I'd like to point out "bad animation" and "bad artwork" pretty much go hand-in-hand when an episode looks like crap. Not to mention Dragon Ball, as a whole, was low-budget and did everything it could to not animate things when it wasn't absolutely necessary.

Um, a good majority of DragonBall Z Episode 129 is badly animated.

I just wanna make sure people aren't confusing bad ANIMATION with bad ARTWORK. I know the two usually come hand-in-hand...and it's not that big of a deal I guess. It's just a personal pet-peeve... >.>

Ug, thank you. Seems like ninety percent of this thread has been ignoring that.

Keeping in mind we're talking about Japanese animation which, well drawn or not, tends to skimp on actual animation to begin with.

Wouldn't it be nice if most Japanese animation were as fluid as Akira? It's a trade off to be sure, Anime tends to make up for the lack of frames with nice detail (most of the time), which draws you in making you somewhat not think of the lack of fluid movement.

I said majority , there's plenty bad , even the "good" like what you mention has a odd quality to it. Character eye and mouth movements alone were fucked up royal.

And as for bad animation episodes... I really don't have anything to offer. All I've got is a single bad screenshot to which I can't remember the rest of the episode quality. But I'll offer it anyway:

Yeah, that might be the first sign that Uchiyama Masayuki was going downhill. I was quite shocked to find out that that was his episode. But other than those ridiculously tall hair moments, the episode overall wasn't TOO bad, and he did get better at Super Saiya-jin in subsequent episodes, I thought.

Watch Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann...then pay special attention to episode 4. (I know, I know...beating a dead horse, but whatever, haha)

I can imagine it with the old anime, because I never saw anything like that with the new ones like Naruto, Gintama or One Piece.
I didn't saw it with Hokuto No Ken, Ranma, Gundam, Uchuu Senkan Yamato etc. too. So it looks like that this phenomena of talentless freaks is not that widespread.

Yeah it is. If you want a terrible Naruto shot there's one where his eyes are totally crooked and he's grinning like an idiot. It's especially awesome when Sakura makes this comment over said shot "Good Naruto, you look kinda cool!"
