Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
Re: Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
Godo
If you had understood what I meant, you would see that all I`m talking about is the exaggeration in the criticism both in quantity (almost only that) and in quality (when something clearly doesn`t deserve so much criticism). Not the criticism itself.
Criticism is a very good thing, but not when its exaggerated.
I`m also not in favor of comparing the incomparable, which is why I won`t compare a movie made by fans about Star Wars to the actual Star Wars movies, for example, or, at least, I won`t compare them on equal grounds.
Its the same thing with a manga and a fan manga. That being said, DBM might be limited because of its genre, but within its genre (as a DB fan manga) its the best or one of the best out there (at least in my opinion), which should always be remembered, even though there aren`t a lot of them.
Just because the original manga or another manga, or another piece of fiction is better and I`ve seen it and I know about it and about others too, if I start to exaggerate and keep on just pointing out the flaws of a manga because it was has more flaws than some of the best I`ve seen, maybe without even regarding if it belongs to the same genre as the other or if it was made by professionals or not, I`m clearly losing perspective on my criticism.
Yes, DBM could be even better and to criticize what is wrong with it might very helpful to keep on improving it, and everyone has the right to their opinion and free speech, but when the criticism loses perspective, it becomes much less useful.

Yeah, they did a weird translation of the verb tense here for some reason. Here's what the original says for the whole page:The Tori-bot wrote:Well, you heard it here first, folks.
BROLI'S STRENGTH INCREASE.I smell a meme.
Vegeta: Pff! Gohan's returning to his better days.
Piccolo: Yes, he is the strongest for now...
Piccolo: ...But you know Broly's strength is increasing!
"Strength" can be substituted with Chi/Ki/force/power/yadda, "Pff!" can be replaced with any sound effect that is a scoff.

Do Dōjinshi count as fanmanga? If so I have to really, really disagree with you.rereboy wrote: its the best or one of the best out there

You are free to disagree with me at any time. I have my own opinions and I expect you to have your own even if it means you will disagree with me. I just expressed my opinion.Blue wrote:Do Dōjinshi count as fanmanga? If so I have to really, really disagree with you.rereboy wrote: its the best or one of the best out there
But yes, Dōjinshi count as fanmanga. I even think that fan manga is the translation of Dōjinshi.
And at least in this case you are comparing two perfectly comparable works (on equals grounds). You might not consider DBM as one of the best but you are comparing the comparable, you are comparing it to others works of similar genre. As long as you keep that in mind and don`t just fall into a routine of criticism, just pointing out the wrongs and forgetting the goods, you will keep your criticism in perspective, as it should.
This is all I meant and all that I was talking about.
But I tire of this subject... Let`s change it. I took a peek at page 258 and its pretty brutal
Re: Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
We need more mini comics. Easily the best part of this project. Just reread through all 21. Funny, funny stuff.
Also thank you for the consistent protips.

Agreed, couldn't have said it better myself.Blue wrote:That was...beautiful Godo.
Anyway, I also might wait until the special is over. I just find that the pacing isn't that great and we practically know the outcome of it anyway. Once the main story continues, I'll gladly start reading again.

Re: Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
In my personal opinion, this chapter isn't that good at all, I might say that it is downright bad. I know I might sound like a typical bandwagoning, mindless drone at this point. Which is why I'm going to elaborate on my views and explain why this chapter irks me in particular.
The first problem with this chapter is just the fact that is expands on something tired and done throughout the Dragon Ball Multiverses series as it; Broly. I've actually counted all the pages that include him or pages that pretty much exist exclusively just to hype his presence up, and the total was a rather high number, clocking in at about 98-100 pages. One hundred pages spent on pretty much this one solitary character, in a series bristling with new ideas, concepts and interesting fights. I mean, that's almost (yes, 2/3rds can be defined as "almost") half of the series! This'd be more acceptable if the content wasn't blatantly unoriginal; the fight between Vegeto and Broly reeks of the opening intros to the video games and is just an idea lacking creativity to begin with, the first flashback is pretty much Movie 8 if they used the Genki Dama to defeat Broly and this special is Movie 10 if Vegeta, Piccolo, and Android 18 were incorporated into the story. In other words, the two specials do nothing that the movies haven't done besides glamorize Broly more. I didn't even know that was possible. It a shame that the creative minds behind all the alternate universes' characters and setting pretty much got up and said, "I have an idea for the plot! Lets make Movie 10, but add Vegeta and Piccolo like the fans always wanted."
The special is also suffering from some dreadful pacing issues. So far, minus the eye-rolling "cutesy" antics of Goten and Trunks and the worst exposition for any DBZ character that I've heard in my life, the special contains 11 pages, all of which are fighting. As it is, the special has already been dragging its feet. However, it becomes worse when you realize that the actual fight as barely started; Vegeta hasn't even unleashed his full power, and Gohan and Broly have just recently started to unleash theirs (Broly did 4 pages ago, and Gohan did 2 pages ago). Eleven pages for what basically amounts to an appetizer. Bear in mind that in other mangas; the entire fight would almost be finished; in Ruroni Kenshin, the first battle between Kenshin and Shishio lasts for 20 pages, and in the Elfen Lied manga, the battle between Nana and Batou lasts 10 pages. Even in Dragon Ball Z, Toriyama managed to summarize the entire backstory of Trunks in 18 pages. Hell, even with Dragon Ball Multiverse, the hyped-up fight between Dabura and Cell took 16-17 pages. In general, the pacing of the comic seems to be incredibly sluggish, and that, combined with how unoriginal and dull this story is creates a mini-comic that is just bad to read.
I could go on about the complaints (the aforementioned worst DBZ character exposition [seriously, I could name five things wrong with that], the shoddy art at the beginning, amongst other things), but maybe the special has something redeeming to it. Not really, the fights are rather slow, and while the art for the fights is rather good, but definitely not the best DBM has to offer. So there's very little things that are worthwhile in this special, and a lot of degrading things that significantly subtract from this special.
Forgive me if this post is sloppy, I am writing this at 1:00 A.M.
Also, this is a far better fan-comic than Dragon Ball Multiverse.

To be honest, I might've been too harsh with my current standpoint, but I still stand by it.
I can understand that mindset, but in terms of artistry, that comic is unrivaled, although the Dragon Ball H series comes really close, but I didn't want to mention that because I think THAT comic series is overrated. Honestly, though, nothing else has come close, and I've seen a lot of Dragon Ball, uh, "fan comics."Scarz wrote: Pfft, that comic is overrated.

I was just kidding about the comic being overrated although to be honest it isn't one of my favorite DB related hentais out there. I still believe DBH by Rehabilitation still holds up as one of the best.Deep Thought wrote:I can understand that mindset, but in terms of artistry, that comic is unrivaled, although the Dragon Ball H series comes really close, but I didn't want to mention that because I think THAT comic series is overrated. Hey Scarz, I don't suppose you can speak about your real special chapter, right? :p

Honestly I don't have a clue. Salagir hasn't sent me the script yet and if he did I'm pretty sure I'm supposed to keep it a secret.JulieYBM wrote:Hey Scarz, I don't suppose you can speak about your real special chapter, right? :p

Ah yes PBX's work is excellent. I remember being blown away when first finding it. I still deep down hold the fact that 18 is a Futanari pure canon.Scarz wrote:

Lol @ Piccolo appearing out of nowhere like Batman. He's the goddamn Piccolo!
@Haters - You have to admit the fight scenes are better than Movie 10. Where else can we see Vegeta fighting evenly with someone instead of getting his ass handed to him?
Who else thinks Tien might make a last minute appearance to help out?
