En.
I think he meant as opposed to Tenshinhan.
Actually both, I never watched the dub, so I'm not used to it

You do realize that is a Nicktoons broadcast edit don't you? The uncut DVD version has the line properly translated.
Um, what? The original line is of a nondescript squabble, the Saban and Nicktoon line is, basically, "He went out with another girl!" and the uncut Kai dub is, basically, "He can date as many other girls as he wants." So what exactly is who editing? Maybe I'm just really tired at 3 in the morning, but it seems like you're misinterpreting his complaint. I understood it to read that he was annoyed at Kai in general for bastardizing Yamucha's character, rather than a slight line tweaking of that same bastardization.

The uncut line is along the lines of,

"Yamcha, that idiot!! He could be out with every girl in the city for all I care, I'm done with him!!"

^^Doesn't really suggest cheating.

We've already had clips of the uncut dialog, and I believe Chris Sabat said there are two different audio tracks. Clearly, these wrong changes don't reflect in the uncut version.

And jeez, some people will judge one laugh as a reason not to get a product? At least give it a shot. That one laugh will end up being all you get in the first box, If I recall the episode count right.

I don't know. That heavily implies to me that he has done (or is suspected of doing) exactly what she's saying. I doubt someone would just pull that out of their ass.

I dunno, it seems to be implying exactly what it says - he can go out with any girl he wants, because she's through with him. Which means, well...she's through with him and he can gout with whoever he wants now.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Forgive me if I am jumping to conclusions, but I've heard Linda Young's Freeza for over a decade. I've heard potential in quite a few of FUNimation's voice actors (especially Schemmel), but Young's voice in the only one I truly despised, as it's so off the mark, it couldn't be worse if they tried. Combine this with the fact that Freeza is my favourite villain, and you have an instant dub-killer for me.
