DBZ steelbook movies on Blu-ray (vs. DVD)
Hi all. I have been searching around for reviews comparing the DBZ steelbook movies on DVD vs Blu-ray but cant seem to find any.
So first, sorry if this has already been asked, but should I buy them on Blu-ray or DVD?
I already have the first 5 steelbooks on DVD but I am wondering if I should sell them and get the steelbook movies on Blu-ray instead.

Re: Dbz steelbook movies on bluray
I would go ahead and complete the set in dvd if you are just 2 away. Then start your Bluray collection with Kai.

Re: Dbz steelbook movies on bluray
OK, thank you. I will go Blu-ray with Kai. I doubt that the Blu-ray steelbooks have such amazing quality that it's a must have.
Well thanks again. I will go ahead and finish my DBZ movie collection and pre-order Kai on Blu-ray.

What would you say if I told you I don't own any of the double features but wanted them? Would you advise Blu-ray or steelbooks? (At this point I have no choice but to buy Cooler on Blu.)

Buy the Steelbooks, than look for the Cooler Double Feature on eBay.powerupguy wrote:What would you say if i told you i don't own any of the double features but wanted them? Would you advise blu ray or steelbooks?(At this point i have no choice but to buy Cooler on Blu)

Haha believe me i did. Looks like the only way to own it on DVD is used off of amazon for $58.Choice195 wrote:Buy the Steelbooks, than look for the Cooler Double Feature on eBay.powerupguy wrote:What would you say if i told you i don't own any of the double features but wanted them? Re: DBZ steelbook movies on Blu-ray (vs. DVD)
I check ebay like everyday for a Cooler's Revenge DVD (steelbook). I can't ever find one. Never. They are all either singles or Blu ray.Choice195 wrote:Buy the Steelbooks, than look for the Cooler Double Feature on eBay.powerupguy wrote:What would you say if i told you i don't own any of the double features but wanted them? At this point I'm willing to pay quite a lot of money for it. It's driving me mad, I badly want it to complete my collection! Quite recently, I was winning a bid. I bid 40 pounds. Unfortunately, it ended while I was at school, and I was outbid by 1 pound!
Anyway, I'd say keep an eye out for the ones you want, and if you can't get them, at all, get the Blu rays.

What??? The Blu Rays are FAR better quality than the DVDs! There should be no discussion of this even, 1080p is always superior to 480p.
If you can find the Blu Rays, then get those over the Steelbooks for sure!

Not if the show is made for 480p. No matter how much you upscale something, it's still going to be the same animation, and will not always look better.MetalMadness wrote:What??? But the Blu Rays aren't upscaled, they are natively 1080p. I have the Blu Rays, and believe me I know the difference between something that has been forcefully upscaled to 1080p and something that looks natively 1080p.Great Saiyaman I wrote:Not if the show is made for 480p. Now granted DBZ on Blu Ray certainly doesn't look as good as more recent movies on Blu Ray, but it certainly looks better than the DVDs.
I would post a comparison shot, but I do not have the DVDs on here, so if anyone could be so kind as to post a shot of an image from any movie, I can post the same shot from the Blu Ray.

How much would people be willing to pay for the Cooler Double Feature?

Re: DBZ steelbook movies on Blu-ray (vs. DVD)
This is true. FUNimation procured film masters from Toei and telecined them at 1080p, however the film masters were pretty weathered and FUNimation applied varying amounts of DVNR that eliminated a decent amount of detail from their HD master. For what it's worth, the 480p DragonBox release upscaled still looks better on my TV than the 1080p FUNi releases.MetalMadness wrote:But the Blu Rays aren't upscaled, they are natively 1080p. Whoops, I have this really bad tendency to word things wrong. Sorry for the confusion.MetalMadness wrote:But the Blu Rays aren't upscaled, they are natively 1080p. I would like to get it for an average DBZ steelbook price, but I'm okay with buying it for between 30-50 Euro, incl. P+P.SSJSteve wrote:How much would people be willing to pay for the Cooler Double Feature?

That's a good price. If I decide to sell it, I'll let you know.jordanator wrote:I would like to get it for an average DBZ steelbook price, but I'm okay with buying it for between 30-50 Euro, incl. P+P.SSJSteve wrote:How much would people be willing to pay for the Cooler Double Feature?

Infact, I would much rather get it off someone from here, than eBay.

Re: DBZ steelbook movies on Blu-ray (vs. DVD)
They won't pay much since amazon.ca have it in stock for $30 which works out at £20 for me in the UK with shipping
Next to get; Leged of Saiyan figures and Freeza's force
If anyone sees
Any of the Legend of Saiyan line going cheapish
Or any other Banpresto DBZ figure
If anyone has a cooler steelbook dvd that wants to sell it (prefer new but used is fine) when/if the dragon box movies comes out contact me

Re: DBZ steelbook movies on Blu-ray (vs. DVD)
Yeah, but that isn't really in stock. I asked them about it, and they said it takes 2-3 months to get it from their supplier...which may mean the supplier hasn't got any left.oXdanXo wrote:They won't pay much since amazon.ca have it in stock for $30 which works out at £20 for me in the UK with shipping

Re: DBZ steelbook movies on Blu-ray (vs. DVD)
The Blu-Ray versions are definitely the better product (if only it wasn't region locked.
), though because FUNimation did an automated job (first 6 movies, 8 and 10 being the worst), the scratches/dirt marks etc from film damage are more noticeable. It's just too bad Toei/Pony Canyon didn't transfer the Dragon Box masters at 1080p.

Didn't know, I ordered mine a few weeks back when it was shipping within 24 hours on their page.jordanator wrote:Yeah, but that isn't really in stock.
