Fair enough, and I did say that there certainly is similarity to Newstone in a few of the lines. But nowhere near to the point that I'd personally get them mixed up, not to my ears. Newstone sounded female, this new one so far sounds almost sexless.

The new voice is better than the ladies, and is not itself another lady.

That's all I wanted.

It's also as far as I'm willing to say until I hear more. I just know it's better. Anything beyond that will be cherries on top.

Y'all built yourselves up way too much for this!

Come on, it was a bunch of PR that came directly from the ACTORS.

I personally just continue to be stunned by how watchable, (relatively) well-acted, and (absolutely) well-scripted this dub is... and by the fact that it's coming from the exact same people who produced such a bad dub the first time around.

Granted, the fact that they're pushing this dub as being accurate might have led people to think that. I don't know. But just the fact that they were replacing the voice in the first place seemed to imply they were going to do something different with it. Otherwise, why replace it? But instead, just like the TV censoring, we've suddenly jumped back in time to 13 years ago. I have to say, I'm enjoying it on that basis alone. I've been watching that clip. Chris Ayers and Doc Morgan sound so much like Pauline Newstone and Doc Harris that it might as well be the Ocean dub, and that does elicit certain pangs of nostalgia. But it still doesn't make any damned sense.
Bingo. The issue isn't so much the quality of the voice but rather the bizarre throwback. People walked in expecting something new, which wasn't unjustified given the situation. Hearing something that's so new it wraps right the hell around into old elicits something like .

It's definitely a funny situation. "It's not old Freeza! It's old old Freeza!" I think people would be less WTF about it if it actually were a totally brand new voice that just plain sucked. Like if they gave Freeza a Popeye voice or something. People would be "That's terrible!" but they wouldn't be in shock at the situation. Here's it's more "It...might be good...but WTF!" It's like FUNi was playing games with us.

It would be the equivalent of Christopher Nolan saying "We're going to do something totally new with the third Batman movie. We're going into a crazy direction you'll never anticipate." Then everybody starts talking and getting this image of what the new Batman is going to be like only to end up in the theater and see Adam West and Burt Ward. I don't think there's anything wrong with the old Batman show but it would be a really surreal experience for the audience.

Oh, please...I hate it when people say that. That's just so close-minded. I'm not too big on the new voice either FROM WHAT I HEARD, but what I heard was eight words. That's not enough to judge anything. Enough for initial reactions, most definitely, but final judgments? No way.

A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

Watch what Sabat and Schemmel actually say (or maybe more appropriately, DON'T say) in the video.

YOU GUYS READ SO MUCH INTO THIS.

If they'd said nothing at all about Freeza's recasting you'd all be doing backflips of joy right now.

I think we'd all be apathetic with a side of "ha ha the fuck?"

Y'know...listening to the clip again...

Am I the only one who thinks Freeza sounds kinda like Cobra Commander now?

I will jump to the defense of die hard Ryusei Nakao fans however, since I'm certainly a huge fan myself. Some "insider" made the bold mistake of hyping this new voice up, telling fans this would be the English equivalent of Ryusei Nakao.

So count me in on being surprised at this development, surprised, not disappointed. Since what I heard did not make my ears bleed nor did it make Freeza sound nonthreatening or like a joke. I just didn't hear this "English Nakao", but a potentially good English voice for the character.

Ryusei Nakao is to Freeza as Masako Nozawa is to Son Goku, both voices are literally a PERFECT fit for the characters. The best you can hope for in an English dub for those two is that they can be done justice, they'll just never be topped.

For comparisons sake, here's a Youtube clip of Newstone doing the line.

Sounds female , though the delivery is better than anything Young ever did with the character.

Oh it happened already? Any clips?

EDIT: Never mind, heard it, didn't like that much... I hope it'll get deeper at least.

As usual, I was late to the party... -_-

This new Freeza does sound like Young, but there's something makes it feel better and I can't tell what it is. Still, it's only a line and we can't make a fair judgment.

He does however, remind me of Frank Welker's Rasp from Dino Riders.

That voice sounds way more feminine than the new Freeza.

Man, I'm pretty disappointed. I was hoping that they would've moved more towards a Ryuusei Nakao style of voice. This recast seems unnecessary since it seems to be almost the same voice! I'll wait until I hear more in the next episode but judging by this it would have been better to keep Linda Young...

Well it's nice to see everyone calming down now and realizing Chris Ayres only said one line. Personally for me, after I heard the new voice, I got goosebumps. He made Freeza sound creepy without making you cringe from delivery. I won't say anymore since it was just one line, but I'm really looking forward to the next episode. Also, I'm going to wait until around episode 23+, then we should really see what Chris can do. If my memory serves me correctly, it's around the time where Freeza is fighting Nail. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

So yeah...can't wait for episode 20, my overall opinion is still simmering :D.

Sample From Twitter wrote:@Daxdiv Out of curiosity, I decided to check out the DaizEX message boards to check out the poster's opinion on Freeza's new voice. POPCORN TIME!

@SketchDub Heh heh the Daizex reaction was priceless. So many "done!"s. Judging a voice from a few lines of dialogue is pretty short-sighted.

@funimation Remember back when people communicated face to face? We were more polite then.
Ya' know how there's a perceived image of boards like GameFAQs?

Maybe next time a little less spectacle and embarrassing-caricatures of ourselves, please, everyone. Just a tiny request.

It really is apalling how close-minded most people on this board can be.
