Kirbopher wrote:Yeah Zarbon's new actor is perfect as well, Chris was really resistant to give him up at the time I spoke with him, so it looks like by the time he came up in the episodes, he decided to pass him on. As mentioned in another thread, that'll be the case for the Ginyu Force as well, he'll be giving most, if not all, of the members he voiced, up. Oh also pretty sure Mike will be doing Dodoria now, as he did in Raging Blast, but that one's not 100% definite.
The new Zarbon is indeed brilliant. I can't wait until it gets to Namek now!

I wonder though, is Young COMPLETELY out, as in will we be hearing #*&!$ @%&^$ play him on TV too, or just the DVDs?

Then recast Android 17. No offense to any 17 fans out there, but the character's not nearly as interesting as Freeza (in my humble and certainly non-definitive opinion).
That logic is flawed. "Lets recast two people instead of one because Huber(in theory) would make a good Freeza!" Or, like they are doing, Funimation could keep Huber on 17 and recast some one for Freeza. That way we avoid confusion and headaches.
...Wait what are you doing? Are you still reading this? I finished what I had to say, why don't you move on to the next post?

Okay fine Funimation, it's apparent you're putting in 100x more effort then the Japanese production staff. Here, take my friggin' wallet.

I'm more super excited to hear there will (most likely) be a new Recoome. That's the highlight of this news.

I was so excited for Z Kai because of a 'new' DBZ; not a voice cast over haul.

What "Overhaul"?

So far, they've replaced 3 Major characters (Gohan, Bulma, Freeza) other than that, they just appear to be recasting a bunch of Sabat's minor roles (He seriously played the majority of the Ginyu Special Corps) So now, Freeza's henchmen won't ALL be Chris fucking Sabat.

Japan actually did the same thing. In Japan, NONE OF the Ginyu Special Corps use their old VAs.

An "Overhaul" would have been replacing Schemmel as Son, replacing Sabat's Vegeta, Yamucha and Piccolo, Replaying Sonny Strait as Kuririn and replacing Mike McFarland and Cynthia Cranz as Kamesen'nin an Chichi respectively.

This is just some selective recasting, pretty much just like Japan got.

No, he actually really wanted to keep Recoome, but I'm not sure that he will since he was so resistant about Zarbon and first and then gave him up. My guess is that all of the Ginyu Force will be different.

The difference here is the cast list isn't as follows

Butta- Nick Carter
Gurd-Justin Bieber
Jheese- Joe Jonas
Recoome-Kevin Richardson
Ginyu- Lady GaGa

Gaffer Tape wrote:Ugh, I hate the gender logic that flits around here like so many pesky flies. I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with Freeza being portrayed by a woman, just like I don't think there's anything wrong with Goku being portrayed by a woman. And Freeza being recast with a male won't automatically make it right. He could get Reacoom's voice! Would that still be better just because it's a man?!

That said, doesn't necessarily mean the woman they initially chose for Freeza was great, and that doesn't mean I don't think the new replacement won't be great (or at least good). I'm just sick of the gender bias (on both sides). I don't care what genitalia an actor has; if he/she has the chops to pull of a certain role, then throw them in the recording booth. If not, then don't. That's as simple as it gets!
My problem wasn't so much that Linda Young's Freeza sounded like a woman per se, but that his whole sound was "deranged tranny" which distracts the viewer from the real character.

But frankly, I'm not a huge fan of the male Goku we have, so hey, recast him with a woman (probably wouldn't work in English, I know)!

If Sabat is going to remain as Recoome, he HAS to ditch the retard-speak.

But he's also a fighter, through and through [...] he fight until he has, in no uncertain terms, beaten his enemy on terms they can both acknowledge. He doesn't want to kill anyone, or even prove that he can win... he just wants to know he can. He's an ineffably charming bastard who's manly leanings were really incendental, and yes, the fact that he was voiced by a squeaky woman made the combination perhaps all the more charming.

It's clear that non-native English speakers and native English speakers aren't quite seeing eye-to-eye on the humor, here. Let's keep things strictly on-topic! Thanks!

That this is going to change the fanbase's destiny and his voice should be burned in our memories. It's kinda late for that.

Well, I'm already working on getting the Kai dub burned into my memories... 8)

I really wish more dub fans were open-minded. Seeing all of those YouTube comments that say "you destroyed gohan bulma and now teh ultimate freiza? DAMN YOU FUNI!!!!1" just saddens me deeply.

See the same stuff from dub fans one FUNimations boards too, in addition to fans complaining that the script was "changed" and how they wish it wasn't as accurate.

They were talking so much about gender bias, so I just wanted to name a woman who could do a good Freeza XD

The Dragon Ball fanbase is now on the same terms as the Sonic the Hedgehog fanbase and Pokemon fabase. This does not make Blue happy at all. I bet there's also a lot of awful SPERGIN' "rapan mah childhood!!!11" comments too.

I think it's a bit too late for anything involving Kai to be burned in the memories of fans who have stuck to Z for the past 10 years.

Let's be honest: how many new fans do you think Kai will really create, and more importantly, how many Z fans are going to convert exclusively to Kai. From the looks of it, not enough to really make a difference.
