English-Dubbed "Over the Star" Request
I really liked the English-dubbed version of "Over the Star" that just aired a few minutes ago. I was wondering if, when the next Blu-Ray or DVD set is released, somebody would mind making it available for download somehow? I was told that since the audio mix will be 5.1, it's possible to isolate just the audio tracks that have the music and get a clean version that way. I wouldn't think that would be illegal, either, considering the English version cannot be sold...somebody feel free to correct me. Assuming it is legal, though, would somebody be willing to do that?
A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

I was wondering the same thing. Someone will do that eventually.
Re: English-Dubbed "Over the Star" Request
It's unfortunate that they can't/don't release a soundtrack of the dubbed songs.
Trans rights, now!

Very. I can't remember where I found it, but I once read on a chat forum with Caitlin Glass (a voice actress at FUNimation known primarily for One Piece, Oruan High School Host Club, and One Piece, and one of the more common dub-song singers) that a fan asked if FUNimation would ever release a CD of their dubbed themes. She responded back that they can't legally do that because their contracts specically forbid making an English version of the song for sale--it can only be for the express purpose of dubbing within the context of the actual anime. For that reason, they're not even allowed to credit the English singers. That's kind of stupid if you ask me...either the fans can correctly guess the singer or the singer can come out and publicly say that they sung something, but for some reason they can't actually be credited. My best guess is that maybe the Japanese companies don't want people interested in buying the music to go look for a certain song thinking that the English singer is the *actual* singer. Still, that's kind of stupid. It is just as stupid as when English voice actors couldn't be credited for their specific roles (a rule that has since changed). You could always credit it like, "Original Version by: X, English Version by: Y."SonEric84 wrote:It's unfortunate that they can't/don't release a soundtrack of the dubbed songs.
I think there's a loophole where you can release dubbed songs if you re-do the instrumentals as well. The English Sailor Moon theme and the German openings and endings to DBZ all recieved CD releases. Too bad they can't be released with the original instrumentals, though. English-dubbed songs are pretty much the exclusive purpose I have for using YouTube video-to-wav converters. I don't think that's illegal...they're not going to sell the English versions, after all.

They would have to dub the entire song. Remember, all the insert songs, as well as the Opening and Closing songs are full-fledged songs, we only hear about half of them during the actual show. I doubt the guys at Funi bothered anything further than the portion of the song used in the show.

You're right, nor are they allowed to. See my revised post above (I revised it to explain the legality of dubbing songs, and didn't know you posted while I was revising).Coola Yagami wrote:They would have to dub the entire song. So they can't release a CD. Are they allowed to put clean versions of the songs on the "special features" section of the DVD?
Re: English-Dubbed "Over the Star" Request
Yes, once the DVD comes out, a clearer version will be ripped. Stay patient until then.
Anyway, I tried making out the lyrics the best I could. There are two parts I'm unsure on, so if anybody has ANY idea what she's singing, please say something.
Over the stars, I'm taking lead
Like a single star that shoots across the sky, you see me
When doubt's in view, I'm watching over you and try to keep you safe
Oh, I hope you'll find a way to the sky
You are the star, you can (take?) wings
High above the earth, and let you see your (smile? Or it could be "let your ____ fly") in a dream
Open your heart, listen to my voice, let me show you the way
And together we will stay in the sky
And together we will stay... in the sky

Hmmm... Well, I already do it for the One Piece community, may as well do it for you guys too!TheBlackPaladin wrote:I really liked the English-dubbed version of "Over the Star" that just aired a few minutes ago. Well, since I had a buddy of mine record the episode for me, here's a subtitled version of the TV airing. I also increased the sound so you could hear it better. If you guys want an mp3 of the the airing so far, please say so and i'll post that here too!
