What do you mean? Anime versus the original manga? Original anime versus Kai? Some country's dub versus some other country's dub? Please put a little more explanation into your posts. One sentence does not a post make.

I prefer the original anime's version -- the music totally sells it, with its absurd dynamic between the awesomely suspenseful BGM... and then the flowers and final pose followed by silence. I don't mind the new song in Kai, but feel it's better for the next episode's scene rather than their introduction.

Kai by far, I love both the Japanese and English version of that scene.

While I do appreciate the incongruity in the original anime scene in Z, in Japanese, with the music being suspenseful compared to these outlandish poses... The fact that I'm so sick of hearing the same theme (apparently called "Kyoufu no Ginyuu Tokusentai" and yet used in nearly EVERY episode up to around the Garlic Jr. saga, and then some) makes me not appreciate it as much.

I actually quite like the original dub, before the re-dub, and the way they handled it there. It was in the same tone as the Japanese version, but with music that I didn't hear in every episode (well, as far as I'm aware - I'd have to do a marathon run of those episodes). Not to mention, I always appreciate the Ocean Group's voice actors.

This is maybe the one instance of Kai using an insert song that isn't unbearably over-the-top. Or, I suppose it still is, but in an appropriate way.

I've been happy with it in every version of the anime. If I had to pick one, I'd go with the original Japanese DBZ version, but not by much. I'll take the Japanese Kai over the American Z Kai, if only because the wording "Ginyu Force rules" sounds kind of forced (even if it's supposed to be cheesy). It's hardly bothersome, though.

I really like the BGM used when they were introduced in DBZ, and it fit the scene well. But Kai's "TOKUSENTAI! TOKUSENTAI!" song captured the spirit of what they're about. Kikuchi's piece makes them seem more intimidating, but the insert song in Kai gives them that, "Oh god, that elite force is these guys?" kind of feel. Which, if you think about it, both fit.

I don't know. I'll say it's a tie.

The English dub version of the Ginyu song, by the way, lacks the punch the Japanese version did. It's not bad, but it feels a little half-hearted.

But he's also a fighter, through and through [...] he fight until he has, in no uncertain terms, beaten his enemy on terms they can both acknowledge. He doesn't want to kill anyone, or even prove that he can win... he just wants to know he can. He's an ineffably charming bastard who's manly leanings were really incendental, and yes, the fact that he was voiced by a squeaky woman made the combination perhaps all the more charming.

I prefer "Tokusentai" overall. All the other versions I've seen and heard are nice and all, but "Tokusentai" really hits my personal sense of humor well.

I'm torn between the English DBZ Kai version (Ginyu Force Rules! How can you not sing along to that? ha) and the Japanese Kai version. I can't say I particularly dislike any version, though.

I like the original Japanese and Ocean dub scene best. The Kai music if fun but weird. Funimation dub with Japanese music is fine, but with their own music, is bad.

You know what, upon a second viewing just now, I'm revising my opinion. The Kai version is still too much. The song on its own is hilarious, and as VegettoEX said, it would have been great in a preview or lesser scene. But the absurdity of the song combined with the absurdity of their introduction is kind of too much to sell it. I honestly find the Z version funnier, because the music retains the idea that these guys are a threat, only to immediately stop for dead-pan silence.

This is my big problem with Kai's insert songs in general. They're so over-the-top and patronizing. "Freeza is evil and doing evil things, so play a really spooky song about how evil he is!" "Some of the main characters have died so play the most melodramatic J-pop song you can find!" "The Ginyu force are a funny sentai parody. Make sure there's absolutely no way that can fly over the viewers' heads!"

As opposed to Z where it was "Trunks is killing Freeza, so here's a bad-ass sounding '80s synth track. Why? It just sounds cool." Preferable.

TO-KU-SEN-TAI! by far, the serious bgm used in Z clashed because you were not made to think for a second that these guys were bad-ass. They were doing ridiculous poses the whole time and the roses were like the punchline at the end of a long joke. Kai's version is a perfect fit for the "power rangers" of the Dragon Ball world.

Over the star? That certainly is not as over the top as Hironobu Kageyama going "whoooooa, whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa, whooooooooooa". During Trunk's flashback in Z.

I mean, I love Kageyama, but the Z anime had its share of cheesy songs.

I'm sorry but, the scene in Kai just blows the scene in Z out of the water. The song being over the top actually fits the scene this time 'round.

That's by far as cheesy (as in trying too hard to match the scene) as the original insert songs get (outside of the intentionally cheesy and not at all melodramatic Dragon Ball songs), and even then it seems like it's primarily going for the '80s synth version of bad-ass again.

If Kai had an insert song playing over that same thing, it would be so. ridiculously. melancholy. We're talking violins, choir, soft remorseful voices, or any combination thereof. Because it's sad that his future is wrecked, get it?
