I found a mistake in the book. In the Profile of Goku Family, it lists Oolong's first appearance as episode 3. Now, unless I'm just really missing something, I'm positive Oolong makes his Z-era debut in episode 18. Even if they screwed up and went with original first appearance, Oolong doesn't show up until episode 4 of DB.

Hmm...you're right! Good catch. No sign of Oolong in episode 3. Of course, you can say Oolong has been appearing since episode 1, if you want to include the opening sequence.

Haha, yeah, but then nearly EVERY character would have an "episode 1" listing, wouldn't they?

And also, I wouldn't list this as much of a mistake as an "alternate character interpretation," but Vegeta is "cool-headed"?! Am I watching the same show as the Dragonbook?! and another  for good measure.

Except for desperate times like when Vegeta needed to transform or when his Dragonball was stolen by Gohan, Vegeta usually is pretty cool under pressure and tries to act cool a lot of the time.

I'd say he's more defined by his ego-induced bits of rage or whining, like letting Cell become perfect to get his jollies, crying because Freeza has shredded his ego (which I just watched today on DBox... wheeeeee!), and any of the manic, "How can this be happening? I'm the best in the universe!" rants. But, yeah, you're definitely right that he can be a master strategist when he wants to be. He stole the show during the early Freeza arc.

Mine is the same. The Garlic Jr. episode selection menu has an image of Commander Ginyu and Jheese on Namek. ^^;
Haha I just realized that right now too. Haven't been able to go on the computer for a while. Funny because I was also going to mention the Oolong appearance being incorrect also, but somebody beat me to it as usual.

No, no. You clearly missed it. Oolong was in episode 3, but he was transformed into a palm-tree on Kame Sennin's island.

It's been interesting watching this set. I own a lot of Dragon Ball Z from the original "singles" DVD releases, but there are a lot of holes in my collection, and those episodes I've only seen edited in English on Cartoon Network.

After seeing these episodes in Japanese for the first time via the Dragon Box, I switch over to the English track to see if there was anything "interesting" on the uncut track. Nothing really special, other than Vegeta believing he's in Hell after coming back to life, and Garlic Jr. mentioning the "hell" he was once trapped in.

It seems like Chris Sabat has redubbed all of Vegeta's lines through the start of the Garlic Jr. arc. Sonny Strait redubbed Kuririn only through his death at Freeza's hand. I believe John Burgmeier redubbed some of his episodes as Tenshinhan. Not sure, but I think Chris Sabat went back and recorded his voice as Mr. Popo as well. Now I'm starting to think they went and changed Maron's voice as well. She sounds much less like an air-head now, which is unfortunate. Also, "Spice" of the "Spice Boys" was redubbed by J. Michael Tatum. That's random.

I've also been reminded of some of the worst dialog we've ever gotten out of the FUNimation dub.

First is the episode where Namekians wish themselves off of Earth. The new Grand Elder, in the dub, says it's fine if they wait another 130 days, because he might be able to improve his putt. That's not stupid in and of itself, since he's shown golfing, but then Gohan has to chime in and start giving him golf tips. "It's all in the wrist!! And the follow-through!!" Ugggghgg...Gohan is FIVE YEARS OLD. HE HAS NEVER PLAYED GOLF. WHY WOULD HE SAY THAT?!?!

The second gem of a "line" comes when Gohan and Haiya Dragon are attacked by demonic animals after the release of the Aquamist.

"Oh Man. Whoa. What's up? They're freaking! Gosh! How weird! Man!"

:x

Seriously, can you fit any more interjections into one line of dialog? That was ONE fast line of dialog, read off the paper as if there was no punctuation, and the whole thing runs unto itself. In Japanese, Gohan says, "They're usually such gentle animals! What's going on?" It's one thing not to translate what's said, and it's something else entirely to rewrite a line into something completely different. But what Gohan says there isn't even a line. He's blabbering out every non-offensive exclamation one can think of without muttering an obscenity. That's partly what makes it so corny and ironic; it's like an exhibition of all the "pseudo-swear words" FUNi used in the uncut dub, since at the time they weren't actually swearing. Now, if Gohan had instead said, "HOLY SHIT, those animals be buggin', yo," then it wouldn't be as corny or "light", and it would fit right in with FUNi's original plan to make the dub "hip" with its target gangsta/valley girl audience.

Leah Clarke took over Maron with the 'redub'.

Do you think it's a matter of them not being able to use the same recordings of voice actors who are no longer doing business with FUNimation? There was nothing wrong with Maron's original voice or performance, and redubbing only "Spice", when his performance was no worse (or better) than the other Four Monarchs, is just weird.

No, because Maron is not re-dubbed during an episode of her Android-arc appearance.

Ooh, I found another tiny nitpick. The image used for episode 86 is actually from episode 85.

Also, can anyone with the original Dragon Box find out if the Oolong premiering in episode 3 thing an original mistake by FUNimation or a carry over of a mistake from the originals?

Interesting, I didn't even remember her having another appearance.

Yeah, it was when Roshi explained the back-story of the Red Ribbon army to her. When she first appears it's her new voice, but during the episode she leaves again, it is her old actress again...

Why am I the only person who hasn't got a dragon box. I need money.
Oh, you think the Grand Tour is your ally, you merely stepped into the Grand Tour. I was born in it, moulded by it. I didn’t see the Super until I was already a man; by then, it was nothing to me but blinding!

Anyone with common sense can figure that out...

Just saying.

Just received mine right when I got home. It looks so much cleaner, and crisp this time around. I'm in love with this set of releases. :3

I think Tom Dubois of "The Boondocks" said it best for me when FUNimation announced the release of the domestic Dragonbox, after buying all of the Season Sets: "MOTHERFUCK!!! SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT, PRICKS, SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIIIIIIIT!"
