I'll sometimes do that as well, but then again I hardly ever speak Dragon Ball terms out aloud.Brakus wrote:

Re: "DragonBall Z Kai" TV Broadcast Talkback
Just so you know, "jin" is pronounced jeen, not jin or ghin.
And for me, I'd rather them not use it at all than teach people an incorrect pronunciation. I might just punch someone if they start complaining that I'm pronouncing Gokuh's last name "wrong".
I'm sick of the bitching I have to endure just for saying Kaio-ken, Saiyan, et cetera, correctly.
"They say it that way in the dub, don't they? Then it's correct! They wouldn't pronounce it wrong on the official English dub!"
So, you're basically saying there's nothing wrong with pronouncing the English word "soap" sup...?Big Momma wrote:I know all that, and I am talking about the Japanese version. I just personally don't hear any difference. I guess I just don't care that much about it. The only difference is the difference between an "oh" and an "uh", I personally don't really see a big difference between either of those. Quite frankly, the fact that they used "Son" in the first place would be more exciting and outweigh any negativity of them pronouncing it wrongly.

Re: "DragonBall Z Kai" TV Broadcast Talkback
I think the way Yaji said it, "You're the man, Son!' it did mean like Son as in his last name. It just sounds weird to use man and son together like that otherwise. And I agree, it SHOULD be pronounced SEWN, cause that's how it's pronounced. And before anyone says who cares about a name, can we remember that SON GOKU IS THE MAIN CHARACTER. Usually in movies or whatnot, no matter what change they do to everybody else, the main character usually gets to be as close as possible to the original. They might call Kuririn 'Krillin' and change some attacks, but c'mon, GOKU is the Friggin star of the show, man.
I'm also glad they finally pronounced Kaioh Ken right. I mean the inconsistency always bothered the hell out of me. Kaioh Ken is Kaioh Sama's technique. So why they hell is it not either Kaioh Ken/Kaioh or King Kai/King Kai Ken? They might still stick with King Kai, but luckily they pronounced Kaioh Ken the right way.

It seems that they have now decided that they don't want Kienzan in the TV dub anymore... When Krillin creates his Kienzan, he just says "Here... Goes!!"

But I don't think he said Kienzan in the Japanese version either. I could be remembering wrong, though.

I'm pretty sure he says it in the Japanese version. But the mouth flaps were pretty quick, and saying "kienzan" incredibly fast sounds just weird.
Not the biggest deal in the world, though I would have liked to hear Strait say it a second time.

I wonder if Taioken is used instead of Solar Flare in the uncut version? Man.. this is gonna be killing me until september.
I really hope Shunkanido is used instead of instant transmission down the line..now that I wanna see.

Well they retained Kienzan and many other attack names, I guess time would tell but I'd prefer if they kept it as accurate as they are now. Going back to the dub name would be..well..wrong.

Well, "Instant Transmission" isn't a bad translation of "Shunkan Idō".Daimo-Rukiri wrote:Well they retained Kienzan and many other attack names, I guess time would tell but I'd prefer if they kept it as accurate as they are now. Going back to the dub name would be..well..wrong.

I believe the "good" translation is "Instantaneous Movement".Goku100xKamehameha wrote:Then what's the good translation?

Re: "DragonBall Z Kai" TV Broadcast Talkback
You have 瞬間 (Shunkan) meaning "instant", "moment" or "second" and 移動 (Idō) meaning "removal", "migration" or "movement". It also should be noted than Shunkan Idō is just a general term for "teleportation". The English definition for "transmit" is "to send or convey from one person or place to another".Goku100xKamehameha wrote:Then what's the good translation?
So yeah, "Instant Transmission" isn't a bad translation, but not the best one either. That's why I haven't added it to my "dub/sub attack name comparison thread".

But, ironically, instant transmission is closer to the original title than Teleportation.Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:But "Teleportation" and "Instant Transmission" have the same number of syllablesohaimynameiserik wrote:Mouth flaps, bro. What? "Teleportation" is a direct translation of the original name.Mewzard wrote:
