Funny Dub Lines

Post by Blue » Fri May 07, 2010 3:57 am

Most of us think Funi is not exceptionally humorous. Once in awhile however they do manage to make a few competent jokes. The few listed below are some my favorite dub jokes. What are some of yours Daizex?

Super Boo: Super Vegetto, so is that your official new name? Hahahahaha, we have such great titles now don't we? Super Boo, Super Vegetto we might as well just say we're invincible.

(While not in character this still always makes me laugh.)
Freeza: Hey, why can't I hit you!? Just tell me!
Goku: You didn't say please.
Freeza: Please, what please!? Yoooouuuu alright theeeeen, PLEASE! *fires a KI blast*.

Dende: Guys, don't piss off the God of love!

Not really a line, but I loved in the Kai dub where King Kai imitated a ring tone sound!
"Kenshi is sitting down right now drawing his mutated spaghetti monsters thinking he's the shit..."--Neptune Kai
"90% of you here don't even know what you're talking about (there are a few that do). But the things you say about these releases are nonsense and just plain dumb. Like you Metalwario64"--final_flash

One line comes to mind:

YES YES YES YES! I CAN WIN! I FEEL GREAT! I CAN DO THIS UGH!

Next quest: Buy the Super: Broly and Super Hero Blurays, also Daima whenever that releases in the states. Also the Super Manga!

Fan of Dragon Ball Z and various other Anime since '98! ^^

Are these really in the dub? This sounds like stuff I'd hear in DBZ: Abridged.

I'll add:

"Whoa! Mondo cool!" - Kuririn

"That's right boys. MONDO COOL." - Vegeta

Except we're laughing at FUNimation, not with them on this occasion. :)

From DBZ Movie 7

"Is it over?"

"Not until the fish jumps."

*splash*

"It's over."

It's a Viz line rather than a dub line, but they had the same habit of putting in jokes where there were none originally.

(paraphrasing)...

Bulma: Oh no, the boat is out of gas.
Oolong: Now what?
Bulma: Can't you turn into some gas or something?
Oolong: Of course not.
Goku: My food turns into gas.

Yamucha: "Cat loves food, y-yeah, yeah, yeah!"
Nothing clever about it. In and of itself, it's not even particularly funny. It's just notably out of place. Vegeta's quip about "your incessant jabbering" is strangely appropriate for the dub.

There are plenty of classic lines in this thread, but I thought of this one as soon as I saw the thread title.

Wow. That was actually... fairly funny. Totally inappropriate and out of character... but I admit I laughed.

IIRC the manga reading is as goes "greater than 8000."

So technically. "IT'S OVER 9000!"

I just went there

The fish jumping line is the single greatest thing Funimation has ever done with the dub, humor wise. That was such a uniquely stupid way to end the movie that it was just begging to be pointed out. Genuinely funny.

I thought the comment Hitler made in the dub of Movie 12 was pretty funny. How'd it go? "Blonde hair? Blue eyes? Super strength? I should be recruiting them!

Freeza: Nice move, but your shoe came untied.

Goku: I'm not going to fall for that. I don't even have shoe laces.

There was no dialogue there originally, but FUNi couldn't resist. :P

Don't forget the rim shot or boinging sound effects they added in there for good measure, just in case someone didn't get that it was a "joke."

Out of context, Funi dub Piccolo's "I assure you, it's fully baked." line was kinda funny.

I found that entertaining as well. I'm drawing a blank on when exactly it was used..

Sometime during the Buu eps.
Kuririn was telling Piccolo that Piccolo's plan was only "half-baked" (I'm tempted to say it was about the whole teaching Trunks and Goten fusion thing.) and Piccolo responds with that line.

With no context, it gives me the mental image of Piccolo making cookies or something.
