I have to say, I'm really liking this dub so far. I mean, I absolutely detested Funimation's "Remastered" version all around, but this time? It seems like they're putting in some extra effort.

For one thing, Goku's VA is putting a lot of emphasis into how much strain tends to be put on him in the series. Take the Triple Kaio-ken scene against Vegeta for instance. Damn did he do a great job convincing the viewer that it took a huge effort just to keep his body together. What's more, he can instantly go into Goku's calm or humorous natures without a problem. So I'm liking the versatility.

Sabat's Vegeta really bothered me in the Remastered version. I thought he did a great job in the initial release of Funi's dub as Vegeta, but in remastered his voice was way too strained and outright annoying. This time around his performance is much better without too much of that sand papered throat that bothered the crap out of me before, though I was kind of disappointed to see they kept "Over 9,000!". I mean, Kai is supposed to be faithful to the manga, right? Maybe Funi didn't get the memo. I pray they don't recycle lines again and have Bulma say that she's known Goku since he was five. This is Funi's fourth time dubbing the series, correct? You think they would've changed that by now.

The only downside is Piccolo's voice in this dub. I wish they could just get Scott McNeil in there, his portrayal of Piccolo was brilliant in my opinion. In this dub, Piccolo's voice sounds exactly like Sabat's normal voice that you'd hear in an interview... really underwhelming. :/

I also have my doubts about Gohan's new VA. Sure, they can pull off scared little kid, but what about the later versions of Gohan (Namek - Cell Saga)?

Otherwise, I think this dub's been done pretty good so far. The censoring is to be expected, and quite honestly isn't even that bad.

In the home release the line is correctly "over 8,000", and we've talked about it in this very thread. Maybe you didn't get the memo.

Maybe he didn't have the home release.

Pretty much what Goku100xKamehameha posted, I didn't know.

And please forgive me for not reading over 162 pages to see if I got something wrong in a quick opinion post based off what I saw on Tv.

No need to give Cable a hard time. I mean, just because the home release did get it right, FUNi still wussed out and did "over 9,000" on the broadcast version. Just because there is an uncut version doesn't mean the TV version shouldn't have some accountability, and that's obviously the version he saw.

Question.

I missed most of the episodes this week so I'm catching up with the reruns right now, and I'm on the episode where everyone goes to the hospital...and there was this insert song playing in the background when they were recovering everyone's bodies..so I'm like, WTF? It sure ain't one of the only three insert songs in DBZ. But I never watched Kai until now, so was it a song used in the Japanese version that FUNi just dubbed? Or did FUNi add that song themselves (unlikely)? What's it called, and anyone know who's singing the dub version?

Not once did I say having it on TV was the right thing to do, or that it shouldn't have any accountability.

I'm saying it's been discussed already in this thread, and others. He could have read rather than blindly joining the board and posting whatever.

But I mean hell, I did the same thing, so whatever.

Just had me peeved that somebody would criticize FUNimation on a mistake that they actually fixed. Especially in a condescending way such as "maybe they didn't get the memo".

The song is called "Over the star" and was used in the Japanese version(in Japanese of course. FUNi dubbed the song for their version of Kai though, as you are aware).

Kai has its own set of vocal songs (some of which have been used in the show). And DBZ has more than just three insert song. Just so you know.

Shura-Iro no Senshi, Mind Power~Ki~, and Unmei no Hi~Tamashii tai Tamashii~...that's three songs. The original Dragonball had more, but those are the only insert songs in DBZ... :?

You're forgetting Fly High (episode 46), BP∞ (Battle Point Unlimited) (episode 120), and Ore ga Yaranakya Dare ga Yaru (Instrumental Version) (episode 289).

I don't understand the complaints about the number of insert songs in Kai vs DBZ, just comes off as another reason to dislike Kai just "because it's not DBZ". If anything DBZ could of used a few more songs to liven up it's pace a bit.

Does anyone know if its true or not that Stephanie Young will be voicing Android 18 in DBKai? On Wikipedia and DBZ Wiki says she is.

Well then you just answered you own question. 95% of the time if those are your "sources" for Dragon Ball info, they are wrong.

From what I can find there doesn't appear to be anything saying she's casted in Dragonball Kai yet. I checked Anime News Network and her Twitter, figured they'd be the best places to find out. Also, whoever put that on the wiki pages didn't give any sources to back that up, so I wouldn't trust it.

I wouldn't say they "wussed out". I personally don't care either way, but there are tons of people who absolutely love the "9000" meme. Putting in the television broadcast was just a little bone for them. Let them enjoy it. You still get your original line on the home release. The TV airing isn't near as permanent and long-lasting as that.

First off we only know the cast through the Freeza arc, I'm dammed sure we'll literally get a new re-cast for the 2 remaining arcs.
