Voice Actor Takeshi Aono Hospitalized After Stroke

I wasn't sure if this had been brought up but, the voice actor Takeshi Aono has been hospitalized after a stroke, and is going to be re-casted. He plays Kami-Sama.

This sucks, heavily. Fuji is already looking to recast God and Mihawk, so I'm afraid they don't expect he'll be able to recover by the time the merger and Marineford begin. Mr. Shimada would be a good fit for Mihawk, at least.

Damn, that sucks.
This really has been a bad year for Dragon Ball voice actors.

Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Arg, what's going on with voice actors recently? That sucks.

Moved this to the general section because it applies to a lot more than just Kai. In fact, I'm surprised it's even necessary to recast him in Kai, since Kami's merger with Piccolo should be fairly soon.
But I hope he's able to recover. I just re-watched the episodes of DB featuring Murasaki (whom he also plays, and wonderfully at that) last week.

Well, at least nothing worse than a stroke happened. Hope they find a replacement soon.
Best of wishes to him in his recovery.

To tell you the truth, I bet they already animated and recorded a bunch of the Marineford arc, remember when Mayumi Tanaka said something about recording water 7 when we weren't even close to that scene before?JulieYBM wrote:This sucks, heavily. The Japanese VAs in DBZ aren't exactly spring chickens. Old folks tend to have health issues.Blue wrote:Arg, what's going on with voice actors recently? That sucks.
Still, this is very unfortunate.

Re: Voice Actor Takeshi Aono Hospitalized After Stroke
No, they're not spring chickens, but the original cast was quite varied in age. It does seem there's been quite a string of unfortunate coincidences with the cast since Kai started coming out. And Aono was so close to closing up his role anyway! Some of his best stuff was coming up. In this case, since there's so little left for Kami-sama to do, I wish they'd somehow be able to reuse his recordings from Z, just to be consistent, although I know there's too many reasons why they can't.
But sad for Aono I am. I loved him as Kami-sama and Piccolo and Murasaki. When I think of older Japanese man, he's usually the voice I think of.

Damn that's a shame, also, you'd think with the much improved pace, they'd of recorded the last of his Kami-sama role before this happened. I mean 17 & 18 are gonna be let out soon, then Piccolo goes off after the ass kicking they all took.
Get well soon Takeshi Aono!

So you think you can just take him from the hospital to the studio and record the line? no one want to risk his life especially he's family!TripleRach wrote:I'm surprised it's even necessary to recast him in Kai, since Kami's merger with Piccolo should be fairly soon.

...That's not what I meant. I mean, I'm surprised he hasn't already recorded his final episodes as Kami, because they're probably going to air within the next month or two.Goku100xKamehameha wrote:So you think you can just take him from the hospital to the studio and record the line? no one want to risk his life especially he's family!TripleRach wrote:I'm surprised it's even necessary to recast him in Kai, since Kami's merger with Piccolo should be fairly soon.

Well. As was said, the guy IS 74 years old.
Yanami, at 81, is the one I'm most worried about hanging in there.
It's one thing to lose an actor who plays a non-critical character without all that much screen time left, it's another to lose the narrator!
Nozawa is 73, but I worry less about women, since they live longer than men.
Wow, 73, 74, 81, Furukawa is 63, Nakao is almost 60...
If they'd made Kai any later they'd have to dub it in a nursing home!
