Schemmel: "The Ocean Group is doing their own dub"
Re: Schemmel: "The Ocean Group is doing their own dub"
They did dub that one Powerpuff Girls anime in a similar fashion, and that hasn't been seen in the US... so I doubt it's that unlikely. Doesn't AB Groupe still have rights anyway in other English-speaking countries?
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
I really don't care about this.
... At all.
I doubt they'll release any DVD's of this.

Re: Schemmel: "The Ocean Group is doing their own dub"
Well, I see a quite a bit of love for Ocean's dub actors around here... And besides, I have to keep guessing so that when the news comes, I can say I wasn't wrong!Kendamu wrote:Because altered music is what everyone in this community would look forward to, right?Metalwario64 wrote:So is this why Schemmel mentioned "bad Canadian music"?
I really hope that an edited, altered version with Ocean's actors, changed sound effects and music isn't the "big news"...

Re: Schemmel: "The Ocean Group is doing their own dub"
This news is so mind boggling. And I'm torn between being exited and disappointed, because on one hand, we might be getting some familiar voices back, but on the other hand, replaced music? I wonder who made that decision. Is it Westwood Media again? Man, this is interesting. Please let this come out on DVD.

I...take this with a grain of salt until it's announced elsewhere.

*slow blink*
I am interested in this. Very much so.
Does anybody know who stuck around from the Ocean cast through the whole run in Eurpoe and so? I know Scott was there the whole time, but what about people like Brian and Ted Cole?
If this came out on dvd with a good script I'd be pouncing on this bitch. I'd wade through anything to get to watch the series accurately with Scott as Pic.

In this case, it's probably going to end up being "Over 9000!" because it'll more than likely be the same guy.
Re: Schemmel: "The Ocean Group is doing their own dub"
I don't understand the point of an Ocean dub for DB in the year 2010, and I don't understand the point of replaced music in the year 2010.

Is this where we make snarky comments about how he's pretty much saying "it will suck because it's going to be like our old dub, just a lot better, and that dub was so horrible simply making it "a lot better" isn't enough"? Mr. Schemmel really shouldn't talk too loudly about lack of quality of other companies' Dragonball dubs.Seán Schemmel Here is why the Ocean group dub will suck.

Re: Schemmel: "The Ocean Group is doing their own dub"
It likely won't come out on DVD, and the music and sound effects are likely being replaced for monetary issues. If this is really happening I have no doubt Scott McNeil and Brian Drummond will return. McNeil will probably voice a thousand of the characters, too. >_______>
But to answer Velasa's question, yeah Cole McNeil, Drummond, Klassen, and a few others did return for the Westwood dub of 123-291 (they were terrible there, but that is neither here nor there).

Re: Schemmel: "The Ocean Group is doing their own dub"
Wait... There's going to be an Ocean dub of Kai for the English speaking territories that Funi doesn't own the distribution rights for?
Re: Schemmel: "The Ocean Group is doing their own dub"
Brian Drummond gets to redo his "WRATH"?

In his defense, you've left out everything he's said.Adamant wrote:Is this where we make snarky comments about how he's pretty much saying "it will suck because it's going to be like our old dub, just a lot better, and that dub was so horrible simply making it "a lot better" isn't enough"? He said it would suck because of crappy replacement music and unnecessary sound effects, as well as that the FUNimation version will be incredibly close script-wise to the original.
And I'm going to agree with him on that.
I can't believe some DaizEX members are going to applaud the Ocean group's mangling of the show with replacement music and stupid corny puns, but then bash FUNimation at the drop of a hat even though their Kai dub is going to be miles more faithful.

Re: Schemmel: "The Ocean Group is doing their own dub"
I just wonder what happened to the guy who directed the first three DBZ movie dubs by Pioneer/Ocean? The voice direction and adaption was damn perfect. Anyone who disagrees with this is just talking bias.
Re: Schemmel: "The Ocean Group is doing their own dub"
Karl Willems. Those movies had some good acting...and some not good acting. Scott McNeil's Oolong in Movie #3 for example.NeoKING wrote:I just wonder what happened to the guy who directed the first three DBZ movie dubs by Pioneer/Ocean?
