Did Goku lose his ability to go Super Saiyan 3?

This may sound a bit crazy, but when Goku fought Buu he was having issue maintaining SSj3 due to his living body. Later on during the Spirit Bomb struggle Dende wishes Goku back to full power to finish off Buu but Goku doesn't even go SSj3.

So why is it? Did Goku not need SSj3 to have the Spirit Bomb kill Buu or could his living body no longer handle the ability to go SSj3?

Beecoose, SSJ3 takes too much 3n3rgy. So it won't be ideal for some power struggle.......... whatever, at the end I simply don't know, because I'm not thinking about these kinds of things, I should stop try to answer them:D

His SSJ2 gave him enough power and he effortlessly hurled the Genki Dama at Boo. Had he needed any more, I'm sure he would have gone SSJ3.

Why spend the extra effort maintaining SSj3 while trying to kill Boo with the Genki Dama when he can use a lower transformation that he mastered years beforehand so that he can put all of his focus into throwing the Genki Dama?

Like others have said already, Super Saiyan was enough. Pushing past it would have been counterproductive.

Wha-wha-wha-what? That would be complete overkill. It'd defeat the purpose of Vegeta opting against bringing Gohan or Gotenks in to kill Buu.

What I'm referring to, is a move in Budokai 3 where SSJ3 Goku absorbs a Genki-dama and then uses the Exploding Dragon fist.

Yeah, so I guess everyone agrees, that SS was enough for Goku.
But even still, I think SS3 was underrated. IMO, it would have been nice to see a bit more of SS3.
I know that Goku struggled to maintain his SS3 state (while living), but it would have been nice to see more use of it, like his previous SS forms.

Goku unnecessarily using a terrible form that does the opposite of what he wants to do would be completely moronic, on his part. That, and no one looks at SSJ3 as being a definitive SSJ form. It was almost as much of a wild card as USSJ2 was.

Also, if you look back at Movie 7, you need to have a calm, pure heart to handle a Genki Dama, which is why he couldn't handle it as an SSJ in that movie. By the Boo saga, Gokû had already gone through the RoSaT training that made him feel calm and at ease in SSJ form, but it's unknown if he did anything like that for SSJ2, and he most definitely didn't for SSJ3, given that he couldn't even sustain it for long periods. So he probably wouldn't have been able to handle the Genki Dama in such a situation.

Of course, that's taking Movie 7 into account, which isn't even canon. So who knows.
