ARDBZ Appreciation Thread

Post by TimeCrash4 » Thu Jun 10, 2010 3:29 pm

Ok sure it's not edited as good as TFS (plus any other arguments you may have as to why abridged is better) but that doesn't stop me and countless others enjoying this series.

I was surprised that this doesn't have a thread of its own as it deserves it as it's one of the most enjoyable parodies I've seen. So for any one who wants to praise this series etc then why not here.

That would be cool. :D

But if not a lot of people has heard of it, then maybe that's why there isn't a thread for it, not to be rude. Is it worth checking out?

It stands for Alternate Reality Dragon Ball Z. The forum member Gozar makes the episodes. I've watched a bit of it myself, and I find bits and pieces of it to be funny.

Oh, yeah. I remember it now. I've watched a few episodes. It's alright. Gozar's Vegeta sounds a lot like TFS's Vegeta to me.

The episodes are sometimes poorly edited, but they're still funny anyway. My favourite episode would definately be the Saiyan kindergarden one. :P

I'd say watch a couple of episodes. They're not very long (the majority of them) so you could watch a few then decide for yourself.

I thoroughly enjoy ARDBZ. The first few episodes before the Buu saga were killer. Kindergarten and Super 13 have been unmatched so far. I really think Gozar shines when the characters do whatever in the own canonical parameters he's set for his "alternate" universe. Piccolo and Celine Dion (Lord Slug and the ending where he promotes his CD I still rewatch to this day), Mystic Gohan's undeserved hatred, Parenting with Vegeta, all these things. It's great to see what he comes out with since there's no way to predict the antics. Radditz killing Cell? I laughed at the sheer insanity of it, but the execution was even better.

Wow, Piccolo jacked the quotable lines up to eleven today.

Heck, this episode probably has what I've seen as the best parts of the series; the juggle of the fandom references ("This could be the start of a realllly bad yaoi."), the unintended joke fodder in the actual footage ("Spirit bomb kills Gohan", "GRASS IS FUN!"), and the theme of the episode ("Sepia tone = epiphany" almost beats Thanksgiving Freeza. Almost. I was momentarily speechless after that one).

Just like Dragon Ball since Chapter #4.

Not to be rude, but in my honest opinion, ARDBZ is alright at best...

Why?

The editing is very poor. I know you use a basic program (Windows Movie Maker if I'm not mistaken), but you could always get a new editing program, whether it's free or not.

There aren't too many people who voice the characters besides you. I mean, you can only voice so many characters. I think you should look around for some new people who are atleast decent at voice acting and ask them if they would be interested in voicing in your series.

The jokes aren't always that funny. Don't get me wrong, there are some pretty funny jokes in the series, but they don't show up that often. Also, I sometimes find previously used material in some episodes.

So overall, it's pretty alright. But in my honest opinion, this series has a lot of potential, I just feel that you don't try as hard as you can.
