Why was Legends so dang popular?

I am simply curious and I want your opinion. I've played most of the NES DB games, the SNES ones, the Genesis one, all the PS and PS2 ones, as well as Shin Butoden for the Saturn and the PC Engine one. And most of the Gameboy ones.

Most reviewers I came across would say what a glorious masterpeice Legends was. But in my opinion, it was plain mediocre. The game was WAY too easy, all the characters were played in EXACTLY the same way (making even the Budokai 1 characters look completely original in the way you play them out), and the gameplay was very repeative.

I admit that the three-take-on-three style was cool, but with such an idiotic A.I, it was practically non-existent. After a few push-away hits, your fighter and his locked-on opponent were miles away from the other four (unless it was three against one, or two against one...).

So, anyway, what do you guys think? Was Legends worthy of all the praise?
"Destiny"... people claim by force what they desire, wreak havoc upon others in order to acquire it... and they call it "destiny".

I've only played it once, on my cousin's Saturn. And though the gameplay was just buttonbashing, it captured the whole ambiance of DBZ pretty good IMHO. As a game an sich though, it was quite boring.

Heheh, I just can't forget how funny it was when Piccolo threw his turban on the ground at Namek and the whole planet shook from the weight XD

I love Legends because it's original. There's no other game like it. It's simple, yes, but it's fun.
