The year had to be about 1998 or 1997.
All I remember is Gohan and Kuririn on Namek.
Haha, yeah that's about all I remember from when I was six.

Re: What's your first Dragonball memory?
I think my first ever Dragon Ball memory was when I was in town with my friend, and he was talking to me about it. I specifically remember him mentioning Super Saiyan and thinking "What the hell is that?" I didn't really get it and I had a low attention span for something that I had no interest in, so I pretty much let it pass.
That was until he actually showed me for real when I went round his house and played Ultimate Battle 22 & Final Bout on his PlayStation. I (somehow) thought the games were awesome and began to give it a chance.

Getting a Super Saiyan Goku toy from McDonald's which shot a ki blast, I think i still have it.ShiningMoon wrote:Getting a Vegeta toy from Burger King and making this face at his hair: O_o
As for the show itself: "Hey! It's that weird-hair guy I got a toy of a couple of years ago, glowing and fighting a giant crazy-lookin' green guy with background music that I am embarrassed to hear. I am horrified, yet mesmerized...must keep watching..."
(My excuse for not getting into DBZ earlier is that I didn't have cable during its first years...)
Though yes, I do feel like this topic was done before in the fairly recent past. Maybe not exactly the same thing though...

My DB memory is this one: this is the 1st time I ever watched DB or DBZ... It was when Kuririn and Gohan saved Dende and Freeza destroyed a mountain cause it was in the way... Remember this scene?

When I was about the age 1 to 3 watching the fight between Tienshinhan and Nappa. Every time I would watch that fight I would think about when I was a baby watching that scene. Until i watched DBZA That was very rude I was talking to VEGETA!

Re: What's your first Dragonball memory?
I think my earliest Dragon Ball memory was playing a video game on my NES. All I can remember is that it was a fighting one (I think it was the NES version of Super Butoden 2 actually), with horrible graphics and I liked it only because Super Saiyan Gohan on Kami's Palace was standing on the title screen and it looked pretty.
I remember that I mistook Vegeta for а hedgehog and Piccolo for a grasshopper.
Good times. Keep in mind that I did not know what Dragon Ball was at that time, I realized later that my first touch with the show was actually with that old video game.
The other thing I can remember before getting seriously involved with the series was staying at a friend's house (who was a little kid back then) and having to watch RTL II's kids' programme. Interestingly enough, Dragon Ball was on at the time with an episode where Goku was an Oohzaru. I thought it was pretty stupid at that time, but boy, was I in for a surprise a couple of years later...

I tried to play the NES version once, it controlled like ass.

Some Namek episode I saw on FOX where Gohan was flying around or something. I was half-asleep and getting ready for school.

To be perfectly honest, pretty much every video game console and its games were bootlegs during the 90s in my country, except the Sega Mega Drive.Blue wrote:Did you know you were playing a bootleg?
That was the case until the Playstation was released.
Otherwise, yeah, I do remember the game being quite impossible to play, even though I was a pipsqueak and didn't understand and appreciate video games for what they really were.
Re: What's your first Dragonball memory?
Dragonball movie 2: The Sleeping Princess in the Devil's Castle. I was five and I watched it at my friend's uncle's house.
I didn't really get into the Dragonball series until a year later when I started watching DBZ everyday after school.

Watching the scene of Son Goku fighting the fish guy from the Other World Tournament filter saga back when it was on Cartoon Network when I was like 5 or 6. That was actually how I discovered Dragon Ball by the way.

Whatever channel the Mega Man cartoon was on (which was either FOX or what is now the CW) and they showed promos of Goku holding the huge tree from the first episode.

I think Tom Dubois of "The Boondocks" said it best for me when FUNimation announced the release of the domestic Dragonbox, after buying all of the Season Sets: "MOTHERFUCK!!! SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT, PRICKS, SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIIIIIIIT!"

LMAO, as your memory is almost exactly how it went down for me.Piccolo Daimao wrote:I think my first ever Dragon Ball memory was when I was in town with my friend, and he was talking to me about it. My friend was yappin about how Dragonball "was the shit" and because I had no interest in it, and did not understand the whole "Super Saiyan" thing either, I pretty much let it pass as well.
He introduced me to Budokai Tenkaichi 3 soon after and I started to play as Trunks because HE was using Goku. (As back then, it was NOT cool to use the same character your friend did) After awhile, I DID start using Goku, and for awhile, my only exposure was through video games. How fucked up is that?

Re: What's your first Dragonball memory?
My first memory of DBZ was in 2000 is seeing some kid in my class sketching a picture of Goku but not knowing who it was. I just always thought the animation back then was really detailed compared to other shows I had seen on TV.
It wasn't until I played Legacy of Goku II (a fantastic DBZ game) around 2003 when I really got into DBZ. I caught it on YTV during the Imperfect Cell saga.

Sadly, mine is not very exciting... started to see bits and pieces of the show around Namek, and got into it.
