Copying is a perfectly fine and logical way to learn how to draw a character or in a certain style. As you draw, you get to see those details and how they fall together. Copying's a good first step towards being able to do things freehand on your own.

Ever heard of "Chris Crocker"? That........ "guy"..... who is obsessed with Britney Spears and cries over her and shouts to everyone to leave her alone?!

Well... here's a Chris Crocker edition of a Broli fan.

Because Broli's hair is green when he unleashes his steroids.

Figured I would drop the signature I use elsewhere in here since I can't use it.

I loved the concept.

I got bored and combined the Japanese Kai logo with the English Z Kai Logo to make it look more complete. I also recolored the "O" to look more like a Dragon Ball in the original Z logo.

Hey thanks! Yeah I know, it needs some refining, but I didn't feel like spending any more hours to it than I already did :P

So, desperate for an edited release of Dragon Ball Z Kai to share with my young siblings (and knowing I'll never get that), I decided to take matters into my own hands. I've been DVRing episodes of Dragon Ball Z Kai at my mom's house, and using my DVD Recorder to get the video on DVD. The quality isn't great, but hey, it's for my little brothers, they're not going to notice. And before I get ostracized for creating a bootleg for personal use, I have already supported the official release of DBZ Kai. I'm no freeloader.

Anyway, I could just hand them some DVDs with the episode numbers written in sharpie, but I'm a little more eccentric than that. And personally, part of what I love about owning a TV show is the box art and packaging. I want this show to mean something to them, like it does to me. So what I've gone ahead and done was create some custom DVD covers for my little project. Like I said, I want this little project to have value to them, but I also really enjoy the art of design. I'm not very good at it, but like Goku says, with enough training even the little guys can be great. These are the reasons I have taken the time to do this.

I only have three done so far, but I'm planning on going as long as Kai does. The clip art for the first two are almost all Burst Limit artwork. But I went into Tenkaichi 3, Raging Blast, and Custom artwork for the third set. Really, all I have done is taken clip art and arranged them on the cover. It wasn't incredibly hard, but it was the design that I'm proud of. I also intentionally left the background white to save on ink costs. The episode screencaps are downloaded from Kanzentai, and most the descriptions are either from Kanzentai or Wikipedia (with alterations to attack, character, and location names to remain consistent with the broadcast dub). Although I did write a few of my own.

Here they are:

Higher resolution compilation (ugg, it was resized by Tinypic to be smaller)

Here they are in action:

Why'd these pics come out so yellow?

Very awesome! I always wanted to do the whole custom cover thing, but my printer would never print in the right dimensions and it'd either awkwardly cut off or not show everything...
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
Oh, Jesus. It wasn't easy. I had to wrestle with the printer the whole way. It was a trial and error process. You should have seen my pile of crumpled up paper. Even still I ended up with a little clipping but it was all I could do. I'm going to try to move the actual image over to the left next time, and see what that does for me.

But I know what you're saying. It's hard to get the damn printer to cooperate. what sucks even more is my printer won't show me the edge of the paper till it's halfway done, so I had to waste a half-page of ink before I realized that it wasn't working out and could cancel each time.

Very nice work Inna, although the third case looks a bit weird wiht the the different art styles.

I think there are such options in DVD burner programs, where you can create your own covers in templates (upload the picture and it will automatically fit). Then you cut the white paper off.

Those look really nice Inada..da..ina..buddy!

You might want to retool Bulma on the third case though, she's looking pretty out of place.

Whoa! I'm impressed Innagadadavida, actually it inspired me to make my own cover of it. I may possibly do something similar with my DVD's and let my cousin have a few episodes. But here's my simple cover:

Although it did take awhile to get the letters in volume and episodes to match the Kai logo. Actually, it looks like the DBox logo due to it being similar colors.

That's actually pretty good Franky, except for the cut out job on the Goku and Vegeta.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I wanted to also add Piccolo in there; but, I couldn't find a decent picture in that style at the correct size.

I obviously took Goku and Vegeta from the Japanese Blu-Ray boxes 1 and 2 respectively.
But, I worked with what I could find.
