You think Faulconer's music is good for a cartoon?

Shirley Walker laughs at Bruce Faulconer. Er, from beyond.
Ummm...okay...?

Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!

Chris Ayres is doing a less terrible job now. Who knows, maybe he'll learn to straddle that thin line he's walking so much better they'll need to redub these lines. :p

I added that last part because, stupidly, I'd forgotten that she had passed. :(

Indeed, she was part of what made Batman the animated series so special. A talent Faulconer could only dream of being in the same league as.

Actually, according to Scott Morgan, a guy who actually worked with him and has enough resentment toward him to constantly trash his musical talent said he's an amazing composer when he's unrestricted. So, um, don't trash someone's ability because they made a style of music that wasn't for you.

First off, who the fuck is this Morgan fella and what notable things has he done musically? Second, if you show me something Faulconer has done that is in the same league as Shirley Walker, I'd gladly praise it.

First up, Scott Morgan actually did a good amount of the DBZ dub's music until he left after the Cell saga due to creative differences. He posts here under the username cRookie_Monster. And secondly, we don't really have much to go off, but I think it's best to trust the word of someone who has every reason to say the contrary. And uh...I don't really know who this Shirley Walker person is...

Wow, you mean Faulconer is really good all the rest of the time? Nobody cares. Unless I can hear this supposedly great work of his, I only have his DBZ work to go on.

But wow, is this ever off topic now.

Shirley Walker composed most of the DCAU music in the '90s, with which her most notable work being Batman.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
But he wasn't actually involved in the making of most of the music. Do you understand what I'm saying? That's why I said we don't have much to go off of. Because not even DBZ has a lot of music that was actually made by him. I'll say it in big letters:

BRUCE FAULCONER HAD LITTLE TO NO INVOLVEMENT IN THE DUB SCORE

And can you stop dismissing every single argument that you disagree with? Jesus, it makes you really difficult to have a discussion with you when all you do is say "LOL No" to anything you disagree with.

So your saying, musically, Bruce has done almost NOTHING for us to judge him on?

You just made your argument look even worse, why even defend Bruce to begin with if he had little to no involvement?

Exactly, so you can't determine if he's even bad in the first place. It's best to just trust the word of somebody who's actually WORKED WITH HIM. Not some random guy on the internet who doesn't like him. And if you're going to use the fact that you don't like Scott Morgan's music as a way to discredit what he's saying, that will make you look ignorant, because he's pointed out the flaws in the dub score in the past and said he was basically doing what he was directed to by FUNimation.

Gah, whatever.

Huh, I didn't realize so many people disliked Faulconer's work around here. Personally, I thought he produced a few amazing themes, but for the most part it seemed average to me. As a matter of fact (And I know I'll probably get flack for this), I happen to like the initial Ocean dub ost a little more than Funimation's themes. The intensity and atmosphere is really something.

Back on topic though, I don't see how this version of Freeza's voice is "Generic". I mean damn, where do some of you guys live? I've never heard anyone who talks like that before in real life.

And the only voices which sound similar that come to mind are the Ocean dub VA of Freeza and as someone already mentioned, Ursula from Little Mermaid.

The tone is what really makes the difference to me. Based off the recent performance, it's very believable that Freeza is the type of stuck up, yet well mannered nobleman that he acts like in the original anime and manga. It'll be interesting to see how this VA does when he Freeza starts to lose it though.

Ok, I'm in the middle of episode 21 right now.
Ayres has seemingly completely eliminated the rasp from his voice, I heard none whatsoever in a long monologue Freeza just had.

It sounds absolutely nothing like Newstone anymore, I'm very VERY happy. IMO, this is the definitive English Freeza! The only way they could do better would be to teach Nakao English.

EDIT: Oh WOW!! He's mocking them in a gentlemanly fashion! HE'S MOCKING THEM IN A GENTLEMANLY FASHION!! That line read really stood out to me!

"So what'll it be? I trust we are all feeling a bit more cooperative now. Yes?"

God, This Voice is just so very good... This truly is the Dragon Ball Z dub I've always wanted but never thought I could ever possibly get...

Well, when the site tends to disregard anything but the original version it's not too surprising its forum would be a gathering-place for those that agree with those sentiments. :p
