As I said before, Vegeta sounds "calmer" than the previous dub. that's how Japanese sounds like but I just can't decide that I like English Vegeta like this or not

Now that I think about it, Tatum's voice was more suited to Zarbon than Freeza.

I don't hear it. To me, he still sounds the same as in the Saiyan-arc, and I have quite the ability to hear even the smallest of details which angers my Dad all the time when I hear things he doesn't want me to hear.Kendamu wrote:he had lost his surfer accent in the Saiyan Arc. Now he has it again.
He sounds a tad "cool" and laid back, but definitely not "surfer".
EDIT: I added some clarification. Didn't mean to come across as self-worshiping, condescending or anything like that.

He had pretty much nothing in terms of accent when he showed up to fight the Saiyans. Now he does. Maybe it's Chris Sabat's way of showing the differing emotions of the situations, but I think your special skill for accents is clashing with my dealing with a gajillion different accents at work every day.Metalwario64 wrote:I don't hear it. Even then I thought he had a bit of that "cool, laid back" tone in his voice. Even now, he doesn't sound like he's about to shout "Yo! Suuurf's totally up DuuuuUUUUUDDE!!!".Kendamu wrote:He had pretty much nothing in terms of accent when he showed up to fight the Saiyans. Now he does.Metalwario64 wrote:I don't hear it. He does have a bit of an accent, but it doesn't sound like a surfer accent. He just sounds to me like a typical "cool" and "laid back guy", not a "Yo! yuu da bomb duuuuuUUUUDE!".

I didn't hear a surfer voice either, it just sounded odd more than anything else.

It is probably the "Yo!" and the "dude!" that he said. Outside of that, he sounded just about the same as in the Saiyan-arc, just more enthusiastic.MR.Mark wrote:I didn't hear a surfer voice either, it just sounded odd more than anything else.

And I didn't mean it like that. Since when do I blow up on people for disagreements? You usually have to be a total menace to a lot of people here before I do that. You know we're cool.Metalwario64 wrote:Hey! I didn't mean it like that...
Like I said, it's not what he said, it's the actual accent used. Yamcha, to me, sounded almost like just Chris Sabat speaking when he showed up to the fight. While talking to Goku, he's got this bit of an accent that I used to have. It doesn't sound like standard speaking anymore. It's not like Michelangelo from Ninja Turtles kind of "surfer," but it's there. It's not so much of an exaggerated stereotype but it's there. He does have a bit of an accent, but it doesn't sound like a surfer accent. Be careful not to let your own speaking inclination bias you. There's no such thing as no accent. Everybody has one.Kendamu wrote:He had pretty much nothing in terms of accent when he showed up to fight the Saiyans.

I didn't take it as you "blowing up" on me, but I detected a bit of sarcasm and though that I might have said something upset or offend you. It's good that we aren't mortal enemies.Kendamu wrote:Since when do I blow up on people for disagreements? You usually have to be a total menace to a lot of people here before I do that. But yeah, I heard a hint of an accent of some sort, but I even heard that in the Saiyan arc at times, such as when he said "Those Saiyans won't stand a chance in Hell!". I don't think it's surfer, or at least not intended to be, but more of a cool, laid back sorta tone, which I suppose can have some similarities to a surfer accent, but a whole lot more subtle.

No. Actually, what I was originally going to say would've really come off as unintentionally snide and sarcastic. What I ended up saying was my way of trying to avoid that.Metalwario64 wrote:I didn't take it as you "blowing up" on me, but I detected a bit of sarcasm and though that I might have said something upset or offend you. Yep! I still "yo" a lot and "dude" sometimes but I was comparable to Keanu Reeves at one point several years ago.Wait... you used to have a surfer accent?Kendamu wrote:While talking to Goku, he's got this bit of an accent that I used to have.
Maybe I just haven't listened to Yamcha in the Saiyan arc recently enough to really remember, but I remember Heather and I commenting, while watching the Blu-ray, that the accent was gone. But yeah, I heard a hint of an accent of some sort, but I even heard that in the Saiyan arc at times, such as when he said "Those Saiyans won't stand a chance in Hell!". Re: "DragonBall Z Kai" TV Broadcast Talkback
Maybe you just didn't notice it due to the lack of "Yo!"s and "Dude!"s (and "Sweet!"s). Other than that word usage, I didn't notice anything too off.

Well, I wouldn't Sabat's Yamucha had the surfer/stoner affect again, just that it sounded like it was leaning that way, and sounded different than it did in the Saiyan arc. Maybe it was just an off episode for him.
I didn't quite get that Schemmel was capturing Goku that well, just the dialogue. Schemmel still doesn't have the right voice or delivery. The script is doing most of the work for him.

Schemmel's Goku did make me smile a little bit, but nothing like "Bake a Cake" and MasakoX.

Anyhoo, Sabat's accent still doesn't peg me as surfer as much as it is just his natural accent. Even to this day, he pronounces words like stronger, "stronnn-ger", it's very weird to me.
Re: "DragonBall Z Kai" TV Broadcast Talkback
I'm usually not one to care or even think about it...but even I heard some surfer in Yamcha's voice in Episode 24. It didn't bother me, but I still heard it.

Um.... yeah dude... surfer Yamcha is back. I swear, it almost sounded like he was trying to imitate Michealangelo.... he did NOT talk like that during the Saiyan saga. I also noticed that this episode seemed to have more of the 'punched-up' dialogue compared to other eps that stayed a lot closer to the script.

Re: "DragonBall Z Kai" TV Broadcast Talkback
That's a grossly over-exaggerated statement. Even the toughest critics of this episodes performance admit it wasn't that bad. The "punched up" dialogue was mostly only really from King Kai, and it was annoying how he kept saying "I am King Kai!", which was nowhere in the Japanese original from what I remember, and made him come across as childish.Coola Yagami wrote:I swear, it almost sounded like he was trying to imitate Michealangelo...
I really hope it was a censored line, and hopefully he says something more appropriate in the uncut dub. Perhaps instead of responding to Goku's request to at least see Frieza, he will say "No way in hell!" as opposed to "I am King Kai!", which makes no sense at all, unless the script writer was drunk, or else he needs to be booted off of writing scripts for Kai episodes...
I rewatched that scene, and I admit it is a bit surfer towards the beginning, but it slowly vanishes through the rest of the episode, and by the time Goku mentions that he's training on his way to Namek, the surfer accent is gone. I'm assuming he was in "cool" mode due to the slightly "cooled" up dialogue at the beginning, which was a bit annoying. After the scene at Kai's planet, the dialogue seems par for the course.
I still love Goku's dialogue with things like "bunch'a weaklings" and "What's that s'posed to mean?" and Burgmeier's Tenshinhan performance was great as well, and was much smoother this time, so it all kinda evened out. I also noticed that Sabat's Vegeta did sound a lot like Horikawa (his Kai performance at least) at times, especially the scream at the end!

I wasn't impressed by Schemmel's Gokû. In fact, he sounded just like always. The strain on his voice when he tries to play Gokû as happy is always obvious and annoys me greatly.

Re: "DragonBall Z Kai" TV Broadcast Talkback
Kaioh felt very out of character, but I guess FUNi did that on purpose. Yamcha felt surfer-ish; especially with the "Yo!" and "Dude!". Very disappointing. On the other hand, Gokuh was great, though that was mostly due to the script and or voice director; unless Schemmel was choosing to speak that way on his own.
