DVD ripping question

I'm new to the whole AMV thing, and I have never ripped stuff from a DVD before. On this page, http://www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/ ... ogetb.html, it sounds like it's saying when you rip something from a DVD, it takes it off of the DVD, and you have to put if back on or something... >_<

Is that was ripping is? I thought you copied the stuff from your DVD to your computer or something. I don't want to accidently ruin my DVDs...

You are right, ripping is the process of copying material off the DVD to your computer. However, a DVD is read-only, meaning you can never remove it from the disc. So no matter what you try they will be fine.

Now I have another question. I've ripped said DVD, now how do I upload the files into Windows Movie Maker (<_<)
It says WMM doesn't support the kind of files I'm trying to upload.

Hmm well I've never used Windows Movie Maker, but what type of files are they (what extension)? Do you have any documentation online somewhere on using that program?
