Now, to be a bit critical. Something I noticed throughout the entire episode (and with Kaiser as sharp as he is, I'm sure he knows)...Zarbon's kind o' sort o' monotonous. I'm not entirely sure if this is purposeful or not, but the character only seems to exist on the one wave length in terms of emotion and vocal volume. I'm probably doing a terrible job of explaining what I mean, but it's something that has bothered me throughout my viewing of the episode.

Do you guys have a voice director or do you all kind of collaborate on the best ways to say lines? LittleKuriboh really rocked a lot of lines in this episode so it made me think.

By the way, are you still going to voice #17, Kaiser? I have to wonder how you're going to do that and voice Trunks, too. O.o

First I want to say, I'm sorry about using the word 'critical'. In hindsight it sounds so much more harsh than I meant it to. Reviewing the episode as I do every time a new one comes out (i.e. watch it a dozen or two times the first day), I came to feel that the line delivery could have progressively lost that pompous touch. I understand, though, that you probably wanted to make the clear cut distinction between the normal and monster forms, so I respect the decision you made.KaiserNeko wrote:Well, he's always trying to sound regal and pompous. Ah, I didn't think you did it for every single line (just a few). Very good choice on your part (although it must be hard with Masako and Vegeta).KaiserNeko wrote:I actually direct everyone on their lines, live.Blue wrote:Do you guys have a voice director or do you all kind of collaborate on the best ways to say lines? Another great episode!
Favorite bits/lines:
- "If this goes any further south, we'll be in Space Mexico"
- Karma
- Zarbon's innuendo
- Guru... just... Guru ("I do not know who this Yamucha is. But it sounds disappointing.")
- "Freakin' weeaboo."

Re: DragonBall Z Abridged
Well, what is there to say? Great episode. I always look forward to new stuff from you guys. The beginning was a great way to handle the scene. That smile was priceless.
The whole heaven is asinine gag. Well.. I didn't find that to be very funny. I understand what you were going for, but the line just seems offensive and alienating to some of your fans. Not me, I'm an atheist, I have no problem with jokes making fun of religion, as long as they're funny. But that line was just "religion is silly, get it? Get it?" Not a TeamFourStar caliber line.
I. Freaking. Love. Ya'lls. Freeza. LittleKoriboh was a fantastic choice. He's a great actor, and the voice he does is just so Freeza. I could go on, but I'd just be echoing everybody else. Just wanted to say it.
Kai music! Very interesting choice. What was the decision behind using that over Kukichi? Don't get me wrong, I like the Kai music, and hearing it in that scene fit especially nicely since I had just watched that episode on TV. For a second, I forgot I was watching a parody. What does this mean for the future of the series? Are you still going to use the traditional Z music and mix it in with Kai stuff? Or are you going to stick mostly to Kai? Speaking of which, did you guys ever think that your series would be running along side the actual show on TV? Crazy world this is. Dragon Ball is so unpredictable. Except with video games. Has the TV airing of Kai affected your viewership in any noticeable way?
"Why did I explode?" Best Vegeta line ever.
So what's the deal with using footage from clearly the wrong spot; when the background doesn't match the scene? Like Dende in front of a cave when he's supposed to be outside of the Grand Elders? And Nail being outside when he's supposed to be inside? I understand that you're looking for the right facial expressions, but why would you pick that over the flow of the scene? It was kind of off-putting and took me out for a moment. Couldn't there be another way to do that? Maybe splicing scenes together? Or focusing on another character?
Super Kami Guru is the best. I knew from the scene in the Saiyan saga that Saichoro was going to be a funny character. I really like what you guys have done with him. "I've got a bitch of an itch on my left ass-cheek." The Nail - Guru dynamic is one of the best so far. Even better than Vegeta - Nappa. I'm going to miss those guys.
So, did Yamcha's voice actor change? How come he sounds different every time I hear him on your series? Is it some sort of genius meta-level "Yamcha-is-forgettable-and-useless" gag? Anyway, that last scene was great. Too bad you had to cut it up for YouTube. "Freakin' weeaboo." I'm not sure which fan that's making fun of, but I know what I got out of it. And what I got out of it is flying over the heads of some of the other fans, I see.
In short. Great episode. Looking forward to more. Episode 15 is still my favorite from Namek so far. But the Ginyu force is abound. I'm expecting some steller cameos. Also Appule is in the next episode, right? I'm expecting a cameo there too.

The slaughter of an entire village over the opening, folks! =DInnagadadavida wrote:Well, what is there to say? Great episode. I always look forward to new stuff from you guys. The beginning was a great way to handle the scene. That smile was priceless.
Well, I tend to disagree. It's more Dende's reaction to it all than a shot at religion. I'm agnostic, myself, but it was more to emphasize Dende's incredulous personality. Kuririn himself also realizes that he'd been spinning quite the fantastic idea of heaven, so he just sort of agrees, understanding that heaven is an unknown. The whole heaven is asinine gag. Well.. I didn't find that to be very funny. I understand what you were going for, but the line just seems offensive and alienating to some of your fans. Though Kuririn has BEEN to Heaven before, and as far as we know, none of that is there.
Funny how he was originally going to be Ginyu! We're very happy with the decision to go with him, as well, over a Linda Young impression. This provides us with a much deeper, more interested character to use. LK is a fantastic actor and a great guy.I. Freaking. Love. Ya'lls. Freeza. LittleKoriboh was a fantastic choice. He's a great actor, and the voice he does is just so Freeza. I could go on, but I'd just be echoing everybody else. Just wanted to say it.
Alright, the real, honest to God reason we keep using Kai music is because... Well, a lot of the music from the show comes from the movies. As such, DragonBall Z has a limited OST release. Most of the songs released on the 5 disc set that I actually purchased many years ago are only from the show itself. This means I have only a handful or tracks to pull from, thus there are some scenes in which I'd love to use the old Z score, but I can't find one to match the tone without either feeling too serious or feeling just plain out of place.Kai music! Very interesting choice. What was the decision behind using that over Kikuchi? Don't get me wrong, I like the Kai music, and hearing it in that scene fit especially nicely since I had just watched that episode on TV. For a second, I forgot I was watching a parody. What does this mean for the future of the series? Are you still going to use the traditional Z music and mix it in with Kai stuff? Or are you going to stick mostly to Kai? Has the TV airing of Kai affected your viewership in any noticeable way?
So, with that in mind, I turn to the Kai soundtrack. It's got a wider range of available music and allows me to stay within' DragonBall's range of media. Whenever I can fit in Kikuchi's score, I well plan to. Usually, in scenes where it calls for great drama, where I think Kikuchi's score really excels. So yeah, you can expect a lot more Kai and Z music living in harmony with each other.
As far as our show running alongside Kai, it's pretty exciting actually! We've really enjoyed the dub so far and we're honestly very excited to see more and more as the show continues on. Kai itself has given us the chance to fall in love with the series all over again, highlighting all of our favorite parts while allowing us to skip over fluff!
I was so looking forward to editing that shot too. =D"Why did I explode?" Best Vegeta line ever.
Oh, trust me. I tried. I had three different shots for that part. But honestly... I just couldn't do it. I guess I could have cut out the background and replaced it, now that I think back, but all the other tricks I tried looked so cheap and obvious that I decided to just leave the cave there. Sure, it might of gotten some peoples attention, but I'm sure most people watching didn't really notice or care.So what's the deal with using footage from clearly the wrong spot; when the background doesn't match the scene? Like Dende in front of a cave when he's supposed to be outside of the Grand Elders? And Nail being outside when he's supposed to be inside? Yeah, we definitely got the feeling early on that this was our next "duo". We love these guys and writing for them has been great. Though now that they're calling him Grand Elder in the dub of Kai, I just hope that the joke doesn't fail new viewers! ^.^;Super Kami Guru is the best.
OK, I'm gonna be candid with you. When we started the show, we didn't have the characters fully written, our style laid out, and our skills fully sharpened. It's only been over the course of the first season that we've really gotten the full hang of what we want to do with every single character and how we want to tell the story. Some characters, well, have changed a bit. While Kuririn still remains our resident "butt monkey" to pull from the tropes, Yamcha has become the defacto failure of the series. Now, this isn't to bash the actual character of Yamcha, but all characters have a role to play and, well... Yamcha slacked off a -lot- in comparison to the other Z-senshi.So, did Yamcha's voice actor change? How come he sounds different every time I hear him on your series? Is it some sort of genius meta-level "Yamcha-is-forgettable-and-useless" gag? Anyway, that last scene was great. Too bad you had to cut it up for YouTube. "Freakin' weeaboo." I'm not sure which fan that's making fun of, but I know what I got out of it. And what I got out of it is flying over the heads of some of the other fans, I see.![]()
But as for the -voice-, well... Vegeta3986 is a huge of Yamcha wanted to tackle him for the show. Unfortunately, as I said, we didn't really know his role in the series yet. We sort of just slapped the surfer dude accent on him and called it a day, as he hardly plays much of a role in the show. It wasn't until his "fight" with one of the Saibaimen that we really realized just what we wanted out of him. It became apparent that the surfer accent was more annoying than funny and the character could be acted better without it.
It's somewhat unfortunate. If we could go back and redo season 1, it would probably be a better affair overall. But, that comes with living and learning. It's lifelong and we feel that now we're better writers and actors thanks to the experience.
But yeah, that's the same actor, just without the surfer dude accent and a LOT of direction on my part. That's another thing, too. I JUST started, this season, directing people live over Skype. It's been fun and a great learning experience as well!
We definitely have some cameos coming up.In short. Great episode. Looking forward to more. Episode 15 is still my favorite from Namek so far. But the Ginyu force is abound. I'm expecting some steller cameos. Also Appule is in the next episode, right? I'm expecting a cameo there too.
I'd also like to note, Recoome will NOT be a parody of his dub voice. We decided against it because it just did not give us full range on the character.
It's funny, the entire Ginyu Force has been written over the course of Season 2. For the most part, we now have them all fully written as characters and so many, many jokes planned for them. It's really exciting and we cannot wait for episode 18!
