Did Vegeta become a Super Saiyan in the 'future' timeline?

Yes. He's shown as one when Trunks has a flashback of the Z-Senshi being killed and at the beginning of the Trunks Special.

Mmm...I never knew this. I always thought thought that it was not just Son Goku's beating him but also the threat of the Androids that motivated him to achieve Super Saiyan.

So, if what Mike D said is correct, Vegeta did become a Super Saiyan according to the Trunks Special.

Now, I know a lot of people are thinking; "But Mike (D), if he was a Super Saiyan then why did he get killed by weaker androids in the future when he was somewhat even with a stronger android (#18) in the present?"

Well, the answer is simple. In the future Vegeta didn't have 3 years of training.

The History of Trunks is 90% filler, though. I don't believe an SSj Future Vegeta was mentioned in the manga.

Yes, that goes along with the idea of tapping into Super Saiyan power giving a power increase depending on base power, not a set power boost.

Well, the Trunks Special is not like the movies in that it's a "What if" scenario. It goes along with the anime as anime "canon," if you will. It only takes place in the special, so whether or not he achieves it in the manga is up to the reader.

It wasn't(if I'm remembering right), but that doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Wasn't there a line in the manga where Bulma was trying to convince Trunks not to fight the androids by telling him that his father was a Super Saiyan too? Or was she talking about Gohan?

Bulma doesn't even mention the word "Super Saiyan" in that scene (at least in the VIZ version), but she did talk about Gohan.
