I was looking forward to seeing the Garlic Jr arc back in the day, but aside the hilarity of everyone turning into vampire slaves and stuff, the rest of the arc is poorly dragged out and quite boring after the first 3 episodes (except Kami and Popo running :P). The Ano-Yo Budokai filler blows Garlic Jr out of the water anyways.

Too bad that won't be in Kai either.

It's filler, so I expected it to be removed, and no, I'm not disappointed.

Keep it up Kai, you're the little reanimated Frankenstein's monster that could.

I can't say I was surprised to see Kai skip over the Garlic Jr. arc, but I wouldn't have minded if they kept it in because I sort of liked that arc.

I am INCREDIBLY glad it's gone. One of the reasons being, it made absolutely no sense. Garlic Jr. and Haiya Dragon should, in no way, be in canon. Furthermore, why in the blue hell is Piccolo, who was able to go toe-to-toe with SECOND FORM FREEZA, being bitched by someone who, last time they appeared, had a power-level of, at best, 1 Raditz.

Makyo Star be damned, that made about as much sense as a unicorn making love to an African American Optimus Prime.

The only positive thing I can say about this saga is that it's technically the best sort of filler.

Better to simply create a whole new story arc than to badly pace/stretch out canon material in order to fill time. That way you as a viewer can simply watch or skip the extra stuff at your leisure, and if you just want to watch the meat it won't take forever.

If you ask me, there actually should have been MORE filler arcs. I'm surprised they only did this one...

This one's just the most notorious. There are numerous filler episodes, but besides the ones taking part during the major time skips, nobody remembers them as much because they aren't 100% standalones. As for filler arcs, there's also the Afterlife Tournament, which is MUCH better than the Garlic Jr saga. I'm very glad it won't be presented in Kai, not just because it's filler and doesn't belong, but because it sucked.

On that note, the only filler I want kept are parts of the driving episode, as that's based on a 2-panel side-comic done in the form of chapter covers.

The Anoyo'ichi Budôkai is one of the few cases of filler I liked, as it was an awesome throwback to the tournaments of the original DB.

True, but the beginning of the Buu arc also had a tournament.
Although it didn't quite go as planned.

Since it's not in the original manga, I expected it to be "dismissed".

As long as we're talking about Garlic Jr., I didn't think it was worth making a whole new thread to mention this bizarreness. I just got done watching episode 115. At the beginning, Gohan begins attacking Garlic Jr., and then there's this bizarre tonal shift. The frame starts tiny and rushes towards the screen in the shot where Gohan is attacking. Then it cuts to a split-screen of two different angles of Garlic Jr. reacting. Uhhhh... whaaaa? Did the editor get really high and suddenly think he was cutting a music video? :?
