*facepalm* You are equating my point to rape to make it easier to argue with. Rape and insulting are not the same thing. Not even in the same league. You took that way to far.

At any rate, the cosplyers in the original post are good. So why are we even having this discussion? I don't care much for cosplay anyway. But Nostal is a good artist. He does a lot of cool work on DeviantART. His fiancee is a cutie, too. Good on him.
The fuck?

I personally know several cosplayers and not one of them does it for attention. They ALL do it for fun.
Whether they admit it or not, they're doing it for attention. That's part of the fun is to have people look at you. If you dress like its Halloween, you're going to have people look at you and judge you for it. If you don't want that, then don't cosplay.

Just because that's the only reason that you would do it doesn't hold true for everyone. Did you go Trick or Treating in a costume as a kid for attention? Do you wear a shirt you think is cool for attention? Do all actors act because they want attention? Do all sports stars play sports because they want attention?

This is actually one of the most narrow-minded comments I have seen on this board. :?

Considering what I responded to above... I think it's a perfectly apt example. If all cosplayers are only doing it for attention, why can't all skirt wearing women only be doing it because they want to sleep with you? It's a 1:1 comparison.

<Kaboom> I'm just glad that he now sounds more like Invader Zim than Rita Repulsa
<Xyex> Original Freeza never sounded like a chick to me.
<Kaboom> Neither does Rita
<Xyex> Good point.

No, that's not the reason I would do it. That's the reason I wouldn't do it. Because I don't care to have everybody look at me prancing around as this or that character. I don't need that kind of attention or validation. I'm not denying that it's fun. Yeah, I'm sure it's great fun. And part of that fun is the attention you get. I'm not being narrow minded, I'm pointing out a basic human desire. And I'm not saying that doing something for attention is bad. Kids do go trick or treating in costume for attention. That's why most kids will try to pick out the best costume. They want to stick out and be admired. Everybody wants admiration. Everybody. No exceptions.

What's bad is if you dress up, fail at it, and then get all upset when people point that out. Of course they're going to point it out. YOU PUT YOURSELF OUT THERE TO BE POINTED OUT.

I... can't... believe... I have to explain this. *Sigh* here goes.

Forcing someone into sex against their will is, illegal, immoral, and just about the worse thing you can do to another human being. It's unwanted physical contact. It's a humiliating, degrading, fucking disgraceful act. It is perfectly normal and socially acceptable to wear a skirt. Wearing a skirt does not mean you want somebody to force you into sex.

However, cosplaying totally warrants and encourages people to look at you. People are going to form an opinion about the costume, good or bad. Being vocal about their opinion on the costume is perfectly acceptable. It is NOT THE SAME AS RAPE. Fucking Christ that was an idiotic comment.
