I see. Thanks. He sounded a bit different. Maybe it's because I didn't catch his voice quite clearly.

Wait, Kai has been out for ten years?Gaffer Tape wrote: Last I checked, this was supposedly a bilingual release. And to some people, the big deal is the show itself, not a decade-too-late dub.
Re: Dragon Ball Z Kai Volume 1 Discussion
The dub itself came out perfectly in relation to Kai. They're referring to it's release compared to Season Three.
Really, far too many people here are being unfair to a good dub due to some incompetent choices that kept such a thing from coming sooner. Why punish a good thing for the bad that came before it's time?
And seriously, when I saw that clip, I thought Takahata came in as Nappa's dub voice, lol. I know that voice was somewhat of a mimic, but Phil Parsons must have been channeling Taka for that scene.

I'm not being unfair to Kai's dub. I think it's a great effort, and I think they did a good job. It simply doesn't interest me. If I were to buy Kai (which I probably won't), it would be for the original version, not the dub. That's simply all there is to it. But it does get a bit wearying hearing people constantly rattle off that the dub is the ONLY thing worth buying about this set. True, Kai in general doesn't exactly send me over the moon, but still...

I got set at friday, and just finished episode 13,and while i can`t believe i say it,English dub actually saved Kai for me
Sadly,i probably never watch Kai in Japanese again, dont get me wrong Goku/Kuririn/Piccolo/Freeza still sound ok,but i cant stand Bulma and Vegeta{Since Jump Special, he sounds like he smoked pack of Marlboro}In English version,i like every voice so far

To me, Kai is defiintely only worth buying for the dub(and I'm sure it's not only me). I've already seen the Japanese version and now I only want the dub. And this is coming from someone who prefers the Japanese version.Gaffer Tape wrote:I'm not being unfair to Kai's dub. I think it's a great effort, and I think they did a good job. Re: Dragon Ball Z Kai Volume 1 Discussion
Not a weird reasoning, this sounds exactly like me. I just ordered it yesterday. The Kai Japanese version is flawed compared to its Z counterpart. The English is an improvement over Z. I just wish though I could get this English version with the Kikuchi score, but oh well.Strongbad456 wrote:To me, Kai is definitely only worth buying for the dub(and I'm sure it's not only me). Yeah, the Japanese version of Kai just seems half-assed compared to Z.
I like both the Japanese and the Dub of Z too. But, the Japanese Kai just doesn't interest me at all. Replaced voices (not really needed), crappier score (compared to Z), half-assed performances from the original actors (minus Nozawa).
Re: Dragon Ball Z Kai Volume 1 Discussion
But...in a way...the dub IS the only thing worth buying about this set. The original is basically the same as it was...just re-recorded (And from what I've seen...the voice acting isn't as good as what Z was).Gaffer Tape wrote:...it does get a bit wearying hearing people constantly rattle off that the dub is the ONLY thing worth buying about this set. However, with the dub is something entirely new. It has an accurate script, better voice acting than before, it's a completely new experience in terms of dubbed Dragon Ball. I'm not saying Kai isn't new and fresh in and of itself...but this dub makes it even more-so in English.
I mean...honestly...if the dub were the same quality as before...I know I wouldn't pick it up.

Same exact thoughts. I've been buying the Dragon Box's for the good quality Japanese version, but i'll be getting the Kai sets purely for the new Dub, I don't really care about the new animation/edits. (Except the opening/ending themes those are interesting.)

Re: Dragon Ball Z Kai Volume 1 Discussion
Apart from how unlistenable the English version of Yeah! Break! Care! Break! is...
This is easily the DVD of the year. This is leaps and bounds over FUNimation's previous Dragon Ball-related dubs, and I already liked their previous work quite a bit apart from Z's Season 3 and early Season 4. I'm blown away by the excellent script and how great everyone sounds, the new voice actor for Gohan is everything I could have dreamed for and more. The 5.1 surround sound is also jaw droppingly amazing to say the least. How could I have ever thought about selling my sub-woofers?
Despite having caught every single episode of Kai up to this point fan subbed, I'm pretty sure I'm never going to switch to Japanese-language track even once. I may even stop keeping track of fan subs. The English versions will be just that much more fresh once I finally catch them on DVD. Picture quality is excellent despite only being on DVD, but I hope to get the Blu-ray as well once I have a PS3. I plan on collecting both the DVDs and the Blu-rays, I love Kai that much. I have to say, the re-traced scenes that I never used to like when I watched the fan subs look much better when you're watching the show on a high definition TV from a moderate distance away, they don't look nearly as out-of-place. The revised effects such as hitsparks and auras look beautiful, in fact.
The only underwhelming aspect of this release is the length. I really would have loved for this to have been a 26-episode Season rather than a 13-episode Part. I literally blasted through this set from start to finish and was begging for more. I may marathon through it again this weekend with a friend. Minor nitpicks aside, this is easily my favorite release from FUNimation ever.

Yup, I think the DVD/Blu-ray is worth it for the dub. While the original is just DBZ shortened, the English dub is more than that!
I don't recall seeing you complaining about this when it comes to One Piece...
So they could be a few words off or just re-worded. Big deal.JulieYBM wrote:The English translations aren't exactly accurate.
Is it that surprising fans would like the phrase "uncut and unedited" to apply to a whole episode?
