Do you think there was any saga done better in the anime?
Personally, I think the Buu saga was possibly better in the anime. It's hard to judge, since I never got the chance to read it as a weekly serial or watch it as a weekly show, but I felt a lot of the fights in the manga felt a little rushed over. Like Toriyama was running for the home stretch. Although, having only just finally read Buu saga in the manga, I was surprised at how many of the little scenes I expected to be filler were from it, like Goku and Buu biting each other and such.
Also, certain things like after Buu broke out of the Room of Spirit and Time, and Kuririn made a hopeless effort to stop him... and when Mr Satan was confronted by the psycho in the kitchen rather than straight after Bay's shooting. I thought it better portrayed how horrible the situations were.

The 21st World Tournament was great in the anime. And the 23rd.
Re: Do you think there was any saga done better in the anime?
If you even consider the manga having a Great Saiyaman arc I'd say that. I really loved that filler, The Great Saiyaman stuff is some of my favorite material in the entire show (yet it belongs in my least favorite saga, weird eh?)

Don't bite my head off, because I know it made all the strength debates different (omg powerlevelz!!), but the Buu saga really was handled better in the anime. The in-fight filler mostly looked phenomenal, and they finally figured out how to handle entertaining b-plots. This also includes all the hilarious pre-Buu additions, like Saiyaman and Budokai filler. The manga version of this material is pretty sparse to begin with.
I'll also say the original Dragon Ball hunt and the Saiyan arc were much better with filler.

I like how they padded pretty much every "Time skip" sequence in the Dragon Ball/Z anime.
Like before the 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai, the Saiyans arrive, the Artificial Humans Arrive, and after the 7 year skip.

I think I'll be buying assorted Dragon Ball things for the rest of my life.

The Saiyan arc. And little bits and pieces of others, mostly really important scenes, like Gohan's SSJ2 transformation.
Otherwise, the manga usually handled it a little better.

Saiyan arc. I pretty much loved all the filler in that arc.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaw I just thought of writing that!Booney wrote:The Garlic Jr saga.
I think that the Cell Games Arc (Prior to the actual Cell Games starting) was made better. I liked Goku's search for the Dragonballs, Mr. Satan, and Gohan fighting Tao Pai Pai like his father did. And I liked Goku trying to solve puzzles too.

I thought the Saiya-jin arc was better in the anime. It felt so sparse and short in the manga. Also the Great Saiyaman stuff. Like Blue, that's some of my favorite material, but it was aborted far too quickly in the manga. Hell, I would have liked for it to have gone on for several more episodes in the anime. Or even for the entire rest of the series!

A lot of the fights in the Buu Saga I find more enjoyable in the anime as well.
Gohan vs. Dabura
Goku vs. Majin Vegeta
Vegetto vs. Super Buu (the filler base part)
Goku vs. Kid Buu (especially the filler SS2 part)

Re: Do you think there was any saga done better in the anime?
I think the latter portions of the Buu saga (Gohan returns all the way to the end of the series) were much more entertaining and much better drawn than the manga. I also felt Toriyama rushed the Buu saga in the manga, but there is some fluid and detailed fight animation (both canon and filler) and thanks to the music and voice acting, it felt like there was more at stake and that the characters were at their last rope in the animated version.
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.
Re: Do you think there was any saga done better in the anime?
Am I the only one who thought the Boo arc's pseudo alternative ending was about 100x better then the official one? Y'know the one where Goku is thrown a huge party and everyone is relaxing and enjoying each others company. The moment that really got me was when Vegeta was sitting there eating his food and Boo was drooling over his shoulder, he smirks and offers it to Boo. It's such a far cry from insane mad man "Saiyan Blood Beat You Down" Vegeta in the Saiyan arc. You kind of get a sense that he's come to fully accept this place as home and these people his friends. (Well maybe he doesn't consider Boo his "friend" really, but everyone else.)
I don't mean to turn this into the "Your favorite filler MOMENT" thread this episode just came to mind and I wanted to share it.

The Saiyan arc. I felt like the Manga rushed through it a bit and the fillers were nice.
Re: Do you think there was any saga done better in the anime?
The Saiyan arc. Aside from a few eps, I loved all the filler there. It also made the time gap feel almost a year long instead, while the manga felt like a two-three weeks.

Although I will say that just having Gotenks show straight back up all beaten is a lot cooler than when you saw it. It made it hilarious.

I'd have to go for the Saiyan Arc as well. It seemed longer than in the manga, which is what it needed frankly, and some of the filler with Gohan surviving in the wilderness and the Z-Senshi fighting the fake Saiyans added...what's the word I'm looking for? Impact?...
Anyway, yeah, that's my 2 cents.

Re: Do you think there was any saga done better in the anime?
In all honesty, I can't say the Saiyan arc was handled better in the anime.
The filler in it was just too..boring. Every time I watch Dragon Box 1, I have to skip past all of those filler episodes like Gohan with the orphans, or the fake Saiyans. I just can't watch those.
However, I will say the Cell arc was done better in the anime.
Not the whole thing entirely, but more specifically the Cell Games.
I'll always love the scene in the manga in which Gohan goes SSJ2 with the "snap" going across the page. The anime, however, just made that scene seem more epic, for lack of a better word.
That's just what I think.

Re: Do you think there was any saga done better in the anime?
If were talkin DBZ, Saiyan arc by far , most of the filler had Toriyama written all over it. From little charming bits like Piccolo stroking Gohan's head as he slept, to Yamucha the baseball player, most of this filler added rather than just padded.
I don't know if it's partly because Toriyama got tired of working extra hard to contribute to the anime and give Toei ideas for filler. I'm leaning more on Toei just stopped caring as they knew they had a cash cow on there hands anyhow. For crying out loud, WTF were they thinking at times? We get a lot of creative filler during the year gap for the Saiyan training, but for THREE FREAKIN YEARS before the cyborgs arrive, all we get is Vegeta training and Goku learning to drive?! Yet we get 10 episodes of filler wasted on that shitty Garlic jr arc?!
On the whole, DRAG-ON-BALL ZZZZZ was born after the defeat of Vegeta and never looked back. In fact, to me, the Dragon Ball anime and the Saiyan arc of DBZ felt like they both were the same show, despite toei slapping the Z on there.
