The "Miiightyyy Napppaaaaa!" sounds quite ridiculous as well.

To be fair, Nappa was screaming his lines in the original version as well.Metalwario64 wrote:Maybe the 8,000 responding and the charging at Goku, but he isn't supposed to be screaming when asking for Goku's power level reading...ohaimynameiserik wrote:Well because out of his 3 or 4 lines from that clip, he's supposed to be screaming?Metalwario64 wrote:It sounds pretty good, but why the fuck is Nappa screaming every single line?!

The reason he was so loud about is because Goku WAS making quite the scene...
Edit: Wow, looking at the Japanese version of Kai... he ain't yellin' at all! That's odd.

Somebody is nitpicking on an extreme level. He's not supposed to use his inside voice at that part.. I'd rather he be yelling than boring. I just watched the Japanese version to see if the Japanese actor for Kai is yelling there, and while he isn't screaming, he definitely is raising his voice and sounds worried.Metalwario64 wrote: Maybe the 8,000 responding and the charging at Goku, but he isn't supposed to be screaming when asking for Goku's power level reading...

Yes, let us not forget that there is a context to all this screaming. I'm going to reserve full judgment for my own viewing. So far it's not looking as good as it was hyped up to be. Still pretty good, but not the best it could be.KaiserNeko wrote:To be fair, Nappa was screaming his lines in the original version as well.

Not... really, I just think it sounds quite over-the-top... When did I ever say he should use his "inside-voice"? I'm just stating that his screaming sounds a bit ridiculous, and it sounds a bit annoying... I'm simply criticizing it, not "nit-picking" or over-reacting. I saw a flawed performance, and stated such.ohaimynameiserik wrote:Somebody is nitpicking on an extreme level.

Or you watched a small clip of a scene and complained that the voice actor was yelling for a certain line, even though the context calls for it.Metalwario64 wrote:Not... really, I just think it sounds quite over-the-top... Nit to the pick.
Re: Dragonball Kai Dub
I think you're picking up on the bad acting/voice combination as opposed to merely screaming. At least that's what I was picking up on.

Re: Dragonball Kai Dub
Okay, so I am not allowed to criticize a performance I think is lacking? People have been criticizing Vegeta and Goku's delivery in this very same thread (and another one), so why are you jumping on me about doing the freaking same thing for? If we are not allowed to form conclusions on these lines and performances, then I supposed by that logic that you cannot disprove my point, because there wasn't enough to judge whether or not those lines were delivered well either.ohaimynameiserik wrote:Or you watched a small clip of a scene and complained that the voice actor was yelling for a certain line, even though the context calls for it.Metalwario64 wrote:Not... really, I just think it sounds quite over-the-top... Whatever, criticism be damned...
I don't know. I just think his line delivery sounds awkward and don't think he is supposed to scream the "what's his power level?" line... He didn't scream it so over-the-top in the previous FUNimation dub, and he never screamed it in the Japanese version. It just sounds like he is screaming all of those lines back-to-back, when he should also be adding some frustration and concern into it, as opposed to just trying to be as loud as possible...I think you're picking up on the bad acting/voice combination as opposed to merely screaming. At least that's what I was picking up on.
I am not denying that his voice should be raised, and anyone saying otherwise is putting words into my mouth. I just thought it sounded over-the-top, and stated it as such.

Never said you were or were not allowed to do anything.
Do whatever the hell you want, I'm just saying those are weak criticisms at the time.
And you're right, other people have been complaining about the performances of the other actors, and I would tell them the same thing I told you.
Sorry you were the one I ended up deciding to take action and reply to, I'll try not to pick on you in the future.

Re: Dragonball Kai Dub
Man, Sabat's Vegeta sounds so very different. He actually kind of sounds like Horikawa in that clip, at least in terms of direction and delivery...
Also, I still don't hear the "super hero" in Schemmel's Goku... He just sounds more serious, and Nozawa also sounded a bit deeper and not so "haha I'm happy go lucky innocent lil' Goku!" and whatnot when Goku was serious. You can't expect Goku to sound innocent and happy-go-lucky all the time... Now, if you want to hear generic superhero, listen to Hebert's "Saiyaman" performance (which is intentional).
After re-listening to the clip, I'd say Nappa's lines after the "what's the scouter say about his power level!?" line were okay. I still think that one line sounds strange, and too loud, but I'm not opening that can of worms again!
Man, I just want a few short clips of some fight scenes. I am curious as to how the "battle cries" and whatnot are handled; whether or not they go with the "HYa HYA YAA YARGH!!" of the previous dub, or more "Ha ha dadada tah!!" like the Japanese version...

Makes sense. Though Spirit Bomb doesn't debut until Z. Though that they may have kept because it's a pretty accurate translation, a very well known attack, and an awesome sounding name.Innagadadavida wrote:Dragon Ball had an exeptable dub by todays standards. Most of the changes they made were for continuity with Z. Which makes this continuity move all the more ironic with Kai.
Z Kai is their chance to redo Z, but they have to stay consistent with moves they made to be consistent with the very thing they're trying to redo.
Still loading clip, so I'll post my thoughts on that later.

Re: Dragonball Kai Dub
Since you've already admitted that was sarcasm, that was just rude and uncalled for. There's no reason to mock someone just for being bothered by something that seems minor to you.Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:OMG they're using Tri-Beam!! This dub sucks and I'm not buying the DVDs at all!!!!Puto wrote:Apparently they're keeping Tri-Beam :/
But you're not the only one making those kind of comments. People keep calling each other "nitpicky" or claiming that they're "making a big deal out of nothing." But just because something's not important to you doesn't mean it isn't to someone else. It's all subjective. We're on a forum for discussing every little detail of a goofy old kids' show, after all, so who's to say what's really meaningful or not? I just don't understand the point of comments like that.

Re: Dragonball Kai Dub
As Innagadadavida suggested in the DVD Discussion thread, they could be using Tri-Beam and so fourth since those attack names appeared in their Dragon Ball dub, thus making it so that if you were to watch Dragon Ball and then Kai, there would be a sense of community kept between the shows. It makes sense to me.
It's a shame that no one else has recieved the DVD on this site or I would have taught someone how to rip their set. A friend of mine should be getting it on Monday so you expect the usual high quality rips of the OP/ED with subtitles sometime next week. You've seen me do it before although this time, the lyrics will actually be correct

Re: Dragonball Kai Dub
So, watched the clip. Nappa's yelling doesn't bother me. It seems to fit, the way I see it. He's overly excited because of Goku's sudden arrival. Vegeta definitely sounds a lot different than before. Can't want to see some longer/better quality clips with him talking.

Re: Dragonball Kai Dub
From watching the clip, I still don't really care for any of the dub voices.
They all sound very abrasive to me.
Oh well, at least they said 8000 this time.
That bodes well for the rest of the translation.

Destructo Disc sounds suprisingly like something strait out of a cheesy Flash Gordon-esque UFO flick.penguintruth wrote:"Destructo Disc" is almost as bad as "Hyperbolic Time Chamber".
They kept 8000? And yet they can't seem to be able to keep the technique names faithful to the original.
Spirit Bomb is alright I guess, but Destructo Disc?

"Tri-Beam" doesn't make a bit of difference, guys.
Kai doesn't share continuity with GT. No Tsufuru-Jin, no purifying water, etc.If you wanna get technical, Spirit Bomb has to stay consistent with GT![]()
