UK / Ocean Group DBZ Dub

Post by VegettoEX » Tue Apr 05, 2005 9:47 pm

Does someone know when-about the UK / Ocean Group DBZ dub began? I actually would like to know when the Trunks arc was airing, but a general idea of what time of what year any of it began would be a help... thanks.

I quite sure it started in the Fall of 2000. However, to be much more certain, I didn't see many posts about the Ocean Group returning to DBZ until I think just before Spring 2001. I don't have any exact information, but I think it's within that time frame.

Ya it was around mid-spring 2001 that the episodes with the Ocean cast started to air on YTV.

Actually, YTV started the Ocean Group version right when Gohan was facing off against Cell, and that started in September 2002.

Didnt they alternate dubs throughout the Trunks-Cell arc?

The Ocean Dub started with episode 108, Goku's Special Technique.
I once read that it was first aired over here in The Netherlands on Cartoon Network. :o

I have the episode on VHS, and I should be able to see when it was taped if I insert the VHS.
I think that it was in 2000 or 2001, but I'm not 100% sure
I'll check as soon as possible.

But is it a UK dub? Last time I heard their stuff the actors didn't sound particularly.... british.

I thought it was called the UK/Holland dub because it was broadcast first in these lands....

The series was dubbed by Ocean (Canada). The movies was released by Bridge (a dutch company, but no idea where they did dub the movies).

http://web.archive.org/web/200302031522 ... ndex.shtml This site maybe dead, but the people who ran it were pretty in touch with the Ocean Actors, compiled Cast list which I heard was a tough thing to do. There are even a few VA interviews.

Also Westwood is the company who produced the Ocean Dragon Ball Z dub, they are based in Vancouver.

Ok, I checked, episode 108 first aired on January 23, 2001.

The Androids Saga started on April 16 of 2001, but I'm not sure if we got those before the UK. :?

The website that dagame10k posted was the greatest UK DBZ website.
A shame that it went offline. :(
By the way, that site says that it aired in February here, but that must have been a mistake, because I'm sure now that it was January 23rd.

Oh ya, for some reason I always confuse that. That was when they stopped airing new episodes right towards the end of the Cell Games. Poor kids, what a place to stop it!

How nice. The episode in question I'm referrencing happens to be that very episode (where Goku uses the Shunkan-idou for the first time), so that's a great starting point for me to know :D. Thanks.

September 2001, actually. I know because it was a week before 9/11.

Ocean episode 168 (the first Ocean episode shown in Canada) premiered on YTV on Monday, September 3, 2001.

The dub first aired in Holland around January 2001 I believe, and then the United Kingdom got it soon after, but unlike Canada they got it right from episode 108 onward.

Unfortunately, Ocean episodes 108-167 have never been aired in Canada, so Canadians like myself have always had very little access to them, what we've seen of them is whatever clips were put online at UKDB and Ocean-DB between 2001 and 2003.

I have always found it odd that the Super Saiyan 2 Gohan transformation aired on 9/11...

I never noticed that, but it's true.

Episode 168 aired on Monday, September 3, 2001. However, for the rest of that week YTV aired reruns.

The following week, on Monday, September 10, 2001 episode 168 re-aired, and then 169 (Gohan SSJ2) aired the next day....9/11.

Oh, by the way, can you confirm that YTV never aired FUNi episodes 168-179? I have a friend who has some crazy idea that they did but then aired the Ocean versions of those episodes after that. I know it never happened that way, but this guy is pretty insisting.

That's right, my mistake.

September 2002 was when the last arc started.
