Alright then... Listen here, VegettoEX... If that is your REAL name. IT JUST SO HAPPENS THAT I...

Hey, just kidding. I'm going to say the same thing here that I said in the other thread where I kinda did the same thing to you. I sure feel silly. Going back and reading what I wrote, even I'm confused about where all that came from. I've got some personal issues that I'm afraid might be effecting my mood and perception (I'm not making an excuse here, just trying to explain where this absurdity came from). I want to say, though, that I really appreciate your long and detailed response. Especially when no response or even a simple, "Hey stupid, you're being crazy," would have done the trick. Even though I usually don't feel the way I felt the other day, its still nice to see you explain yourself anyway. It puts things in perspective and eliminates the desire to fill in the blanks with my own silly thoughts. That's not to say that I expect you to explain yourself all the time or even ever. I don't wish that of of anybody. You really handled my creating-things-to-argue-about with class. I can't promise this is the last time I'll go into Hypersensitive Loyalist Mode, but it's definitely something that I'll try even harder to avoid from here on out.

You also brought up some fantastic points that I hadn't thought about. The part about comparing it to the old dub... Well, that's something I hadn't considered. And you're right. Despite what FUNimation wants, it isn't fair to always compare Kai to Z. It can and should be looked at as an individual entity. I really understand where you're coming from.
You've declared that I am against all dubbing and am never satisfied with FUNimation's products. Both of these are false statements.

I'll be honest -- it's a really fucked-up position you put me in when you make accusations like that. As I've described on the podcast a couple times, it's like being backed up against the wall and being forced to say "I'M NOT RACIST! SEE, I HAVE A BLACK FRIEND!" I should not (and will not) counter-balance each and every single little claim I make about FUNimation's English dub by saying, "The whole 'Yajirobe-sounds-like-Kuririn with Mayumi Tanaka thing wears a little thin". I should not have to keep a list of negative things I've said about Japanese products to point over to every single time you want to dismiss a criticism I make about FUNimation's handling of something in hopes of you then seeing it as more "balanced".
I apologize- I regret writing the things I did. I didn't mean to put you into any position. I shouldn't expect you to have to explain every detail, and I don't expect you to keep a running tally to make sure you're balanced. In all honesty. I don't even wish you would. I wouldn't change a damn thing about how you run your site, and what you say in your podcast. Well.. maybe the word-filter, but you already know all about that :P.

And the thing where you're against dubbing (I'm assuming you're talking about my post on ToonZone)... You're not?

Like, really? I honestly thought you were. I remember a discussion we had a while back on another thread about how you didn't understand why people wouldn't switch to the original version of anything, instantly, when they found out it existed... Or something along those lines. I believe my response was something about the Mexican dub of Ed, Edd, and Eddy. Do you remember the one? Was I reading too much into things again?

To bring this back around... It looks like I went a little bonkers yesterday. Perhaps that was my beaten-wife syndrome again. I'm sorry for wasting your time with my, to put it politely, inane drivel, both on this thread and the surprised by actors thread.

Well, that's a strawman that very prominently used by anime fans to dismiss other peoples' opinions, but the number of people who actually hold that notion is vanishingly small.
Can I ask you a question? Have you posted/lurked through Anime forums? Because I have, and I've experienced this "notion" first hand.

Yes I have; much longer than you have, I'd wager. And while I don't deny that there are some people who have a blind belief that anything Japanese is automatically better, in my experience they're a pretty small minority. These days, most people in the English anime fan community are primarily dub fans. People who are primarily fans of the Japanese version are a minority, and the sort of people with some automatic "Japanese = better" belief are an even smaller minority. But an annoyingly large number of dub fans tend to label subs fan of any sort as thinking that "Japanese = better".

Mike, I went in listening to Episode 220 full-well that you, Meri, and Heath were going to nitpick on the things that really don't matter in the long run, and I'll admit, when you started "whining" about the inconsistency of the attack names, character names, the apparent shout-out to Team Four Star with Nappa's "I hate the media" line, and such, I was ready to just turn off the podcast and unsubscribe completely. I, too, felt as sick and tired as Inagaddadavida did about your point of view with the English production of practically anything Dragon Ball related.

But I didn't stop listening. I felt I just HAD to find out what were your other additional thoughts about Kai's stateside release.... and I was shocked. I actually started agreeing with a lot of the other thoughts you had. In fact, the good points really tended to outshine the nitpicky stuff that you mentioned. I was truly shocked that you actually approved of FUNi's treatment of Kai. I've gotta hand it to you, 'cause I was almost sure you were going to rip everything about it apart like you did with the Orange Bricks 3 1/2 years ago. Y'know, for such a big fanboy of Dragon Ball, you are one of the few smart and sane fans in the fandom - and I really am thrilled that even though you and I will have our differing opinions on the small things, we both agree that this release of Kai is damn good. :)
