It wouldn't be so bad if the vocals didn't seem so faint.

Listening to the Japanese version again... that version does seem to have more "oomph" to it. And it's kind of hard to hear what the guy's singing at the very beginning of FUNi's version.

Oh, I found them enjoyable, Dragon Soul moreso, but I do love Jerry Jewell's work too. I just think they could have made the song slightly more clear, somewhat hard to understand at times.

YBCB is a lot better than Dragon Soul and Schemmel's awful voice. But neither are that great. But I don't think much of the Japanese versions, either.

I almost wonder if you say things like that now just because he called you out on it.

I honestly dislike his singing voice. It certainly doesn't have enough power to sell the lyrics, and he's sounding too much like his Goku in the song and it comes off as a lame attempt to have Goku sing the theme song. I wouldn't have put up with that in the Japanese version, either.

Jerry Jewell is no great singer, either, from the sound of it. Excellent VA, though.

I've noticed that when Schemmel is just talking normally that his Goku is just an exaggerated version of his normal voice. That might have something to do with it.

Yeah of the two I preferred Dragon Soul as well. I actually am going to say that it was better than the Japanese version. As for YBCB I like the English version, but I do prefer the Japanese version for that one.

I like both of the dubbed songs, despite their faults.

I'm going to have to state it again, there is blatant auto-tuning on Dragon Soul. You can hear the modulation in his voice, especially on the first "FREE YOUR SOUL!" I'm 100% sure it's there, I can hear it clear as day. It doesn't make him sound better, either, it actually sounds really awkward.

This thread's got me researching auto-tune and now I'm wondering how many songs I listen to are auto-tuned.....

Most studio-based songs have some for of "correction" made to them. Even if it's taking multiple takes of a single song and splicing the best takes together until it becomes a flawless version of the entire song, no professional studio really goes about just throwing stuff on there willy-nilly no matter how talented the person is.

Well that's very true. However, auto-tuning is still bullshit. If they need to retake that part of the song to get it right, have them do that.

Auto-tuning sounds like shit anyway.

Okay, who started the whole "Goku says Kayoken" thing? I just watched that part. It's "Kaiouken" every single time it's said between when he uses it against Nappa (the first time it's said) and when Vegeta kills Nappa.

I was watching that earlier and braced myself for the punch... but it never came.

I was mad for nothing, and now I feel like a douche. =/

It's pronounced correctly THE WHOLE TIME! This new dub is absolutely awesome and I think many people at Daizex who are on the fence about watching it will be really pleased with what's being offered in the home release.

"Tri-Beam" can still suck it, though.

gregorthegame wrote:Well apparently Kayo-ken is used when Goku goes after nappa... then he says KAIO-ken when he's talking to krillin right after.
Probably for the edited version maybe??
It's great to hear that it is correct though. I guess gregorthegame must have misheard it or something.

Well that's a relief. It would have been really sloppy had that problem actually existed. Can we have some notably cool dub clips ripped just as a preview?

Yeah the auto-tuning is blatantly obvious in some parts of Dragon Soul. I don't even see why it's necessary either, his regular voice may have been not pitch perfect, but it would sound more natural like the Japanese counterpart.
