You mean that bit after Gohan slashes the screen. Pretty sure Freeza was in there.
Hm. I'm pretty sure you're right. I'll look for myself later and confirm it.

I totally want to see the scene with Piccolo and Gohan against Nappa. :(

A bit bummed to hear Japanese and English names mixed in together, though not bad from the very few clips shown. I'm psyched.

I don't think it's physically possible to sing like that naturally. Unless someone is repeatedly kicking you in the balls as you're recording and you have a very quick recovery time.

I'm not a great singer by any means, but I can keep up with Dragon Soul in English and sing along just fine without being too off-key. The biggest difference is that I don't have as much vocal range as Shemmel so I have to be on a lower octave to sing it.

In other news, Kuririn's scream in the dub after Piccolo regenerated his arm was priceless!

Ok I'm planning to pick the set up.
I really have no interest in the dub, only the original.

So I wonder if someone who has it early could tell me the general quality of Funi's subtitles.
Any obvious mistakes, annoyances, that sort of thing.

I'm referring to the unnatural-sounding autotune going on. There's no way anyone would sound like that in real life, and I'm pretty sure Sean Schemmel would be able to sing this fine without any tampering--and that's what pisses me off the most. In fact, this is now pissing me off so much that I'm going to find an instrumental version and do my own take on it.

I'm not hearing this "obvious auto-tune" in Dragon Soul that everyone else is. I'm not saying that corrections weren't made, but you make it sound like he turned on the T-Pain Filter or something.

When I'm back at home later I'll go ahead and listen to it a few more times and compare it to the Japanese version. There's no real sense in my continuing to see it from the other side of the fence when I'm not even able to listen to it while I talk about it.

Did anyone notice in episode 1 at the theme song, instead of Dragon Ball Z Kai it just said Dragon Ball Kai as the logo. Also if you check the theme song at episode 12 the theme isn't translated in the subtitles. Maybe it's only on mine but I dunno.

I mean, you're pretty open about looking at cartoon porn. Why would you do that? It's fiction. The proportions of these women are not possible to reach in reality.

Got my set today.

DVD has different menus. Just a static background with music.

I'll be more in depth tonight, but I do want to point out that not once does Schemmel say "Kayo-ken". The occurrence in question where he's flying towards Nappa has him pronouncing Kaioken correctly, he's just saying it fast. I promise.

The dub script and acting are top notch, even if Kaio's voice still doesn't fit.

I give it a solid A. I'd give it an A plus if it weren't for "Tri Beam".

Got home. Listened to Dragon Soul again. When listening closely during the "Love and Glory, Tell a Story" part of the song, I can hear it a bit, but it's not this constant mess of auto-tuning that people make it out to be.

Rarely is anything actually as bad as people make it out to be.

I always try to keep this in mind about anything I'm a fan of. Unfortunately, the rare occurrences of super horrible things are just controversial enough to skew everything else into Black & White categories.

I can hear it clearly. It almost sounds like a Cher song at points.

G1Ravage wrote:There are no alternate angles on this set. Even if you're watching the Japanese version, you're stuck with the English translated credits and titles. This is, for the most part, acceptable, but in those instances where the dub term differs from the Japanese, you'll have an impure title card to sit through. The dub titles also throw in random exclamation marks where there weren't any in the Japanese title.
Ugh! Dealbreaker for me... Why the hell do they suddenly hate alternate angles? Alternate angles are good! That way, everybody wins!!!

Geez, and what a shame about crap like "Tri-beam" getting in there. But other than that, it sounds like the dub has finally gotten somewhat up to snuff. I love that they used "Kami" as a title rather than a name.

Why are people getting the DVDs and Blu-rays now? I thought they came out on the 18th.

RightStuf ships early. It's something we're not too quiet about around here. You can probably still get it fairly early if you order from there now.
