Re: "DragonBall Z Kai" TV Broadcast Talkback
I don't think Linda Young's acting sucks. Maybe it's because I've recent re-watched the entire 112 episode run of Yu Yu Hakusho dubbed (she voiced Yusuke's master, the psychic Genkai), but I find that, yes, she can act, and act pretty well. One roll doesn't define an actor. Even the best actors can have a bad performance.
Though, that said, I do like the new voice. I am disappointed that we never got to hear how she would have taken the role, but I am happy with the selection.
I'm happy with almost all of the voice work and actors thus far. This with the improved script and voice direction has done wonders for the dub.
I admit, some stuff-like Jheese and Reacum's voices, do catch me a bit surprised. But, I'm less bothered by it in the Ginyu Force-They're supposed to be goofy parodies of Super Sentai, so I expect some of the odd bits from them.

Y'see, I often see people point out Young's Genkai as an example of good acting, but I never liked that voice, either. (I also recently re-watched the entire dubbed Yu Yu Hakusho series.)

I don't hate Linda Young, either. I've heard her in some of her other roles. She just doesn't do it for me as Freeza. That's as simple as it gets.Mewzard wrote:I don't think Linda Young's acting sucks. I was using an example, as that description(Just because a dub voice for a character sounds nothing like the same character's Japanese voice, doesn't make the voice bad or unfitting. A lot of Dragon Ball fans fail to grasp this concept.) is classic pro-Young!Freeza argument. That wasn't "oversensitivity." Why don't you read what people write instead of throwing out (incorrect)accusations?Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:Excuse me but, how did you take what I said about dub voices compared to original voices and turn it into me prasing Linda Young's Freeza? I wasn't referring to any specific dub voice. Jeez, talk about oversensitivity.
BTW, whether Linda Young can act/fits the character of Freeza is entirely subjective. You and I may not like her voice, but there are some people who do. There is a Dragon Ball fanbase outside the Daizex forums, you know. Refer to what I said before in my that post you quoted.

Really? Do a lot of people say that when defending Linda Young's Freeza voice? Either way, I think what I said also applies to her Freeza voice. Linda Young's Freeza voice sounds nothing like the character's original voice, that's a fact. However, it is a different interpretation of the character. Just because you, I and all of the Daizex forum users dislike her voice for the character, doesn't make it objectively bad. As I said before, Daizex isn't the only DB fan community on the internet. Believe it or not, there are people out there who actually like her voice for the character.B wrote:I was using an example, as that description(Just because a dub voice for a character sounds nothing like the same character's Japanese voice, doesn't make the voice bad or unfitting. So, are you calling me nuts? Because I'm personally part of a number of DB fanbases outside the Daizex forums.Chibi Mystic Gohan wrote: Obviously nobody can say 100% objectively that somebody's acting sucks, but if someone is seriously going to claim that the guy who played Tullece in the "Big Green" dub was acting well ("everyoneinmyracecanbecomeagiantgorilla!"), I'm entitled to think they're crazy. And about that "fanbase outside the Daizex forums," you can find those wonderful people at places such as the DB Wikia. Those people are nuts.
P.S. The people at DB Wikia aren't nuts, they just don't know how to run a good site.

Very disappointed in the voice of Recoome. It's still DERPADERP.
The Recoome stuff is some of my favorite material, too. Sabat ruins it.

Although Freeza, Chris really pulled him off in this episode. Especially, when he yelled!

Re: "DragonBall Z Kai" TV Broadcast Talkback
I know I'm going to get flamed for this, but I think that Sabat's Recoome has gotten much better since Z sure it's not the best voice Sabat has done, but still it's not the worst English Anime voice I've heard that "honor" goes to Sarah Natochenny's Ash from the current Pokemon dub. There were some scenes where he sounded Derpdaderp in Kai, but it wasn't as earbleeding as it was in Z, and besides have we forgotten Sabat's Recoome from Z if so here's a reference in fact it's the same fight as tonight's Kai episode was. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jpIUSaS0bb4

Re: "DragonBall Z Kai" TV Broadcast Talkback
I thought it was toned down quite a bit, with more "muscular meat-head" tossed in. I definitely still hated how he constantly laughs like "huhuhuhaheheheheheeeehhheeh!" after he says anything though... If they had gotten rid of that, I would have no real complaints, but as it is, it sometimes gets annoying...penguintruth wrote:Very disappointed in the voice of Recoome. It's still DERPADERP.

Also, yay, next episode covers some FUNimation Z season three content! Cannot wait to hear that material finally getting a competent dub!
Wow... that is a vast difference!DB_Fan1991 wrote:I know I'm going to get flamed for this, but I think that Sabat's Recoome has gotten much better since Z sure it's not the best voice Sabat has done, but still it's not the worst English Anime voice I've heard that "honor" goes to Sarah Natochenny's Ash from the current Pokemon dub. But also, offtopic, why the hell does everyone and their mothers on YouTube upload clips of fucking Dragon Ball and the Nathan Johnson scored seasons one and two of Z with poorly placed, incorrectly used, and poorly mixed Faulconer music?

A punch in the face is less painful than a kick in the crotch, but it's still painful.
Sabat's Recoome is still fucking terrible and embarrassing. Next to Schemmel's Kai, it's the worst voice in the whole dub.

Re: "DragonBall Z Kai" TV Broadcast Talkback
I'll admit that Recoome is not my favorite voice in the dub at all, same with Kaio. Honestly with Recoome I had hoped Sabat would have used his voice for Armstrong on him as for Kaio I wish that they would have used Doc Morgan for him since many say that the narrator for all 3 series could possibly be Kaio. Yes even as a dub fan I'll admit when certain voices are bad for the most part that is. I should make a Youtube video with Sabat's Armstrong on Recoome and see how that works out.penguintruth wrote:A punch in the face is less painful than a kick in the crotch, but it's still painful.

Recoome seems to have the same voice, just performed differently. Which is good enough.

Well, I think Burter is fine and so is Ginyu, for the most part. There's nothing really wrong with either of their voices, though I could have gone with Troy Baker or someone more along the lines of Richard Newman.batistabus wrote:The more the Ginyu Force members speak, the less I like all of them.

Re: "DragonBall Z Kai" TV Broadcast Talkback
My cousin absolutely loves the Ginyu Force. He said they're like "stupid power rangers that dances a lot." His words. But most importantly he loves Reccome's voice. I enjoyed watching my cousin laugh at his lines even those that weren't meant to be funny. I don't get why people here dislike Sabat's Reccome so much. If the kids like it I have no problem with the voice acting at all.
Also my cousin found out from friend that Vegeta "marries" Bulma. His mind is completely blown since Vegeta is his favorite super villain now. He keeps asking me questions like "How do they get together? Do they get married on Namek?" and "Did they meet on a website?"
I said yes, they met through online dating website.

Re: "DragonBall Z Kai" TV Broadcast Talkback
Some of Sabat's "labored screams" were coming through in this episode, which is disappointing since he seemed to come so far in that category. It was most noticeable when Vegeta unleashed that huge Ki blast after throwing Reecome in the mountain. Sabat make Vegeta sound like he's in pain, it's just odd to me. Seems that's one thing Sean has the edge on, pure lung power behind his screams.
Freeza continues to sound amazing, so many textures and variations to his laughs, let alone his voice. Props should also go to Sean, as his Nail is a very good stoic warrior voice perfectly suited to the character. It's so completely different from his voice for Son Goku that I'm indeed impressed, I can barley recognize him. I certainly can't say the same for many of Sabat's character voices.
