New PS2 Game, Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi
New PS2 Game, Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi
I work at a Gamestop, and today it appeared in our Point of Sale System for the PS2 with a release date in late November, I think it actually said the 22nd for the ship date.
Atari as always is listed as the publisher.
So the real question is, is this a new Budokai game or a port of Bandai's DBZ: Sparking?
Edit: The reservation number for the game in the database is 997171 if your local Gamestop workers are too lazy to look it up for you.

Hey, either way that's great news
.
New Budokai Game? Sweet!
Atari's name for Sparking? Great. At least that means we now have a confirmed release date for everywhere that's not Japan.
Actually I kind of hope this is news of another Budokai (though I highly doubt it) because it is almost certain that Sparking will be released everywhere anyway and if so, this means more DBZ gaming goodness.
*Wonders just how minted Toriyama-sensei is form royalties*
EDIT: I..um..CRAP!!

<Kaboom> I'm just glad that he now sounds more like Invader Zim than Rita Repulsa
<Xyex> Original Freeza never sounded like a chick to me.
<Kaboom> Neither does Rita
<Xyex> Good point.

It's on Gamestop.com too. They give it a release date of 11/15. Looks like Budokai 4 to me.

That is possible, however, Sparking! has yet to even recieve a JPN relese date (just Fall 2005) so it's hard to see the American version (which will come out second) having one already.

EDIT: Further more, they may be using the word in a similar but non-exact context to the Tenkaichi Budokai of the series. As Tenkaichi roughly means 'greatest', 'best on earth', etc... it sounds like a fancy way of saying Budokai: Complete Edition! And, if I'm right.... *drooooooools*
Because they're morons? Why the hell don't they just call it "Tenkaichi Budokai" instead of doing it backasswords?

Wasn't this the game about which FUNImation had a poll a while ago on their site? I think there's a topic in it in General, or DB discussion.

Nice to know, thanks. Knowing very little in the ways of Japanese, and with the subtitles on my Dragonball dvd's refering to the tournament as the "Tenka'ichi Tournament", my understanding of the words were/are limited.Pedro The Hutt wrote:Actually, greatest under the heavens is pretty accurate. >.>

Because dubbies don't have a flippin' clue what "Sparking!" refers to. Look around at any generic (dare I say it) "newbie" board. You'll find posts on every single one asking why the Hell it's named "Sparking!"Dewgel wrote:I somehow have a hunch that this ain't Sparking!, why would they called it "Sparking!" in Japan, and use a Japanese name in the US? Because "Sparking!" is the final line in the lyrics of the first DBZ theme song "Cha-la-head-cha-la"Rocketman wrote:VegettoEX wrote:Because dubbies don't have a flippin' clue what "Sparking!" refers to. They did have "Sparking" and "We Gotta Power" capsules in Budokai 3! So I don't see why they'd change the name.VegettoEX wrote:Because dubbies don't have a flippin' clue what "Sparking!" refers to. Although the developers did say "it will give more liberty than the Budokai series", so then them saying "Budokai Tenkaichi" is like saying it's a greater version of Budokai... (the backwards order of the name still bothers me)

Here's the thing.
Sparking! is being developed by a completely different game developer. I don't think Bandai would suddenly just give up on Dimps after their great success with the last games, in order to make another Budokai game.
Sparking! is not a Budokai game.
The comparison with "more freedom" or what-not is simply that... a comparison. It's a completely different game with a different gameplay style.
Not sure if that's what you're getting at, but it's a problem I see a LOT of other boards having... they don't understand that this isn't a new Budokai game. Whether or not the Gamespot listing of a Budokai Tenkaichi turns out to be the domestic Sparking! remains to be seen, though.

VegettoEX, please clarify for my sake.
Spike is developing Sparking!, and that's completely fine.
Do we have any news/clues/interviews which state that Bandai didn't employ Dimps to make another DBZ game (Budokai 4) for the year of 2005?

"Destiny"... people claim by force what they desire, wreak havoc upon others in order to acquire it... and they call it "destiny".
