Yup, new Dende. And Grand Elder instead of Guru! :o

They used "Grand Elder"! :D

Come to think of it, they did!

However, are they using that as a reference to his position, and might still call him "Guru" as a given name?

Hmm, definitely great to hear Grand Elder, but I'm going to wait to rejoice over the death of the "Guru" moniker until they actually meet him. Remember, in the '97 dub of this part of the series, they were referring to him as "The Eldest Namek". Then when they actually encountered him, they started referring to him as "Guru." And since FUNimation's policy for this show is to pussyfoot around as much as humanly possible without making a concrete decision, it wouldn't shock me at all if they just used the two terms interchangeably.

Doesn't change the fact that it's awesome they said Grand Elder, though.

EDIT: Oh, and I love Dende's new voice.

Dammit, how come all of the recasts for all of the minor characters are pretty good, while all of the recasts for important characters either completely suck or aren't as good as before?
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Wait, like who? Gohan sounds much better to me, as does Bulma. This Freeza is amazing, as well.

Vegeta sounds "calmer" than the previous dub.

Well, I mean, characters like Kewi, Zarbon, Dr. Briefs and Dodoria (somewhat) all got decent to good recasts while we get a really ditzy sounding Bulma, a really annoying Gohan, even when you get to the point when he's not annoying, and a Frieza that's only good for people that actually like JP Frieza. That's just my opinion, though - if you like the new voices, more power to you.

It's still so funny how many divergent opinions of this Freeza there are. jjgp thinks it sounds like Japanese Freeza. A lot of others (including myself) think it sounds more in line with previous dub voices (especially Newstone). So many people are bitching, but they're all doing so for entirely different reasons. It makes me laugh a bit. And then I stop because I get tired of laughing, and, really, why force laughter?

I agree. That's what makes it so much more awesome this time! I was worried though, because in the Season Three "redub", his voice was incredibly deep and harsh, so I was worried that he would use that performance in Kai's dub, but thankfully he took it in a different, lighter direction this time.

Cui wasn't recast.

Well at the end of the day, most seem to be enjoying the new Freeza, and rightfully so! :D

The voice itself does sound like Newstone's, but the delivery is better than either hers or Young's.

It's an improvement, just not the improvement I would have hoped for.

The new Dende is Maxey Whitehead, who is also Al in FMA Brotherhood.

Also, the reason Dende was recast is because his original actress, Laura Bailey, moved to California. She sometimes returns to do work for them, but for Dende... it might have been too much. He does last well into the Freeza fight.

If it was too much for Dende, then I wonder if it would be too much for Kid Trunks. I hope he gets a recast because Bailey's voice for him was quite grating...
