Top 20 DBZ Fights

Post by DragonBoxZTheMovies » Sun Jun 06, 2010 1:14 am

The Dragon Ball series is known for it's fighting, particuarly DBZ which is based entirely around fighting. To pick the best fight out of the entire DBZ series is very difficult so here you can select your top 20. Remember this is DBZ Only

20. Goku and Vegeta vs. Gohan Buu
19. Goku (Super Saiyan 3) vs. Gotenks Buu
18. Goku vs. Nappa
17. Future Gohan vs. Jinzoningen 17 & 18
16. Spopovich vs. Videl
15. Bardock vs. Freeza's henchmen
14. Piccolo vs. Freeza
13. Gohan vs. Cell
12. Z Fighters vs. Broly (Please don't hurt me  )
11. Majin Vegeta vs. Goku
10. Goku vs. Freeza
9. Goku (Super Saiyan 3) vs. Janemba
8. Goku vs. Cell
7. Goku vs. Tullece's Henchmen
6. Goku (Super Saiyan 3) vs. Kid Buu
5. Piccolo vs. 17 and Cell
4. Z Fighters vs. Nappa
3.Goku vs. Cooler (Movie 5/8)
2. Goku and Piccolo vs. Raditz
1. Goku vs. Vegeta

I'm not entirely sure with this list. I'll make another one when I can be bothered.

EDIT: Here are some I forgot to mention:
Vegeta vs. Jeice
Chibi Trunks vs. Goten

Blasphamy! You didn't include Goku vs Piccolo Daimao, which is my #1.

EDIT: Sorry, I'm as blind as a bat and didn't read the whole post (DBZ ONLY)

I can't decide on the precise placement of twenty battles, but my top five are:

Goku vs Freeza
Senshi vs Nappa
Vegeta vs Goku
Goku vs Cell
Gohan vs Cell
I wipe it off the tile, the light is brighter this time, everything is 3D blasphemy.
My eyes are red and gold, the hair is standing straight up, this is not the way I picture me.
I can't control my shakes, how the hell did I get here? Something about this, so very wrong.
I have to laugh out loud, I wish I didn't like this. Is it a dream or a memory?

He can't include Daimao, because it's Top DBZ (I'm starting to hate Z) Fights.........
This is no fun, ot would be interesting to see some poll results from some official poll from Japan or America about fights in Dragon Ball.
It's from time to time in Jump manga. That really interests me, what majority of people consider as best, because what I like most from this series is what I written for countless times here.
FighterZ, Street Fighter 6, Mortal Kombat: Funky_Strudel
PS5: Dynamixx88
Trust me, I'm millenial and a designer.

Since top 20 is bit of an overkill I just went ahead and did a top 5 with a fairly in depth explanation for each.

Gohan Vs. The Lake
Boy howdy Gohan's first battle and was it ever a doozy. Who would have thought the 1st filler battle in the series would be one of the best canon or otherwise? He started off really confidently taunting the water beneath him by balancing atop a log as he nonchalantly admired a bird. I believe this is very subtle forshadowing to the events that unfolded in the Cell saga (which unfortunately did not live up to this battle.) It's hard to determine a clear winner here, while the lake failed to kill Gohan as it intended I have trouble claiming it lost, Gohan nerrowly escaped its wrath. I believe this is one of the few, if not only opponents Goku fled from. It's ashame we don't see more of this body of water outside of the occasional filler scene here and there.

Piccolo Vs. Umigame

A very early battle that sets the tone of the series well. Obviously Bulma knew Umigame was the right warrior to get behind as she took cover. There were many strong warriors to choose from on that island. She could have hidden behind Goku, Kuririn or Muten Roshi but ultimately she chose Umigame. We can only assume a fierce battle took place off screen seeing as how when we cut back to Umigame he had already fainted. Frankly I believe such an amazing battle really took away from the Piccolo and Goku Vs. Raditz fight just because a lot of the fanbase was still reeling over this previous struggle that took place a solitary episode ago.

Goku Vs. Yajarobe
I know you may be thinking I'm referencing the Dragon Ball battle here but no. This is an overlooked battle indeed. In one, just one fight scene we really get a sense of Yajarobe's benevolent mercy. When Goku was reeling from the Kaioken attack he used against Vegeta Yajarobe gives him a firm smack on the back obviously intending to destroy Son while he was down. This makes Goku scream in sheer terror and pain. We can only assume this was payback for steeling various meals from him throughout the Dragon Ball continuity.
Fortunately Yajarobe spares Goku's life by leaving him to be finished off by Vegeta and confidently struts away. It's very easy to notice how much Goku avoids Yajarobe after this event. Ask yourself when did these two ever really talk to each other in the Namek, Cell and Boo arcs? It's clear Son is very aware Yajarobe can snap at any given moment and destroy him.

Bulma Vs. Android 16's Bomb

Who would have thought we'd be seeing Bulma take on an Android in this saga? Here we see her charachter come full cirlce as she really develops here as a warrior. Many people see the Cell saga as Gohan coming into fruition as the Earth's savior but I really think Toriyama's true intentions were to give a subtle nod to Bulma and the fact that she is willing to tackle any enemy in her path, a far cry from the frightened young girl she was in Dragon Ball. Obviously Bulma won by a land slide and ultimitly ended up killing 16. One would have to wonder if she made an allience with Cell. We can only wonder if Toriyama intended to take the series in that direction later on. Imagine Gohan fighting the woman responsible for turning him into a SSJ2. In a way I suppose Bulma is the real villain in the Cell saga.

General Blue Vs. His Pedophilia Urges

Don't you dare for one second take this as some sort of twisted joke. I know you said only Z battles were allowed but I feel this caries over to Z in many ways. Now we all know Blue being a pedophile was an invention of Toei who knew they could do SO much more with his character then Toriyama could ever have dreamed. In "Exciting Interview 14" Toriyama stated this new development for Blue was incredibly intense and dark. He went on to claim he would have incorperated it into the manga had he not already killed the character off. So before I progress any further I think it's safe to assume this event is supported by Toriyama thus canon to the manga storyline.

Blue's pedophila comes into play when he meets a small boy in penguin village who he is naturally attracted to. Now I know many of you are shifting uncomfortably in your seats, this is an awkward topic and I don't blame you for a moment. However think back to all the times he could have taken advantage of Goku or Kuririn and didn't. When you can resist against your own sheer lust like this you have really defeated the strongest enemy of all.

Now of course you're all asking me what this has to do with Z. Well let me tell you, do you honestly think Goku and Kuririn would have NOT been mentally scarred during Z had Blue caved into his urges? Of course they would be. It's Blue's own strong sense of self control that saved planet Earth. Imagine this, Goku has the Genkai Dama in his hands ready to strike and suddenly he remembers Blue doing unspeakable acts, he loses all the energy he had gathered and falls from the sky. It's clear the main underlying hero in the series is General Blue for being a strong willed individual. We can only assume he was seeking therapy at the time and taking good care of himself both physically and mentally.
