Favourite English Dubbed Song

Post by DragonBoxZTheMovies » Fri Jun 18, 2010 1:44 am

As you know, Funimation dubbed the openings and endings of Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball GT and Dragon Ball Kai as well as the inserts of Kai. (Only one has been dubbed at this point: 'Over the Star'.) So which one was your favourite?
I was quite impressed with the 4th GT ending (Machine Gun).

I've always been a big fan of Funimation's Dragonball Opening dub.

I wish Funi would have dubbed Head-Cha-La, but it never happened. :/

My thoughts and post is pretty much the same as Cableguy15. The original Dragon Ball theme dubbed is my favourite. Done very well. Dan Dan would have to be my second favourite.

Would have LOVED it if FUNi dubbed Cha-la, at least for the Dragon Box, but we will never be seeing that ever.

Tough question, as they're all done really well. Seriously, FUNimation does the best dubbed Anime songs. Anyways, I'd have to say it's a tie between "Romantikku Ageru yo" and DAN DAN Kokoro Hikareteku". I would even say that they're on par with the originals.

The Creative Products Corp version of "Cha-La Head Cha-La": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYYxjLoVbks

Not kidding. This is the only thing they did right, other than keeping the Japanese BGM.

Ah, yes. I remember that dubbed song. I downloaded it YEARS ago. I had no idea where it was from or just a fandub. It's actually really good. Too bad FUNi never made their own. I don't know why, but it almost sounds to me like Julian singing it.

I like Kageyama's English versions of his theme songs, because they're still Kageyama goodness. Though they're inferior to his original Japanese songs, and despite being a native English speaker, I can barely make out the lyrics. :?

But as for actual songs used in dubs, I'm fond of FUNi's version of Romantic Ageru Yo. For a while, I even preferred it to the original Japanese song, though not anymore.

How could I forget about that song? Best English Head Cha La ever. I can barely make out the lyrics to Hironobu Kageyama's English version and don't even get me started on the fandubs.

Ah~ That song brings back such fond memories of 1998. :D That right there is my favorite. Though Jimi Tunnel's Makafushigi Adventure! is probably number two.

Goddamn, I hate Kageyama's English versions. I'll never understand why people like those--the lyrics barely make sense, even if you somehow manage to decipher them, and Kageyama's performance isn't even anywhere near that of the original. I'd rather have the French theme song. Okay, maybe I wouldn't go that far, but still, every time someone is all "DIS SHOULD BE DE OFFICIAL ENGLISH OPENING", it annoys the hell out of me.

How do the lyrics barely make any sense? They resemble an actual translation, and they're decently comprehensible... Are you complaining about the lyrics of the Japanese version?

Breaking through the shining clouds
I'm gonna fly away (fly away)
Spreading through my body, feel the power through my soul

Kicked in the face, this earth is mad
as a fire brigade (fire brigade)
Can't you feel it building up for her to blow?

If there ever was a dinosaur
in a mound of icicles,
I would wanna train it to ride a ball

Cha-la head-cha-la
No matter - if ever anything could happen,
nothing can stop me now
Cha-la head-cha-la
Oh, my heart just keep sparking up like a ball of flame
Oh yes, it make me fired up

Cha-la head-cha-la
Got so much space in my burning heart now
I'll take it up with all the world
Cha-la head-cha-la
Smiling away, away today, I'm ultra Z
Aiaiaiaiai...Sparking!

Yeah, it's the Japanese lyrics that make little sense.

I'm thinking ThunderPX either has only seen incorrect lyrics, or has never looked up the translation of Cha-la Head-cha-la.

I can't see this due to the ABGroupe blocking it but i'm assuming it's the Phillipine version of the song and if so, I have a version that a member (His name escapes me but I've mentioned him before and I know he's been banned off of youtube) here removed the background music they created and then edited the original BGM into the file. I know i've sent the file to Big Momma before so if anyone wants it, just say so. Let the work of a good man live on!

To speak of my favourite dubbed songs, i'd say I like all of them but the ones I really like are 'Over The Stars', 'I'll Give You Romance' and 'Bit by Bit' because I feel in all of those, the vocal performance is far stronger than the original.

Sounds like what I did with Hiroki Takahashi's English version of Makafushigi Adventure!. Can I get a copy of that song, ThegreatPirateKing? Sounds like it'd be good. :D

This one?

I listen to it from time to time, and always think that this should of been the definitive English Z opening (with maybe the end part of the song removed).
