While you're probably right, seeing as how Kai's only getting the cable treatment for now, it's also set to air on CW. Sure, it won't bring in anywhere near the amount of fans that Z gathered while it ran on Toonami, but there's bound to be a good number of new fans brought in from Kai. For whoever they are, this will be their first experience hearing Freeza, which is always a good thing.jjgp1112 wrote:I think it's a bit too late for anything involving Kai to be burned in the memories of fans who have stuck to Z for the past 10 years.DemonRin wrote:I may have been exaggerating, but only by a hair.jjgp1112 wrote:That this is going to change the fanbase's destiny and his voice should be burned in our memories. Let's be honest: how many new fans do you think Kai will really create, and more importantly, how many Z fans are going to convert exclusively to Kai. From the looks of it, not enough to really make a difference.JulieYBM wrote: Think you can say that again in five, ten, and twenty years?
This is very exciting stuff indeed. I was disappointed to hear Freeza wasn't going to be recast upon Kai's initial English cast announcements, but this most certainly rectifies that (even if they have to retcon his voice in the first episode to do it). This also makes me wonder if they plan to do something with the Ginyu Force, Dodoria, or Zarbon. Likely not seeing as how this was an issue with Ms. Young's line-reading speed, but if they recasted the lot of them in Japan I guess that's an excuse to do it here too.
Or at least change the Ginyus' names to be more punny...
Re: Linda Young not to voice Freeza in the Dragon ball Kai dub?
We already know they're replacing the Whole Ginyu Special Corps, Zarbon, and they already replaced Dodoria in Raging Blast and there's a good chance that'll be carrying over.Char Aznable wrote:This is very exciting stuff indeed. The right choice. Psyched!

For some reason, I get the feeling that Vic Mignogna is going to be the new Freeza.

Man, this news is exciting! It really seems as though FUNimation is putting way more effort into Kai than Toei has ever done.

I honestly cannot imagine Vic playing Freeza at all.kaloosa wrote:For some reason, I get the feeling that Vic Mignogna is going to be the new Freeza.

Only because they're correcting some of the mistakes they made in the first place.Metalwario64 wrote:Man, this news is exciting! It really seems as though FUNimation is putting way more effort into Kai than Toei has ever done.

Heh, well they probably realized this was their big chance to rectify the dub and luckily they're pulling out all the stops to do so.

I think we all know Kelsey Grammer is the only right person for the job! >_>

Well, I guess you could say I'm not as irritated by inconsistencies as the average fan. I wouldn't mind 17 being recast so that Huber could be Freeza. It wouldn't give me a headache, personally. Quite the opposite, it would be music to my ears.SparkyPantsMcGee wrote:That logic is flawed. "Lets recast two people instead of one because Huber(in theory) would make a good Freeza!" Or, like they are doing, Funimation could keep Huber on 17 and recast some one for Freeza. That way we avoid confusion and headaches.TheBlackPaladin wrote:Then recast Android 17. No offense to any 17 fans out there, but the character's not nearly as interesting as Freeza (in my humble and certainly non-definitive opinion).penguintruth wrote:Huber would be an excellent choice, but he's already pretty prominent as Android 17.
A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

Eh, Chuck Huber wouldn't be a bad Freeza... I guess...

Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

You guys have no idea how badly I just wana tell you "HEY! THE NEW FREEZA IS PLAYED BY JOHNNY MYSTERYMAN!" Of course replacing that with his actual name.
But I will say, the choice is not an obvious one, it even surprised me, but only by a hair.
You guys'll really like it, it was a good pick.

Aaron Dismuke, obviously.

Can you at least say whether or not it's someone we have heard in a FUNi dub before, in any role of consequence? Or is it a new face unless you remember like every actor FUNi has ever used.DemonRin wrote:You guys have no idea how badly I just wana tell you "HEY! THE NEW FREEZA IS PLAYED BY JOHNNY MYSTERYMAN!" I just checked his ANN Page, and he hasn't got a single listing in any Dragon Ball property. But he has worked for FUNimation on other series.Gyt Kaliba wrote:Can you at least say whether or not it's someone we have heard in a FUNi dub before, in any role of consequence? Hmm...so he's probably a relatively new face at least. Still haven't got the foggiest, but it is nice to know it could be an actor I already know, so that if we get the name before we actually hear him, I can maybe form thoughts in my head.DemonRin wrote:I just checked his ANN Page, and he hasn't got a single listing in any Dragon Ball property.
