"Re-animation"
If there was ever a decision to "update" the Dragonball series to a higher level of animation (such as that seen in the Sagas and Budokai 3 openers), would you support it? I think it could be done mostly with the old voice samples and maybe some minimal additional recording. I know it's not a common thing at all to "remake" anime and there's virtually no chance of such a thing happening, but for such a popular series that has started to show some of its age...
I think I would fully support any such effort.
Speaking of this, does anyone know if there is any history of any other anime series being "remade" or "updated" with more modern animation and design? Is there any precedent for it?

Remakes have been done before, like the new Astro Boy series and Black Jack series. However, these are usually also retellings of the stories, and I doubt it would work well with a series like Dragon Ball.
You could take a look at the 10th Anniversary Special of DB
A retelling of the begin of Dragon Ball.

I don't think such thing would be neccessary... However, I would definitely welcome a few movies retelling the whole story of DBZ with some minor tweaks to the story, nit unlike the 10th Anniversary Movie. Can you say "Ultimate DBZ"?
I would see them done in the format similar to the Budokai 1 Story Mode cut-scenes, only animated in traditional way. Although not amazing graphically, they gave us an opportunity to see how would certain scenes look if not burdened with filler scenes. And IMO the effect was superb! The action was much more dynamic, with pace the actual anime could never hope to achieve. Just look at the scene when Gohan attacks Raditz, or when Vegeta kills Zarbon! It has so much more "oomph" to it! So, if these movies were equally true to the pacing of manga, then yes, I would welcome them with open arms.

Why does it have to be remade just because it's "starting to show its age"?

New animation would be cool, though I'd love to see something Cel Shaded. Doing a series of Cel Shaded movies to cover DB/Z would be sweet.
And Domon, those don't really count. Sagas was drawn by Triangle Crap guy and just colored pretty. B3's people are waaaaaaay too thin (perhaps they went on slim fast?) and B2, while good, isn't much better.

<Xyex> Original Freeza never sounded like a chick to me.
<Kaboom> Neither does Rita
<Xyex> Good point.

I can't stand the "new" Goku either. It's as if his character has been completely re-designed to look more bad-ass or something. And what's with all the bulging muscles? If that's what the new character designs look like relaxed, then I'd hate to see them in USSJ form.Porco Rosso wrote:I hope not. 'New' Goku looks terrible.

Plus, I've been getting more and more into older animation lately, and I've really come to appreciate it. I know it sounds wierd, but I think newer animation is too clean, and just looks very manufactured. I prefer the animation from the 70's and 80's, it had a very distinct style. I also prefer the softer palette used in older animation. Today's animation is a little too "hard" looking, since it's usually perfected on computers.

That particular shot is one of the 'middle' shots. As in it's not the worst level of animation in the opening, and it's not the best either. I'm downloading the animation now and I'll take a few of my own screecaps. See if that Nappa and Vegeta shot in the gallery is the worst if there's another one that looks worse...

If they managed to use a DB/Z style and just clean up a little I wouldn't object to a remake, but why not spin it from another characters point of view. Like Gohan's when Radditz abducts him, or Piccolo during Gohan's training. As I somehow doubt the old episodes remastered would sell aswell as new episodes even with how poorly GT was done. (No intensional GT bashing here)
