Goku not mad at his father's death?
I'm watching the first disc of DragonBox 3 and Goku is talking to Frieza and frieza like flat out tells him that he killed his father......so why didn't he get angry at that/
Was it because they never met before or....?

Re: Goku not mad at his father's death?
The Saiyans were a brutal race of mass-murderers. Goku probably feels like they reaped what they sowed, including his father. That doesn't mean he didn't embrace his Saiyanhood to some degree, but as far as the other Saiyans being dead, they got what was coming.

But he's also a fighter, through and through [...] he fight until he has, in no uncertain terms, beaten his enemy on terms they can both acknowledge. He doesn't want to kill anyone, or even prove that he can win... he just wants to know he can. He's an ineffably charming bastard who's manly leanings were really incendental, and yes, the fact that he was voiced by a squeaky woman made the combination perhaps all the more charming.

The only other Saiyan relative he had ever met was Raditz...that didn't go so well. He probably thought his father was as ruthless as any other Saiyan just like his brother.

Yeah, it would be like if someone told me my great-great-great-grandfather was killed. I never knew the guy, have no emotional connection to him. I would feel a slight bit of kinship at hearing something like that, but I wouldn't enter grief mode. Goku's father is just as removed to him.

Re: Goku not mad at his father's death?
Goku only has feelings towards those he knows or once knew.
Like Grandpa Gohan - He didn't know what happened to him until the Saiyan Saga and he sure as hell was sad/angry about that. Especially why he wasn't told before about it.
Probably cause he just never knew the guy. Never knew what kind of person Bardock was

He seemed to take it pretty easily to me. He certainly wasn't angry about not being told or whatever. He was just sorry for what he had done. That whole moment went by incredibly fast.Zionist wrote:Like Grandpa Gohan - He didn't know what happened to him until the Saiyan Saga and he sure as hell was sad/angry about that. As the for the topic, doesn't Goku outright say that the Saiyans got what they deserved at some point in that fight?
Re: Goku not mad at his father's death?
Why should he care about his father? He never even met him. And he probably thought that he was as bad as Raditz so...LeprikanGT wrote:I'm watching the first disc of DragonBox 3 and Goku is talking to Freeza and frieza like flat out tells him that he killed his father......so why didn't he get angry at that/

Yep. Then Frieza tells him, that they didn't and it was just him killing them.Amigo Ten wrote:He seemed to take it pretty easily to me. He certainly wasn't angry about not being told or whatever. Yeah, I agree. One can't feel grief knowing that someone was killed without ever knowing about or meeting them before.Gaffer Tape wrote:Yeah, it would be like if someone told me my great-great-great-grandfather was killed. Well I added probably because I don't know for certain what Toriyama was having Goku think about that situation if anything at all.Piccolo Daimao wrote: I think it's because you said "probably".

He thought that you thought that Bardock wasn't a ruthless Saiyan like the rest of them.

Well he kind of had to move on quickly in that instance considering that Vegeta was planning to try crushing him to death at any moment.Amigo Ten wrote:He seemed to take it pretty easily to me. He's angry about not being told in the dub. Naughty, naughty Funimation.Amigo Ten wrote:He seemed to take it pretty easily to me. He certainly wasn't angry about not being told or whatever. Like many have pointed out, Goku never even met his father. So theres no emotional bond.

Re: Goku not mad at his father's death?
I actually really liked an exchange of words between Goku and Freeza from the original Japanese version where Freeza says how horrible Saiyans were and that's why they were killed. Goku says that they got what was coming to them. Freeza gloats that he was the one who killed them all, and Goku responds that Freeza will now get what's coming to him. I love that exchange between the two.
Goku never knew Bardock. And Bardock was, for all intents and purposes, just as horrible as any other Saiyan. He was a heartless warrior who cared about nothing. The only thing he cared about was him staying alive, knowing that he couldn't rebel against Freeza alone. That's all. And Goku had zero attachment to him, so that's why he didn't care.
