Haha, yeah pretty much. They use it as if it's the actual name of the place, rather than just a nickname. I would be fine with that if they used it like a nickname and didn't put so much emphasis on it, but that's not the case.

Sean's version of Dragon Soul was a lot more closer to the original and I enjoy it a lot more than Vic's, seemed like Vic was forcing himself to sound like he's really feeling the song. You can tell Sean was just so happy to be singing the intro and you only really hear the auto-tune in Sean's version once or twice.

To me, Vic was genuinely into the song and sounded great and full of talent, where as Sean sounded really bored while "singing" it.

I can't believe Raditz said: " I would do whatever it takes to win even lie to my brother". Even in the old T.V version he said" I wouldn't hesitate to kill my own brother if need be."

Sean didn't sound bored, he was trying to go with something in style of the original. Vic, meanwhile, sounded forced in his singing. Lots of odd rasp, random emphasis (random screaming /=into the song). I know Vic can sing good...but this wasn't a particularly good performance from him. Personally, I preferred his singing for Dan Dan and We Are.

And some of these TV edits can be rather amusing, if you have the "uncut" version to go on by comparison.

Not only that, but his voice cracked severely during the "We will rise AGAAAAAIIN!" part, and he completely missed the note on "again".

Thank you, I had forgotten to mention the cracking, which really surprised me the first listen in. It sounds more like a joke take they stuck with, or a blooper of sorts. Not what one usually expects from Vic.

Edits: They cut out Piccolo's blood actually dripping from his severed arm, but they show the puddle of it and you can hear the sounds of dripping blood. Raditz hitting Gohan was also cut.

Notes: Raditz saying "What? What is this?" made me laugh because it reminded me of the original Resident Evil game where Barry says this line.
That blood edit was bizarre. The puddle keeps growing, but you can't see the drops of blood falling. They would have been better off just cutting the shot of the ground entirely.

And I thought of Resident Evil too.

Notes: Goku saying "Yo!" was a nice little addition, makes him closer to his original character.
That made me smile, especially Kami's reaction: "You don't address King Yemma with a 'Yo!'"

Either FUNimation doesn't care, or they're sticking it to the man.

Sean's seems like the joke to me. Vic sounds way more into what he's doing, and is a plain better singer.

Except for the voice cracking, randomly drifting in rasp to the voice, random emphasis to words in out of place points...I like Vic, I like Vic's singing. But, in this particular instance, it was rough, clearly not his A game. Schemmel's version didn't have any of these problems. Besides, he's done some nice music on his own time, the man does have singing talent.

Note: Random screaming and fluxing in overly gritty tone doesn't equal more into it, or one would try to say Christian Bale was the most into Batman.

Hahaha! That's a wonderful comparison!

Seriously though, just because Vic Mignogna is a more talented singer doesn't mean that every single thing he puts out is automatically the "best", or "better than Schemmel's" work just because. That would be like saying "I like Nintendo more than Sony or Microsoft, so every game they put out is automatically better than games on those systems, no matter what!".

Monica Rial's Bulma sounds so natural, it's like she's always been doing it.

I'm right back to not enjoying Kai again. This is the first time I've seen these episodes. A lot of great stuff cut; the pacing of the manga in this part does not translate well to TV. Also, the soundtrack is stopping just short of putting me to sleep.

Aside from minor accuracy fixes (this portion of the series was never too plagued), I can safely say that the voices are at the same level of performance they've been the last few years. Not amazing, not awful, but apart from Piccolo and the recast characters, not overwhelmingly different.

Three days in, and so far, I was thinking that this was about as close as we'd ever get to 'The Perfect Dragonball Dub'. All things considered I've been enjoying it, and it's felt nostalgic watching Dragonball on TV for the first time in years.

And then I find out that despite fantastic voice replacements for Gohan and Bulma, KAIOH WASN'T RECAST. I would be forever content with Linda Young as Freeza and call it a perfect dub if they would come to their senses already and fucking recast Kaioh. Dammit, my enjoyment just dropped by 50% when I heard that Eric-Cartman-with-a-mouth-full-of-saliva-covered-marbles voice instead of finally giving the wise old (if...eccentric) master an appropriate voice befitting him.

Dammit, FUNi. You were so close, too.

My cousin is still sticking to his Gohan will turn evil theory but he's mad at Piccolo for destroying the moon. He said that Gohan's "gorilla mode" would've helped kill the Saiyans. Also he wonders why Mr. Popo is so black. I couldn't help but laugh.

But that's why I like his voice so much! Personally I think it fits better with the look of the character than the "wise old" master voice. Surely I'm not the only one who thinks so?

Join the club.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Scarz we are some of the few. I can't say I love the voice, but I enjoy it. It really only hits one note of Kaio's personality, but I can't complain much.

I also think I'm the only one who thinks that Burgmeier improved a little as Tenshinhan. His voice seems a lot more natural and less gravelly like it used to.
