No offence Kirb, but we get it.
There's going to be a surprise!
Woo! You know what it is before we do!

It's not building the suspense, it's just irritating to read at the point.

There's no way you're serious.

At this point if you're thinking that all 3 of those were terrible choices and are more annoying than their predecessors, you're either trolling, an out of control fanboy, or you just don't like something if everyone else does too.
Because God forbid people disagree, right?

Everyone is shouting the same ol' (occasionally baseless) arguments back at each other that have been done to/at/with the same folks in other threads, and even in the chat room.

Folks really need to learn how to politely converse with each other, not take things personally / stop playing the victim, and rationally step back from time to time.

Until (if? when? maybe? who?) there's something to announced, I think we're done here.

Re-opened due to confirmation from FUNimation:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQimwco0qo4

No matter which side you stand on, let's look to the future, compare to the past where applicable and relevant, and really enjoy the fact that American fans are finally about to get a taste of the actual character for the first time.

That's pretty damn exciting.

Oop, sorry, didn't see this was re-opened. I'll just post this here too:

Yes everybody, that was the "big thing".

To the people that thought I was "loitering it over" you, I literally was NOT ALLOWED to say what it was without getting in major trouble. I was attempting to drop hints to you guys and essentially "say it without actually saying it". I apologize again for coming off the wrong way, but at the very least I hope you guys know where I was coming from and what position I was in.

That aside, now that it's -allowed- to be talked about, let me just say that it's going to be fucking AMAZING. Still can't say who the actor is, but like I teased on another thread, the person they chose is someone I never even thought would be, but is THE perfect English equivalent to Ryuusei Nakao. It's a voice the actor I don't think has ever done before, either, so there's nothing to go looking for that will even give you a hint as to what it's like. I have full confidence that this guy's gonna knock it outta the park and finally show everyone in the US how Freeza is really supposed to be like.

Also, as it's been stated already, Freeza's not the only one getting a new voice. In fact I'll go as far to say that prettymuch all of Freeza's henchmen are getting voice changes, as far as I know.

Also didn't see this until I'd already posted, so I'll reiterate my thoughts on the matter:

And suddenly I'm interested in Kai again. Props to FUNimation for being willing to let go of actors that've been working on the in-house dub since it started if they feel they don't fit the character.

Awesome. Suddenly VERY curious to hear this new voice that's supposedly "the perfect English equivalent to Ryûsei Nakao" :)

Did anyone else chuckle when the screen cut to Freeza with an i? That aside, will definitely be picking Kai up now.

To expand a bit, too:

When I had lunch with Sabat during AnimeMilwaukee, we were talkin' about REALLY in-depth Dragonball shit, the type of stuff people on this forum would talk about; hence why I also tried to emphasize how much of a fan of this series Chris is along the same lines as us. I brought up Freeza, who at the time was still set to be played by Linda, and he had expressed the same negative feelings we had towards it as well. Linda's apparently the nicest lady in the world, but the sad fact is, and to quote him "(Freeza) sounds like your mom trying to do a bad guy voice".

He had been, for a long time, interested in using a male actor to portray Freeza, but opted out each time because he thought it might've been too radical of a change for American fans of the show to accept. Obviously the other cast changes (i.e. Bulma, Gohan etc.) aren't SO incredibly different from what they used to sound like; at least as far as their voice goes, their acting is far superior. It's also been explained in the video why the decision to change wasn't just done from the very beginning, and as a result of it, there is an inconsistency in the first episode because of the laugh.

(Side note: It was rumored the new Freeza had dubbed over the laugh for the broadcast version, but not so much.)

But yeah so we were talking about the prospect of a male actor playing Freeza and I even went so far as to mention some actors people were thinking of on here. He agreed on some of 'em, but the one he added (which is who's doing him) I hadn't even THOUGHT of...and anyone who knows me for any amount of time has seen that I know my shit when it comes to VAs, so the fact that I didn't even think of this guy was baffling to me. Like I said though, PERFECT match for Ryuusei Nakao's very particular voice. Get psyched.

Even though Part 2 is gonna be released in September, will episodes past 13 still air on TV? I'm really excited to hear the new Freeza, even if it is on the edited dub.

Well I liked Sabat's Zarbon and Brice's Ginyu, but oh well.

Haha yeah I did too!

I'm happy to hear there will be a new Freeza, but honestly I don't know who they will get to do him now. Honestly wasn't expecting this since the home release clearly has Linda Young doing the laugh, so I guess it will be inconsistant but oh well.

I'm glad to hear this. For all the people who say Linda Young was a good Freeza, she was, for what FUNimation wrote Freeza as. But, as Mr. Sabat said, they wanted to use a new Freeza as she couldn't keep up with the "actual" Freeza lines.

As I just wrote on the video comments "Damn, now I wanna see/hear what the new Freeza sounds like".

Also, what Kirbopher said got me only more curious about it.

Yeah, I just saw the third interview and came running over here, haha! Cool stuff! I can't wait to hear it. I hope it's Chuck Huber, I think he'd make a good Freeza if he follows Ryuusei Nakao's performance.

Heh, I was wrong. Eh, no big loss to me because I didn't actually care either way, I'll just have to get used to it.

And I haven't watched enough of the Frieza saga in Japanese to particularly care about how close the voice is to his Japanese counterpart. So I guess you could say I'm completely apathetic to this change. As long as it doesn't suck, I don't care.

Honestly, I still think the dub would have benefitted from a new Kaio much more than a new Freeza. I'm one of the few "hardcore subbies (lolz)" who was never that put out by English Freeza. I think with an accurate script and better directing, the might have been able to get her where she needed to be. But I'm quite excited to see where they'll go from here. Just wish they'd replaced fuckin' Kaio!!!

Brice Armstrong would have made a great Kaio.

Can't wait to hear the new Freeza!
