To expand a bit, too:
When I had lunch with Sabat during AnimeMilwaukee, we were talkin' about REALLY in-depth Dragonball shit, the type of stuff people on this forum would talk about; hence why I also tried to emphasize how much of a fan of this series Chris is along the same lines as us. I brought up Freeza, who at the time was still set to be played by Linda, and he had expressed the same negative feelings we had towards it as well. Linda's apparently the nicest lady in the world, but the sad fact is, and to quote him "(Freeza) sounds like your mom trying to do a bad guy voice".
He had been, for a long time, interested in using a male actor to portray Freeza, but opted out each time because he thought it might've been too radical of a change for American fans of the show to accept. Obviously the other cast changes (i.e. Bulma, Gohan etc.) aren't SO incredibly different from what they used to sound like; at least as far as their voice goes, their acting is far superior. It's also been explained in the video why the decision to change wasn't just done from the very beginning, and as a result of it, there is an inconsistency in the first episode because of the laugh.
(Side note: It was rumored the new Freeza had dubbed over the laugh for the broadcast version, but not so much.)
But yeah so we were talking about the prospect of a male actor playing Freeza and I even went so far as to mention some actors people were thinking of on here. He agreed on some of 'em, but the one he added (which is who's doing him) I hadn't even THOUGHT of...and anyone who knows me for any amount of time has seen that I know my shit when it comes to VAs, so the fact that I didn't even think of this guy was baffling to me. Like I said though, PERFECT match for Ryuusei Nakao's very particular voice. Get psyched.
