Alternate OP for the NickToons broadcast!?

Post by KKZ » Mon May 24, 2010 8:03 pm

It's the same song and lyrics, but it sounds like it's being sung by Vic Mignogna!? What gives?

Cool, Vic's more talented vocally anyway (not even sure if it's true or not, but I wanted Vic to sing the OP from the start).

I vastly prefer Schemmel's performance actually, the auto-tune is even more obvious in the NickToons version of the OP.

I honestly did not hear any auto-tune. I'll wait until the second episode. However, even if it's there...they must have done a better job on it. Not to take away from Schemmel's version, I loved it, but I prefer this one.

Just turned it on. What was the big surprise at the beginning?

Piccolo is meeting Raditz right now.

Vic's opening I presume. Why is there another thread for this? Shouldn't this discussion be in the broadcast thread?

On second listen, there is no auto-tune. My bad. I literally walked in half way through the OP and after literally shouting, "WHAT THE FUCK?" thought I had heard auto-tune for some reason. I guess I was pretty shocked. Vic sounds really good but I still like the DVD version more. I hope a full version sung by Mignogna doesn't replace Schemmel's on future home releases. :(

Didn't see it when I posted this thread. A mod is more than welcome to close this one.

At first glance, I was liking Vic's performance, but at the line, "We will rise again," at Again, it's a higher note, but Vic completely overshoots it and to me it really breaks his overall performance. I never thought I'd say it... but I much prefer Sean's version of the OP. It at least hits most, if not all the notes pretty well, even if it's with the help of auto tune.

Lyrics:

Mysteries abound, made of a deep energy (energy)
Foes all around, but I will go fearless and free!
I give you strength, you give me love, that's how we'll live (that's how we'll live)
My courage won't fade, if you're with me, my enemies will never win!

We will fight for love and glory, we will live to tell the story
There is nothing we can't live through
Nothing ever dies, we will rise again!

Don't stop, don't stop, we're in luck now
Don't stop, there's so much to be found!
We can find paradise, all we have to do is
Go! Go! Free your soul!

(03:03) <puto_> k so guys
(03:04) <puto_> here are the results of my screwing around with vic's dragon soul
(03:04) <puto_> some of the cuts are awkward and there is a repeated line, as well as a single "go!" by schemmel because those parts just weren't IN the TV version
(03:04) <puto_> http://www.pu7o.org/mp3/dsoultv_playaround.mp3
(03:05) <puto_> and for extra loltasticness
(03:05) <puto_> Vic and Schemmel dueting

Well, screw me for doubting Vic's vocal style; I didn't cringe! It actually did sound better than Sean Schemmel's version. (I still like the Japanese version better, and I've already made the 58-second edit of the song, so I can still have Tanimoto-san open the show.) And I'm safely assuming that FUNimation got permission for the writers of Dragon Soul to shorten the song even further than the 1:25 that airs in Japan and on the DVDs.

I like Schemmel's version a lot more. The main verse ("don't stop, don't stop," etc.) sounds better with the Nick Toons version, but overall, I like Schemmel's a lot more.

But what is up with the change of font for the episode title cards? Or is that just my imagination? I don't feel like popping in my Blu-ray right now.

Yeah, the font's different. The font used for the DVD/Blu-Rays was the same font that Funi used for the credits in all of the remastered DBZ stuff.

Hi, I'm Brakus and I'm a huge nerd. Why?

Not only have I made a 58-second edit of the song using the original Japanese vocalist, but also, I made a quick and semi-clean version of the OP video with much better editing than what aired on Nicktoons. Yes, I put in my own credits and uploaded a purposely low-res version of the video so as to discourage swiping. Besides, I made it for my own benefit and thought it would be nice to see what the OP would look like in Japanese and properly edited. I hope you like it....
