Don't bash the new Freeza and say it sounds like a grandma while even faintly having the mindset that Linda Young's Freeza was any good whatsoever.
Actually, my point was that if you like someone so much that you're going to hate the replacement for not being the original, you might as well not even bother putting a bunch of energy into complaining about the replacement because the original isn't ever coming back.

Oh, yes. I understood your point, I was just throwing in my two cents at the end.

Freeza: "So you're saying my foreboding is nothing more than childish paranoia?"

Good God, am I ever loving everything about Freeza in this dub, from the voice, to the acting, to the dialogue. Kudos to the Funi writers, they're really doing there homework this time around and actually understand Freeza's character.

Yes. That is exactly the line I was going to comment on. That was very, very good. This guy is the perfect Freeza.

So I finally heard the new voice... and it sounds like Ocean Freeza.

God damn it. I was hyped too. Stupid dub

Exactly how much have you heard? At first, he definitely copied Newstone, and he still does the Newstone impression during a few random deliveries, but for the most part, he is adjusting well and turning into his own performance, and is quite close to an English representation of Nakao. Only thing that has really bugged me are the weak screams, which is similar to Nakao's Kai performance I guess...

I think it works, for now. The voice indeed has its own merits at this point, but even then the acting and script is superb.

And before you know it, the transformations will be here...I'm really excited!
I think I'll be buying assorted Dragon Ball things for the rest of my life.

Every now and then, yes it does. It's a great voice, I like it but there are times where I'm like, "was that Richard Horvitz?" My girlfriend and I were making jokes about this. Overall I really dig the voice It finds a good balance between the Original Japanese version and continuity to Young's voice from the first episode.
...Wait what are you doing? Are you still reading this? I finished what I had to say, why don't you move on to the next post?

Interesting that you say that, because my favorite line of his that I have heard* is when he shouted, "DODORIA STOP, WAIT A MOMENT!" I loved his delivery of that line. It struck me as sounding extremely rage-filled, psychotic, and commanding.

*So far, anyway, because I only watch the TV dub when important things happen like an insert song or a new voice actor's debut.
A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:

I stand by what I said earlier, before Freeza's premiere, about Chris being the closest match as far as Nakao's delivery. Yes, there are some minute differences in their vocal tones, but his portrayal and Tatum's REALLY good adaptive scripting make this version of Freeza every bit as disturbing and interesting as the original, at least to me. Chris has been doing this for years and he's incredibly good, despite a lotta people not even knowing this because they haven't heard him nearly enough to be aware. Freeza's transformations, especially his final form, are gonna be even MORE to look forward to.
His final form, eh? Something tells me he's gonna use his normal voice for that one. Gonna be creepy sounding on Final Form Freeza. o.o

So I'm not the only one. ^^; I think it's kind of cool. He's doing a pretty good job at the character, though. I don't think there's anyone else in FUNimation that could do better, honestly.

I agree with Kirby about the Tatum thing, the episodes I've seen where he's credited as "ADR Script Writer" are near-verbatim to the original script; if it were up to me he'd be Head Writer instead of Burgmeier.

I can't get enough of the new Freeza. Everytime I'm able to watch an episode I haven't seen I catch myself trying to remember when the next scene Freeza appears in will be.

Fully agreed, there has been many great recasts, like Gohan, Freeza is one the definitive English performances in this dub.

Freeza is single handedly the best recast in my opinion. Or maybe I'm just REALLY enjoying how they are writing for him now.

I completely agree Freeza is the best recast though others such as Bulma and Zarbon are very good changes as well.

The combination of a male voicing the character along with a more appropriate voice, a great script and superb acting makes this Freeza the best part of Kai's dub in my opinion.

Yeah, but you have to remember that if it's not Linda Young you're going to hate it, anyway. So you might as well make due.
Wha...? I didn't even think Linda Young was awesome in the first place. Ugh, there goes the usual "IT'S NOSTALGIA" stuff in place of an argument again...
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

No, it's not nostalgia. You currently like Linda Young while you currently watch Dragonball Z on the recently-released sets, right? I'm not talking about ten years ago. I'm talking about you enjoying Dragonball in the present just like the rest of us.

You always come off as that guy who likes what he's had for so long so much that, if it changes, you're going to be resistant to that change.

And I'm not arguing with you. So, you're right, this isn't a "real argument." I made a statement about my perception of your current tastes. So don't even try to lump me in with people who use the Nostalgia Card on you.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I thought the scene of Freeza yelling when he discovered he needed a password for the Dragon Balls was beautifully executed by Mr. Ayres. Granted, I thought it was done well by Ms. Young, but the Kai version blows it out of the water. I have to say, I've been nothing but impressed with Chris Ayres' work so far. If by some hellish reason I couldn't listen to Ryusei Nakao's performance anymore, I'd definitely be fine settling with Ayres' interpretation.

All in all, I had my concerns at first, but I've been nothing but impressed every time Freeza opens his mouth in this Kai dub. I hope we get through the rest of the Ginyu stuff quickly, because I'm excited for the Freeza fight.

I'll go a bold step further and claim that Ayres performance as Freeza is so good, that by the end of the day, I will come to love his interpretation just as much as Nakaos. Chris is Freeza in English just as much as Ryusei is in Japanese, I'm just not that type of fan to put Japanese actors on pedestals unless they truly deserve it, the fact that they "did it first" isn't always enough for me.

There's nothing wrong with being passionate over performances, but the fact of the matter is that a dub, especially of a childrens cartoon ,can be matched or even topped in the acting department. As impossible as that may seem to some anime fans out there, also, The Cowboy Bebop dub agrees fully with my statement.
