WTF?
Image

Bad news...Sonny Strait mispronounced Kienzan...it sounds more like KiENzen. Yes, that's an 'en' at the end, not an 'an'.

Here, I took some off-TV video to hold you over until the professional rippers get their copies in. You may need to raise your volume.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wuir2-3L6Yo
(I have confirmed that the music playing on the Blu-ray menu is indeed music from Kai. It premieres in episode 12.)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UcoO66T8dU0

I randomly picked an episode to record the preview from, and in this ONE episode preview, Schemmel deviates from his usual greeting. Oh well.

Trying to remember other minor details. Kamehame-Ha is pronounced correctly. If you listen closely, when the characters are grunting or making noises, you'll hear that they've tried to somewhat emulate the Japanese style. They're much more restrained than the previous dubs, which makes this so much easier to listen to. I could also swear I heard one or two instances of Schemmel using a few hickish choice of words for Goku.

Karin sounds a bit better. Yajirobe makes fun of him as he did in the original. The pronunciation of Yajirobe is still not entirely correct.

I spotted a Toei animation error. When Raditz is explaining the Saiyans' history to Goku and the others at the Kame House, you see some Saiyans from above, making a transaction with some aliens. Nappa and Vegeta are down there, and Vegeta is in his old, incorrect color scheme.

Tenshinhan is only called Tien Shinhan once in the first 13 episodes, and that's by Kuririn in episode 1. He's Tien the rest of the way. In another good move, FUNi dropped the old habit of redubbing EVERYTHING during recaps and flashbacks. They're only dubbing what the script called for in the Japanese version.

The creditless opening uses the Japanese logo, which is good. Now that I've mentioned it, however, we'll probably never see it again. The trailers section has a promo for Kai Volume 2, but it's identical to the trailer for Volume 1. No date was given. There's a One Piece promo for Season Two - Seventh Voyage.

Schemmel sounds like his old work as Goku in that episode preview, which is not good. What happened to the Goku I heard in the other clips?

I'm impressed by the way they've handled these next episode previews. Forget the particulars of how the voices sound for just a moment and realize that you're hearing the characters themselves narrating and not Kyle Hebert. That alone is worth taking in. This is how it should have been done since way back when they were first dubbing Z, and I'm glad to see this style being used for Z Kai.

I'm filled with glee.

Maybe I've heard too much of his work, but it sounds less like his old work, and more like those clips to me. A light, more natural tone for the role. It's definitely not too much like his old work, at least, in the gap between the two that does exist. It's distinct enough that I can tell it's not in the same vein as his old voice work.

I think I can live with "Kienzen". The "an" isn't very stressed anyway.

You mean you didn't recognize it right away? That's one of the best tunes in the series and gets used a whole lot more during the Freeza arc.

Great menu, though! I love that they used that song! It makes me excited to watch the show with a menu like that.

This video was a neat look at things, too. The ending theme in English felt a little "meh" but I might change my mind hearing it on my own TV and not from a camera recording a TV.

Schemmel didn't sound any different to me than he has in the other clips.

Watched up to Episode 6 thus far. I don't know why, I KNOW it's wrong for the character when it gets down to it, but King Kai still makes me laugh regardless. The bit with him doing the stock American cellphone ringtone was crackin' me up. Also Brian Massey as Oolong? No complaints. Dunno where Brad went, ah well.

I haven't been following Kai via Internet leakage except for the first few episodes, so I have basically none of the music memorized, outside of the opening and ending themes.

I'm quite happy with the way the English themes turned out. I've had them both stuck in my head since yesterday.

So the Blu-ray is A and B! Damn! Just three days ago I ordered the DVD because I was sure that the Blu-ray will be only A. >_>

Region B! This makes me so happy! It's a shame my friend ordered the DVD though, can't wait to get my copy.

Just recieved my set about two hours ago and watched the first three, now starting with episode 4. I noticed in the beginning of episode 1 durring the theme song that it's called DRAGON BALL KAI, but in the other episodes the logo says DRAGON BALL Z KAI. I dunno if this has been spotted already because I don't feel like reading through five pages.

So far though, love this dub. I have yet to hear a cheesy line like the original Ball/Z/GT dub.

Dragon Soul in English:

Yeah, Break, Care Break in English:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OvhjUGpPeeo

English Lyrics:

Live your life, don't stop until it's done!
Once you live for love then you've already won

When I look up into the infinite sky
I never that that it would come to this
Take my hand and together we'll fly
Let's go, I know, how high!

Soar above the clouds and see such beauty all around
This irreplaceable world needs us now,
We have to join in the fight!

Live your life like a KAME HAME HA!
Give your all; don't ever give up!
When we're together, I know we can win
I have you to believe in

Live your life, don't stop until it's done!
Give your all, don't ever give up
All you need is love and to believe in yourself
It's easier when you believe!

Really hate to say this, but there is some SERIOUS vocal correction going on in Dragon Soul. You know, like vocoder?

Dragon Soul is acceptable, but Yeah Break Care Break is horrible!
That Dragon Soul is quite catchy and I personally don't like Schemmel's Goku acting or even Anime dubbed in english.

See, I'm actually of the opposite opinion. But that's because of the terrible auto-tuning they did to Dragon Soul...
