Nobody has a a Blu-ray drive in their computer and an unboxing video was already posted...?
Not pleased about the changes, although Tenshinhan sounding better is nice.

Overall, this is the best dub we've ever gotten. My biggest complaint would be the narrator's use of "Last time on", or "Find out today!", or "on the next, Dragon Ball Z Kai", which is a carryover from the old days, and has absolutely no place here. They should've used that ONLY in the TV dub if they wanted, but it has no place in the uncut dub on DVD.

You sure this was not int he Japanese version? I swear I have heard the narrator in that version say "Find out today!" or something like that?

Nah, I'm pretty sure Yanami never says any of the generic "Next/This time on..." lines.dragonpiece wrote:G1Ravage wrote:

Well, while I was watching my Dragon Box set there was one or two instances where he would say something like "next time, so and so happens." Of course, that's a bit different, and less along the lines of "NEXT TIME ON DRAGON BAAALLLLL ZEEEEEEEE!!".JulieYBM wrote:Nah, I'm pretty sure Yanami never says any of the generic "Next/This time on..." lines.

I can't wait for tomorrow! I'll be sure to post a video and whatnot. I have the Blu-ray so I'll have to record it off my TV, but it's better than nothing.

Re: Dragon Ball Z Kai Volume 1 Discussion
Call me childish but this is a "wait until it's bargain bin material" factor for me. FUNimation can pull their (poorly supported) "alternate angles were killing the bitrates, that's why our titles looked like shit" line with DVDs, but with Blu-rays...there's absolutely no excuse. Reminds me of how they replaced the stylized Evangelion 1.11 end credit scroll with a plain white-text-on-black-background credit scroll.G1Ravage wrote:There are no alternate angles on this set. Even if you're watching the Japanese version, you're stuck with the English translated credits and titles. This is, for the most part, acceptable, but in those instances where the dub term differs from the Japanese, you'll have an impure title card to sit through. The dub titles also throw in random exclamation marks where there weren't any in the Japanese title.
If I'm paying for better technology, I expect to see it used. HD video, lossless audio and alternate angles so I don't have to read dub terms are hardly 'cutting edge' after nearly 4 years of Blu-ray being around.

I wouldn't call that childish. What I would say is that you have particularly discerning tastes . . . but then, most of us who bothered to upgrade to Blu-ray technology do. Otherwise we wouldn't have to begin with.

I don't get Blu Rays mainly due to my own private TV being SD, and the only HDTV we have is crapping out on us, slowly but surely.
But, the alternate angles thing isn't too picky for me. It didn't bother me lacking the English Title Screens in the Dragon Boxes, and won't bother me lacking the Japanese Title Screens in the Kai sets. The main meat and potatoes is what I care about, so to speak.

Same here, I care about the content for that a few seconds or the titles.
It's not like most of us get into a conversation about like one particular episode and calling it by its name.
Although I do care about the lack of effort in the representation of the case and lack of a book or booklet and the huge space they wasted behind Goku.

Only just noticed, the blu-ray is region A and B. That's good to hear if you're buying from Europe.

Not really. Due to listings, we don't always get correct info on aspect ratios and all of that. We also didn't know that the Japanese Kai Blu-ray was region free until after it came out, also.Freeza Heika wrote:Holy crap! You're right.
