Cipher wrote:I swear to god, this discussion of Goku's English voice actors has to be one of the most blisteringly irritating things I have ever had the displeasure of reading. Seems to me that every time things have almost become fair or reasonable again, penguintruth has to come back with a, "No. Only I understand the character. Never mind that you're as familiar with the property as I am." Not to say that all sides haven't been continuing the conversation to my great chagrin.

No one gives a fuck who your favorite English Goku is. Schemmel is the one voicing him in the English Kai. I came to this thread looking for more evidence and review of his overall performance in this dub, not on what minute and extremely subjective character details he captures vs other interpretations. And I came to see that information relayed in a manner which, at the very most, displays only the arrogance of a normal human being.

Damn.
Sport, look, I was using the other Goku voices as a reference, not just to bring them up. I was challenged over why I thought Schemmel wasn't a good Goku, and I simply defended my position. I'm not looking to turn the thread into a Peter Kelamis or MasakoX appreciation thread, and if you'd been paying attention, you'd notice.

I never said that only I understand the character, nor was I implying that. Perhaps your natural lack of grasp of conversation lead you to this, but I can hardly be blamed for that. There are plenty of people who get Goku. He's not a complicated character. But clearly none of those people are Sean Schemmel, or Chris Sabat who casted him.

Maybe instead of accusing me of overreacting, some of you might want to dial it down yourselves.

EDIT: Next episode previews sound pretty good.

Wow, those next episode previews are great. They finally got the format right. It's almost surreal to hear these characters engaging in a next episode preview with each other. I assume it's a faithful translation, right? I find it rather weird that Yamucha doesn't get to speak in the preview for his death episode. Was it like that in the original? Can't wait to hear the English version of him getting to lead the preview. Love it!

Also, it was great hearing "Kamehameha" and "Kaio-ken" pronounced correctly, even though T ien and Tri-Beam made me cringe. I even appreciated some of Kaio's humor, like the orange juice concentrate joke, even though his voice is still painful to listen to. I rolled my eyes at the time, but I admit I found it a little funny.

You did? Sorry, I probley didn't see it... Well here ya go, oh and I threw in all the next episode preview audio from episode 2 on (the second batch has higher volume, oops that was my fault). In about two or three weeks these will be deleted. :D

Makankosappo? Dammit, Sabat, if you didn't voice Vegeta I'd totally be in love with you.

Has anyone uploaded a clip with Yamcha in it yet?

Kaio-Ken YES!
Makankosappo YES, YES, YEES!
Spirit Bomb.. NO NO NO!!!! Why not Genkai Dama><
Nimbus.. I'd Prefer Kinto-un..

Other than the 2 mistakes already it's sounding awesome, easily the best Dragon Ball dub to date!

I never minded "Nimbus" for Kintoun, for some reason.

Well, Spirit Bomb isn't much of a mistake. Genki (not Genkai, though I assume that was just a typo) Dama means "good energy" or "having vitality, spirit". Dama means Ball, though I assume the hard T for emphasis. Making Ball into Bomb isn't that big of a change.

I'm not a huge fan of Nimbus either. They could have gotten away with just calling it Kinto'un. Don't think I'd of rather they say Somersault Cloud. ^.^;

You're the first person I've seen who's concerned with this. You're looking at "Spirit Ball" vs "Spirit Bomb." It's not that egregious.

Beaten to it.

Outside of most of Season Three, it's always been like that... Sometimes when talking fast it was more "Kameyhameyha", but that was likely just do to saying so quickly. It was always "Kumayuh-mayuh" in the Ocean dub.

Wait, how'd this turn into a MasakoX rally? Er...

While I like MasakoX's Goku voice, am I the only one that thinks his voice is only good for a parody? I mean, like I said, it's good... but I wouldn't want him as Goku in an official dub. I grew up with Schemmel as Goku so I think he has the best voice for him. :)

And like I said, is it really that inconceivable that he could tone it down a bit and be a perfect regular Goku?

I mean, honestly, most of the Team Four Star cast is pretty spot on in imitating the FUNimation cast. Interpret that how you will...

I don't bear any ill will toward Schemmel's current interpretation of Goku, but Peter Kelamis was my favorite English-speaking Goku. MasakoX, who takes some inspiration from Peter Kelamis, seems to take Kelamis' Goku and go even further with the light-heartedness. Based on some other videos I've seen of him portraying Goku in more serious situations (which I can't seem to find right now) I think he needs a little work in sounding serious, but with a little practice he'd become my absolute favorite English-speaking Goku.

Just because I repeat my opinions, doesn't mean you have to react to them every time.

It's pretty hypocritical on a board where everybody's been reiterating their opinions for a decade.
